consider all the various incarnations of the credited cast for our "big three" shows. buffy and angel went through a number of cast changes. for example, on angel, i can count 8 (though i certainly may have missed one set up).

angel, doyle, cordelia
angel, cordelia, wes
angel, cordelia, wes, gunn
angel, cordelia, wes, gunn, fred
angel, cordelia, wes, gunn, fred, connor
angel, wes, gunn, fred, lorne
angel, wes, gunn, fred/illyria, lorne, spike
angel, wes, gunn, fred/illyria, lorne, spike, harmony

of couse, our beloved firefly was not around long enough to make any cast changes and i am less familiar with buffy (so i cannot make this list). my question to everyone is which grouping offered up the best cast in terms of episode quality, chemistry, "funness" to watch and/or acting ability? which one represented the absolute casting zenith?

the real question, of course, is who would win a battle royale style tournament between all these cast setups. hahahaha! just kidding.

My vote would be for the last Angel cast: with Lorn, Illyria, Spike, and Harmony, comedy is inevitable.

My personal favourite Buffy cast is from just before Tara died. If for no other reason than Amber Benson's incredible hotness.

Though I am fond of the "WTF?!?" style of the "Superstar" episode-specific opening, 'cause it's all about Jonathan (and those other guys that nobody cares about). You know a spell is powerful if it f&¢#s up the opening sequence.

I'm going with Season 2/3 old school BUFFY: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, and Angel

Don't forget Wesley and Faith in season 3. The comparison between Wesley on Buffy season 3 and Wes at the end of Angel is just mind boggling. I did not even know it was him! I started watching Buffy reruns starting with season 4 and then caught onto the prime time show during season 6. I didn't watch Angel at all until their season 4 and Wes, by then, was a changed man. CONSIDERABLY different from Wesley Wyndham-Price at the end of Buffy season 3.

he was one of the most interesting characters to watch over the course of angel. he was lovable as the nerdy, clumsy doofus when he first hooks up with angel investigations (spilling the coffee beans, getting his axe stuck in the wall). later, he morphs into a complete bada--. shotguns, double pistols, taking matters into his own hands (stabbing gunn, taking connor, shooting his "father"). i loved it. this change is one of the main reasons why he is my favorite character. he really grew and changed.

Absolutely! To me Wes' arc is the most interesting in all Whedondom. The only reason why I didn't mention them was that they weren't regulars. Faith and Wes are big parts of Season 3. I can imagine what a shock it must have to see ANGEL Season 3 and later Wes compared to his first appearances on BUFFY.

Man, I can't wait 'till September!
