I am starting to believe that I am the only one....Please let me know I am not! I am planning another Shindig to be held at Inconjunction, July 4th weekend in Indianapolis. Last year the turn out was huge, including Jason Carter, but there was only one other true Browncoat besides myself. I would love to see any/all Midwest Browncoats make it this year! I also would be interested in thowing one at the Star Wars Celebration III later this month....let me know who will be in town and we can pull it together.

You're certainly not the only one. There's quite a large mailing list for Ohio Browncoats ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/firefly-ohio/).

I'm technically an Indiana Browncoat now, I suppose, as I'm in Bloomington at IU. No clue where I'll be on the 4th though, alas. But I'm sure you'll find some by poking around!

I am also in Indianapolis, and I'm amazed that someone else in this city has the good taste to be a Browncoat!

Ohio? Indiana? I'd hardly call that "Midwest." I'm a North Dakota native myself (though I'm currently in Montana for college). When it comes to labelling an area "Midwest," we're fairly elitist.
There's a definite lack of willing Firefly converts up here in the frigid and scorching north. Although the shows jargon sounds disturbingly familiar...

Sorry, but Noth Dakota is in the Great Plains. I really don't know why it would be included in the area called the Midwest. This is the first time I've ever heard of a state west of Iowa called Midwestern. I was taught in school (in Indiana, admitedly) that:
Just like there were Northern and Southern states, in 1800 there were Eastern (east coast) and Western states (and territories), with the US territory stopping at the Great River (the Mississippi). Pennsylvania and Carolina (pre Civil War, remember) were East, while Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky and Michigan were west. Then came the Louisiana Purchase. Suddenly, the area west of the Great River was US territory, and what was West was now in the middle. So the former West became the Middle-West, or Midwest, and the name stuck.
As a further note, use Google to see where the Midwest Museum of Art is located.
I'm not saying that North Dakota isn't in the midwest - I found several newspaper articles on-line that mention it as Midwestern. I'm just sayin' that I'd never before heard of it being so.

Edited a day later to add: VIRGINIA! VIRGINIA! VIRGINIA was the state that split in the Civil War era, not the Carolinas. Major brain fart there. Everyone, as you were.

Not sure, but I think most of the Chicagoland Browncoats will be out in LA on Sept. 30th. Tentatively, that's where the shindig of all shindigs is supposed to be.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I'll second that. The Midwest is the West that was. In my travels in & reading about the area, I learned that the Midwest was the area opened to overseas trade by the Erie Canal, to whit: the upper Great Lakes (ie above Niagara Falls), and the Ohio & northern Mississippi (ie north of the Missouri) River valleys, and the states bordering thereupon. The Dakotas are in the Great Plains, & Montana's in the mountains (thought the name gave it away).

Oh yah? Where? Speaking as someone already in LA, who expects to be here still @the end of September, I really would like to know.

Hey LuvRhino - I'm about three hours north of Indy. I'm not much of one for cons, but I'd come down for an afternoon shindig, or maybe for the SW3 premiere. Post whatever plans come up, I'll try to make it.

TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

JOIN
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/firefly-ohio

if you are even remotely close to Ohio! We get together once a month (roughly) to have little shindigs, I like to simply call 'digs, where we eat, watch episodes, play BWAH!, be merry, exchange Firefly related stories, never sew flesh into clothing, and I give out swag. :)

You do not have to live in, be from, or even necessarily like (but it helps!), Ohio, and all Browncoats are invited to join our list. We even had a shindig for TheRealMe when he was in town and he came from Colorado! So you don't have to be local, but you do have to be crazy...no wait, only Wiccy and I have to be crazy, but you can be if you want!

I'm not sure. Someone familiar with organizing fan get togethers is putting something together. I'm sure there'll be lots of discussion regarding details on the OB in the coming months.
