I really liked this episode. The flashbacks were great and not as confusing as some shows make them.

I really liked seeing more about Simon an River's relationship. He seems to really care about her and she cares a lot about him. One of my favorite scenes was when she said he had given up everything for her and he said maybe everything I have is right here.

This ep. also gave some depth to Book's character, who, up until now, was rather boring in my opinion.

I loved Jayne's paranoia! It was funny when he threw all of the stuff he had stolen back on Simon's bed.

Mal and Zoe had some good lines too. When Simon asked why the Captain came back for him and Mal replied, you're part of my crew.

All in all this is one of the best episodes so far. It's funny, each week I say that was my favorite episodes and then next time around it gets even better.

Jayne: Time for some thrilling heroics.

Wash: Every man there go back inside or we will blow a new crater in this little moon.

I personally liked what Jayne "read" from Simon's diary. Tee hee.

And is it just me or does Kaylee get annoyed with Simon easily? The whole temper tantrum about the "fancy" plate he called cheap kinda irked me. Just a little.

But i thought it was neat to see Simon & River's background. How Simon's father pretty much disowned him for trying to help River. But i wonder...Who does River consider "Daddy"?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the trash-talk about Serenity that pissed Kaylee off? I mean, sure, she looked disappointed after he didn't like the plate she wanted to get him, but she kept being friendly until he started acting like he was too good for Serenity.

Yup. And Kaylee's a better girl than me, cause I'd have slugged him. Of course everyone seemed a might tetchier than usual. I appreciate Mal's more than occasional insensitivity and holier than thou attitude because it makes him a more well rounded character, but personally the Cap's starting to get on my nerves.

River is the hardest character. I want to like her, mostly because Simon does, and I think Summer Glau is doing a hell of a job, but I find myself wincing everytime she comes onscreen. Like, what "proof" of her brilliance am I going to have to sit through now? Stick to the psychic stuff, kid, its way cooler. And try to dance more often.

It was nice to see a non-crazy child River, but I think it would endear me even more to her character if we could see a non-crazy River as played by SG.

That's right. That was it. Sorry i've had a looong week. I understand getting annoyed when he insulted her baby...

Did anyone else catch the possibility that she [Kaylee] was thinking of buying the plate for someone else? She never did admit she was wanting it for Simon. Just a thought. Also, as long as we're looking at subtle stuff, it seemed to me that Simon and River's parents were more than 'uncaring parents'. They seemed, from their response to Simon's worries, to know what was going on with River, or at least knew that trying to find out was going to stir up lots of trouble. Anyone else get the feeling they were in on it?

I'm actually the opposite way. The psychic stuff seems so trite to me--I actually winced at that "Two by two, hands of blue" rhyme. I was like, Ooh, cryptic psychic messages. I've only seen this 5,000,000 times. In the past week.

But I like the genius parts. They just seem so geniune--like she's actually trying to be normal, but she's been out of normal society so long that all she has are her weird habits from the Academy.

ILOVEJAYNE

This was a pretty cool episode. I didn't like Simon much to start with. He's always struck me as boring and yes, pompous. I'd never hang around anyone like him. But I gotta say, after this ep, I respect the heck out of him. Bad enough to give up a good livelihood, but to have to choose between your parents and your sister... Rough. That took some serious, uhm, invites.

Okay, the part I didn't like: when Simon tells River "Everthing I need is right here." I'll probably be in the minority, but... Maybe it's because my brother and I are constantly at each other's throats, or maybe it's because I've NEVER seen siblings that didn't bicker...whatever. DON'T HURT ME! (Runs to River's hiding place)

And I loved the rescue scene. Serenity descending, the hatch opens, there's Jayne with the gun, the laser from the sight visible against the smoke from the torches, Mal and Zoe charging in... It looked awesome. (And knowing Jayne had ransacked their rooms. Shiny! )

If I'm not making sense, forgive me. It's late.
