LIVIDLIQUID

I live in Seattle. My girlfriend is in town for a week and we decided to head on up to Vancouver Canada as I've never been there. Great night. Had a nice dinner, went gambling, won a bunch of money, and to top it all off, at the last pub we went to, the lady leans in and says to me, "The guy behind me looks a lot like that dude from Firefly." I look up and panic. "It's him!" I scream in a whisper. He's sitting opposite a similar-looking guy chatting idly. "What do I do? What do I do?" I'm horrible at talking to celebrities. I realize they're just people like us, but if I can get him to talk to me I know it's a conversation I'll remember forever and I can't make an ass of myself or that's how I'll always remember it.
"Don't do anything!" The girl screams, to which I reply, "I have to talk to him. I have to talk to him. I can't ask for his autograph or anything! He's all... busy and doesn't want to be bothered! What do I do?!"

So anyway, this goes on for a bit. Monica has the idea to buy their next round for them. If they want to come over and chat, awesome. If not, I get to say I bought Nathan Fucking Fillion a drink. I bought The Captain, Caleb, and that guy from Two Guys and a Girl a drink! Right about this time I was thanking my lucky stars I wasn't wearing my coat. Which, as you may have guessed, is strikingly similar to the famed brown coat of our beloved captain. That would have been mighty embarassing.

So the drinks come. From accross the room, Nathan and his buddy raise their glasses and thank us. And that's it, I figure. They don't want to be bothered. I'm really happy I didn't walk up and try to bug him. About twenty minutes later, however, they stand up to leave and make a stop at our table.

"I'm not Jason Bateman" He says. I laugh.
"Oh, I know who you are." And after this, I'm a little speechless. He sticks his hand out.
"Nathan." He says. Momentarily, I consider saying "I know what your name is, jackass." but figure he wouldn't immediately pick up the reference to Jaynestown.
"Monica." The girlfriend says, and shakes his hand.
"Joe." I say. More of the same. "It's an honor."

So the rest of the conversation is a bit of a blur as I was trying not to drool all over myself at how dignified, charming, and man-pretty the guy is. Looks like a real badass, too, if he needed to be, but we've all seen that. Turns out the gentleman he was with was his brother who lives in Vancouver. He asked me if I was a fan and had the DVD set and all that. I can't even remember what I said. Turns out Nathan was in town either auditioning or filming, can't remember, a part in an upcoming Zombie movie in which he'll play a police chief.

All in all, a hell of a nice guy. And a manly drinker. I only wish I had more to say.

Of all the gorram luck....well done! I don't do celebrity stalk...err,I mean talk very well either. I feel so goofy, cause I know so much about their work, but next to nothing about THEM personally. I don't want to come off as some creep/ obsessed fan or some such.

I think you handled it really well:
I'm sure they appreciated being able to have their brotherly time undisturbed,
and I'm sure they appreciated the drink too!

You have represented Browncoats everywhere well,
we thank you!

One of them ordered Bacardi. Not sure what the other had. I wonder if the little lady still has the receipt...

I have to say being from Seattle as well...I'm jealous. Sounds pretty cool though.
I often forget that there is a film industry just north of the border even though a great deal of shows and movies are produced up there.

LL, if you want to meet Jewel, she'll be in Vancouver next weekend for a friend's performance at a club called Oasis. I believe the show is on April 3rd, and she has invited everyone from the Vancouver meetup group to come see it. See her website for more details!

(I thought of flying into Vancouver just for the event, but turns out it would cost me about a grand, and I don't have that kind of coin right now. )

That is such a great story and you handled it so well. You let him come to your table when they were ready and you bought him a drink. Nice touch.

I worked in an industry where there are a ton of celebrities and they like being treated like regular people.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Shiny story LividLiquid, thanks for sharing it w/us.

Nathan is a great guy, and it is so like him to lead off w/ a line like "I'm not Jason Bateman". Gotta love our Captain.

I had heard from a couple of people that Nathan was in Vancouver this week, but I did not know he was filming anything. "Slither"? Checked out IMDB on it and it looks interesting. I am assuming this will be a direct to DVD release or shown on Sci Fi....anyone know? I would like to check it out when it comes out.

Anyway, congrats on getting to meet Nathan. Fast thinking w/ the whole buying him a drink thing. I will have to remember that if I ever run into one of the BDHs again.

This is my favorite part of your story. You're right he may not have picked up on the reference. This had me fall to the floor laughing out loud when I read it.

I love the way the show just inserts itself into everyday events. Extremely quotable.

Well done, you represented us proud.

Felt like your brain went missing huh?

I live in LA and have had many opportunities and it always feels the same. Nathan is a great guy.

Keep Flyin'
