Hi All,

just posted an image of myself in the bluesun room in costume and would like to know what people think.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=3142

although this isn`t an `exact` Captain `Mal` costume, it`s my Captain `Zol. Harbatkin` costume.

A bit of background and things that I find wrong (apart from the guy wearing it ).

I normally wear glasses & my left eye is much worse than the right, so that`s the reason for the leather eye patch.

The coat/jacket is 3/4 length and maybe a little short - it still needs the button holes sewing up with brown thread. and the seams of the cuffs are on the front and not the rear (this was done for me by someone)

The belt is maybe just a little small on the width but has the double hole buckle & belt holes

The trousers are Equestrian Jodhpurs which really are `Tight Pants` and very comfortable! and have dark brown stripes added down the outside legs & buttons for braces.

The braces are standard british army issue (from WW2 I believe) and work a treat, although I have got ones that look like those used complete with the re-enforced shoulders & back strap (after a bit of modification) but they aren`t elasticated and therefore loose.

The boots are black, the brown leather ones I have just didn`t look right (not long enough) and I also haven`t decided whether to keep the spurs on the boots either.

So, if you can have a look at the image and let me know honestly without being insulting, I would like to know what you think,

many thanks,

Darin (Zol.)

p.s. forgot to add that the weapon in the holster is a Colt Navy 1851 revolver (although you can`t see it) - but SloopyJon has provided me with a suitale replica for Mal`s firearm which looks the part.

MALICIOUS

Looks good except for the fastenings on the coat! Now, go to some bar, get into a fight and dirty up those pants and boots and you'll be good to go!

Mal-licious

If you're going for the exact copy of Mal, the buckles aren't right, but if you're going for a customized browncoat, it's all good as far as I'm concerned. Looks good, though either the gunbelt needs to be higher up or thicker.

This isn`t going to be an exact copy, that`s the reason I say it`s not a `Mal` costume. And not to mention the spurs

I didn`t really think the clasps on the original were that practical so went for quick release clips, which were readily available & can be closed easily up to keep me warmer.

The belt does need to go up slightly, got to take into account the weight of the gun (which drags it down using the colt) the `Mal's` firearm I have in resin doesn`t weigh 1/2 as much.

Thanks for the comments so far

Darin (Zol.)

p.s. money can be an issue, so things do have to be practical (within reason) & easily available in the UK
