1. Several reviews have mentioned space battles. Does this mean Serenity has been equipped with guns?

2. Does Inara have any of her 'job' scenes?

Nope Serenity does not have any guns...just a great pilot. There will be a awesome space fight scene shwon, but the effects for what i saw were not in place yet.

The movie does show Inara at work, but not nearly enough.

Grand. That's the way it should be. Using smarts instead of guns, which basically means running, but everybody with half a working brain knows that's the smart thing to do.

Sincerly can't wait till the Big Damn Movie's released.

If discretion is the better part of valor. . .is cowardice the better part of discretion?

I wonder if the screening in London next week(!) will be the same cut or a slightly different one? what do you think - could more editing have been done since the last screnings and maybe some more SFX?

It would be cool to make comparisons

I`m prepared for some of the shocks & can`t wait for the `River Dance` (no Michael Flatley)

Yes. Because if the better part of valor, that is discretion, has gone wrong, and you have lethal danger coming your way with a determined, killing look on it's face, you take the better part of discretion, which is cowardice and RUN!

In the end cowardice is the better. After all, it is better to live another day running, than just being dead in the gutter. It might not be cool, but you're still flying.

When Serenity is on the run though, it will be cool. The Big Damn Heroes have a great pilot, and a GREAT ship!

Sincerly can't wait till the Big Damn Movie's released.

guys, since the thread's already spoiler-full,
I might as well add my spoiler question for those who have seen the movie: What can we expect from the Operative (Like, who is he going to fight with, we know he's after River, but, I mean, he must get past at least Simon and probably Mal, so, how's that gonna go?) And one more question: River's fight-scenes, how do they work? I've heard many people who've seen the movie say they're incredibly well performed and kind off matrix-style. Is this true? Can we expect matrix-like scenes?

Thanks!

The Operative....he is a mild-mannered well spoken gentleman. He is a highly trained killer and he is sent to get River. He has a couple fight scenes with Mal including a pretty hairy one at the end.

Rivers fight scene. it is simply awesome. I dont know how they did it, but it looks really real. I think it is better than any fight scene i can remember. the easiest way for me to discribe it to you is this way. remember in Star Wars Episode 1, when Obi-one fought Darth Maul?...to me that was simply awesome...it is like that. Does that make sense?

Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan was on of the better fight scenes lately, and a very lonely redeeming aspect of Star Wars - Episode 1. So if Rivers fight scene pars or is better than that, that would be great.

The Operative also sounds like one of the better Big Bads on the Big Screen lately.

Now, back to Inara. Any 'job'-scenes? Hmmm?

Sincerly can't wait till the Big Damn Movie's released.

Oooh...the implication in the comparison to the Darth Maul fight would be that there's a singular OPPONENT for River. Doesn't sound like it's the Operative. Are we talking about a counterpoint to River, here?

Ok, while we're asking questions :)

Joss is on record as being INTENTIONALLY vague about FTL and Serenity. Is the issue of one solar system vs. galaxy resolved in the movie? I mean, surely they make it at least clearer, right?

She cleaned out the bar and was on her way to whoop up on the Captain. He was trying to get his gun out of a locker that all patrons store them weapons in when they enter. He was having trouble getting it open as she was kicking ass. Once she finished with them she made her way to the Captain, just as she got to him and he was getting his gun ready, Simon came in and spoke a De-activation word and she shut down....very intense. I could watch that whole scene 10 times in a row.

Meltingman, thank you for answering our questions so far.
I've got another question for you (if that's ok):
I've read in an interview with Joss Whedon about Serenity that there will be a hoovercraft chase at some point in the movie. Ís it any good?
And who is in the hoovercraft and why?

Many, many thanks!

Yep there is a new mule for Serenity. The quad-runner is gone and a new cool hovercraft is in place. It is stored above the cargo bay. There is a town that the crew have a bank heist at. While they are there, River senses they are arriving (this is the clip you have seen were River say's "Reavers") Anyhoot, when the Reavers hit they have to make a fast get away. So Mal,Zoe,River and Jayne jump aboard and try to flee. But the Reavers have this cool two-Reaver ship and chase them. It was really intense. Unfortunaetly all the effects were un-finished. But it was still cool.

that's very cool, I thought it was a shame when they blew up the mule in Warstories, but if they now have a hovercraft instead that's awesome!! :-)
I've watched that clip from the comiccon a thousand times now, it still gives me a boost when I feel down. Can you say what happens with Serenity at the end of the clip (You know, when Serenity is fleeing from the Reavership and the reavership fires some kind of beam).
Again, thanks for taking the time to answer, I'm getting more and more excited about this movie...:-)

That was a really cool part of the movie. That is towards the end (or close to it) when our gang is trying to flee the Reaver home world and the whole Reaver fleet is chasing them. The problem is that as they are high-tailing it out of there, the Allaince fleet is heading towards the Reaver planet going after Serenity. Wash is a stud here...shows us what Serenity can do in the hands of a capable pilot.

This is a pure spoiler thread for people who want to know about the movie. Ask away...I'll tell ya.

You know, i'm not likin some of this.

The concept of a fancy hover to replace the mule bothers me on two fronts...
#1 - it's so COMPLETELY out of character for the story.
#2 - they didn't do too good a job on the one in HoG, honestly.

But #1 reallllllly bothers me.
What's next, transporters ?
:::rolls eyes:::

I sincerely, sincerely hope this doesn't get the same BS nitpick that other Joss productions have (thus destroying them in the name of a quick buck) but after seeing the release date pushback in order to make SURE nothing actually dares *compete* with precious little golden boy prince George Lucas's latest bowel movement on the movie world (cause that's the TRUTH of all those reschedules) so they don't *offend* him and lose out on their cut of the Empire(pun intended)....

And the composer mess sure doesn't inspire a lot of confidence either.

I'd like to hope for the best, but in all honesty that pushback killed off some of the fan base this movie would have NEEDED to make the profit the studio was hoping for, not rabid maniacs like us, but lukewarm fans they could have snared into the franchise who threw up their hands in disgust and moved on.

So while i'll keep hoping (at least till they throw it back in the can and never release it...) I am somewhat concerned.

Wow, you're a really positive *irony intended* person.

From a time/story perspective the hovercraft makes sense. The mule was destroyed, and they needed some new land transport. Probably got a nice amount of money from some job, and UPGRADED. They got a hovercraft which is quicker (Ok, I don't have proof of that, but it would seem logical ) and has more space for goods. And as for the hovercraft in HoG, that thing was put together in the span of 8 days or some amount of time that doesn't really give you time to come up with a Big Damn Hovercraft. The BDM, though, will have a Big Damn Hovercraft.

Secondly I just want to adress the "out of character for the story" problem of yours. It's what it is. It's your problem. For me it is not a problem, because of my POV on the story that is Firefly/Serenity. For the crew to earn more money, they need complicated jobs, jobs that need speedy entries and exits. Thus it makes sense to upgrade to a speedier land vehicle. Gorram, as far as I see it, the hovercraft could be of the Firefly brand, and I want to have things of the Firefly brand.

Finally, we have to realize one thing. Serenity is a movie. People will go see movies. Just as long as they know it's there and they can go see it they will. What can make Serenity a sucsess, make it stand out from the ordinary decently visited, yet not sucsessful, movies that there are loads of in these times, is the Browncoats. We have made a difference before and we will make a difference again.

Do you wanna be a Big Damn Hero or what?

Sincerly can't wait till the Big Damn Movie's released.

That's us, you and me, where I stand ain't ever been in doubt.

Thing is, I have concerns, I have concerns I feel are legit, given the history involved, and if it's at all possible to address them NOW as fans instead of after a shafting, it might be a good idea.

Even if it don't work, it's something to do, and worth a try - cause some of us were all over the advertisers and the network when they started mulling cancellation, while others were believing that cancellation would never happen due to the quality of the show.
(To give em credit, it STILL doesn't make sense..)

So I have concerns, is not now the time to act on them ?

Ok, a general question (or 5)...

Is there anything we're going to really freak out about in general? There was talk, after all the publicity photos without Book and Inara, that they might have much smaller parts (ie. be 'written out' of most of the movie)

Is there anything like that? Any drastic personality changes that don't make sense?

Basically, is it still the same little 'verse we've come to know and love, or are there any significant changes we should be prepared for?

Good Morning,

When i saw the movie it was so cool seeing the BDH on screen and simply seeing more Firefly. It's hard to believe, but I have seen the regular shows so many times I dont really watch them anymore. So seeing something I havent seen before was so cool. Joss was in the audience with us, as well as a whole group of execs in a taped off section of the theatre. Will there be any major things that will dissapoint you? Yes there will. Will you just love other parts?...yes you will. Overall it is a great ride and will makie money for the studio. Will it make enough to justify another movie...i think so.

I was absolutely pissed when the back story for Book wasnt explained before he died. I didnt think Ron Glass did that great of a job acting the scene, but that is a different discussion. When Wash died, fans just about stormed Joss. It happened so fast and being as Wash is one of my favorite characters, I'm dissapointed he is gone.

I dont like movies where things will happen and you say to yourself, oh come on that can't happen. There are a handful of those here. I didnt love that. Actually i was so worried about those "Oh come on" scenes that I made sure I was asked to stay after the movie to be one of 20 people who were recorded and shared how they felt about the movie. I wanted to voice them then so that maybe they can be changed before the movie is released. So during the discussion i was pretty vocal. To quote myself(can you do that?) I said regarding the relative realism of a movie "if Mal gets a three foot sword shoved all the way through his stomach, he dies!!" well he didnt and still fought for another five minutes and beats the Operative.

There is a scene when Serenity chrashes and one arm is completly torn off (then Wash dies)and later in the movie Serenity takes and heads on her merry way? HUH??? I had to bring that up to them. Those are the kinds of things. At the end of the discussion i turned to all the executives (I was in the first row and they were in the back right hand corner) and said "Hey guys we need more Firefly, just change a few things and this movie can be great" It was odd how silent the place was...lol

But if they dont change anything, you will still love tons about this. Very funny, River simply kicks ass, you will love when Simon breaks River out of the Alliance facility, The Operative, the Reaver story.

But you wont like Wash and Book dying, the "oh come on" scenes if they stay, Simon punching Mal in the face and he taking it, Jayne yelling at Mal "Look at me when I talking to you" and him not shoving him out an airlock. The out of character heros were familiar with. Yeah that suprised me too. And how somehow those things add up to it not feeling like our little show.

But am I worried about how the movie being pushed back might affect the over-all sales, not really. Other than us Browncoats, who really even knows this movie is being made? Until the first teaser is released than the casual movie-goer will know of its existence. I know why it is called Serenity, but I think another name would be better for the non-Firefly fans. But it wont be changed.

oh, and the key word spoken to River to stop her from stomping Mal's ass (unless he shot her, and he would have) was in Chinese. Couldnt understand it. Man that was a cool scene.

OK any other questions let me know.

Inara's screen time seemed less than the others. She did help out tremendously when the crew went to the world were Inara was. the Operative cornered them there and she was the reason they escaped.

Kaylee (other than looking hot) was a part of everything, but she helped in smaller round about ways.

The story is truly amazing. It explains who everybody is, and visits all kinds of places and meets all kinds of people. There are two main characters that are presented. The Operative of course is one. But the others is the lead elf guy from that Tim Allen movie "The Santa Clause". He plays this guys who recieves all digital information feeds (illegally) and can send them to all far reaches of the galaxy as well. the crew need him to tranmit proof that the Reavers are real. it is a cool story. Tons of action and very funny. Just wish the crew acted true to how they play themselves in the TV show. When Jayne yelled at Mal and he didnt really do anything about it....well I was dissapointed. i like when the Captain gets up in Jaynes face and reminds him of who's boat this is...That Mal is gone.
