Picked this up on the OB. Singer-songwriter P. J. Shapiro of Medford, Mass. gave a performance last week including a cover of the Firefly theme song.

It's ok. But it seems to lack Energy to me.

It really is too cool. Thanks Slinger! Did you get good audience reactions, or were they like ... huh? Is this a regular part of your show, or was it a one time thing?

Anyways, I'm a computer genius when it comes to work software and things ya actually need to make a business run -- As for entertainment software ... not so much.
I guess I need to burn it to a disk to actually keep it. May I have your permission to burn it to a disk please?

Shiny!

Great to see a fan doing a cover of the Ballad of Serenity. Hopefully you have inspired some people that heard you play into checking out the DVD set and the BDM.

Great work! Thanks StringSlinger.

It started off as a one-time thing, but once I played it at a show people kept asking to hear it again, so now I play it fairly regularly. The audience reactions have been good from the start. Even non-Browncoats like the song.

I know of at least a few people who have watched the DVDs as a result of hearing Ballad of Serenity at a show, because they have spoken to me about it afterwards. Hopefully there are more out there...

I play guitar (for pleasure). Lately I've become quite fond of simplified tunes... voice and acoustic guitar. If the song is strong, it shines in such a bare setting. Serenity is a strong song. I thought your cover was perfect. Thank you for sharing!

And for the tab, too... Serenity is on my long list of songs to learn. Maybe its time I started.

I take the point but I think the Ballad appeals to each of us in different ways.

a possible lack of energy doesn't mean lack of feeling, yes? He's just displaying it in a way that suits him, doesn't have to work for everyone.

Personally, I agree with Thundar, I like it a bit more rousing but there is perhaps more emotional range in Slinger's version.

Stay shiny...

If you liked that, you should really check out the PJ Shapiro CD, I Know What You're Made Of. You can order it from CDBaby.

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/pjs2

I have a copy and it is one of the best CD's in my collection. It gets played over and over. Support your fellow browncoats, ya know?
