There's a thread about the Boston screening, with the writer saying, "Serenity: The Next Generation." That 'bout sums up my feelings. Of course, writing, acting, F/X, all will be so much better, more sophisticated, compelling....just downright better! And before, y'all come down on me for critizing Trek, I have been a Star Trek fan since TOS, up through Enterprise. If anything, DS9 is the closest thing to the TV/movie franchise. Believe me, Firefly/Serenity is the better show.

Everyone dies alone.

The only thing I will say, is this, if people are expecting Startrek, they are in for a shock, best not to advertise it as the next "Startrek" - "Starwars" maybe or even tell people to checkout the crew of `The Betty` in "Alien Resurection" - much more closer to the feeling of a group of lawless people who live on a spaceraft.

And I have grown up with *ALL* the Startreks (although the original was on repeats by the time I was watching)

Great little show, cancelled by the network, revived by nothing more or less than the genuine love of the fans.

Yep, this is the Star Trek of the 21st century. Complete with a very small but very vocal minority of fans intent on givin' the rest of us a bad name.

I wasn't saying that the crew was similar, which they are not (duh), but the history of the cancellations, fanbase and loyalty of same, genius of a creator, TV shows made into movies, just so many similarities make me believe that Serenity will be a long-running series, just like Trek, even if only on the big screen. I just hope there are no "typecasting" issues!

I hope you made sure thatthe reviewer didn`t go away with a negative review is all, the comparison about the show`s background is valid but as soon as you mention Startrek, people expect to see something else - regardless of what you say, some will just switch off at that point in a conversation.

I shouldn`t worry about any problems with typecasting, most of the crew/actors have done otherthings, just look at Alan for instance, the only one really who is typecast is the ship `Serenity` but even that has appeared in Battlestar Galctica

p.s. Check your title of this discussion - maybe it should be changed?
