I`ve finally managed to pick up a Region 2 DVD copy of Firefly after I`ve had the Region 1 DVD`s and must say the display quality appears quite different - My Sony TV handles PAL & NTSC & my DVD player is multiregion & is also PAL & NTSC compatible.

On observation, of the 1st episode, everything appears to be that much more detailed, the helmets when the crew are visiting the derelect have more texture & the lock that they melt open has the word `press` on the top section - which on the Region 1 DVD was very difficult to see.

Now I don`t know if it`s just my setup, and I do realise that PAL & NTSC differ in 2 respects (both scan lines & frequency) but does anybody else have 2 copies (Region 1 & 2) & would care to note their comparison too.

This is just an observation & I would be interested in other peoples findings.

Cheers.

Yes R2 is way way better for me but I wasn't sure if that is a consequence of the way my "multiregion" player does the decode or a fundamental difference between the versions. There's meant to be one place in I think Shindig where you can see someone's hand pushing or pulling the mule just after Wash talks to Zoe, but I can't see that on either version. My R1 has a black panel at the bottom.

It's made me a bit wary of getting R1 stuff but I guess there's no option if I want to see Wonderfalls or Carnivale (I'm on ntl not Sky and we don't seem to get FX yet).

Wait, what? Wonderfalls, Carnivale? Huh?

I vaugely remember reading a script for an unaired episode called Carnivale, but how would buying the R1 DVDs allow you to see it?

Don't mind my ignorance, I'm new.

"Wonderfalls" and "Carnivàle" are two US shows that are currently only available in Region 1 DVD sets (although Amazon.co.uk says that "Carnivàle" will be available in Region 2 on March 7th).

As has been said, PAL is farsuperior to NTSC (often refered to as Never The Same Color) but that's why you've all rushed ahead to Hi-Def and we're still stuck with 625 lines.

Also the conversion process, whether on the TV or DVD player, will not produce as good a picture as that provided by an NTSC player onto an NTSC set.
