I like many many more of you here on this board and across other sites still know that Firefly is the single greatest tv show that we have had the privalage of watching. Firefly deserves to be put back on our screens where it belongs and not just a re-run but a new season. So is there anything more we can do to push this into the front of tv companys minds. If fox dont want to do it surely there is another company out there who would be willing to take this on. Maybe a co-ordinated letter/e-mail campaign to the tv companys. If some of the fan sites out there on the web got together we could organise something like that. Any other ideas anyone?

I say we send Blue gloves to Universal. I remember reading an article about how Jericho was risen from the dead by the fans. They sent thousands of peanuts to the network (apparently there was an episode involving peanuts).

Anywho, I'm for doing something similar. that would definitely send a message.

So if someone found a place where people could by blue gloves or something else from Firefly to Fox to inundate them with this item then it is possible they will revive Firefly? What if the cast doesn't want to do it anymore? If a plausible game plan can be thunk up I would be glad to participate in it.

You of course bring up a good point, the cast may not be interested any longer.
still...I think it is a good idea and from what I have heard of the cast they would be honored by the act so I say lets go for it.
and mechanics gloves and some medical gloves come in blue...just give me the word.

I think medical gloves, like the Blue Hands guys.
I did some research on the net and found blue gloves for $4.99 per 100, which comes out to about a nickel per glove. But I believe it must be bought in quantity.

I'll take a look elsewhere to see if they sell them individually. For this to work it must be mailed from every Browncoat all over the world, not just here in the states. A little card with "Can't Stop the Signal" included in the mailing is definitely a nice touch.

Two by Two, Hands of Blue.

Could you get one specific company from which you ordered the gloves to sell and deliver them? Like what Jericho did with the peanuts?

I propose we stay on course and keep converting people to the cause ,we neeed to take examples from modern religions, like scientology on how they convert masses of people to their cause. Then use these methods for good and get a second series..................Church of the Browncoats ...........p.s I personally am atheist and dont mean to insult anyones beliefs, I just think some kind of orgsniseation could help ,but then again we are Browncoats and takin orders aint really our thing....all the best miike

Hey, I'm new to the site and i'm definitely down for exactly this type of effort... I'd love to see another season. However, y'all do realize the number of people we'd have to get to participate for this to work, right? This thread has been read less than 200 times... What we really need is some type of system to coordinate and recruit large numbers of people... A facebook group would be a good start (if there aren't a bunch already) but its gonna take alot more than that. Any ideas?

This movement has to be a grassroots thing -

1- we must contact all browncoats; that means everyone who's ever seen an episode, browncoat chapters, etc. By calling, e-mail, even carrier pigeon our friends, family, exes, anyone who has an address and a stamp.

2- mobilizing the press; underground as well as mainstream (that means press releases about our concerted effort to get the Alliance's attention)
(Petitions are so yesterday and ineffective)

3- Buying the blue gloves is the least of it - we need people. I'll buy the first case if I can get them to folks out there in our 'verse to distribute them, and once we get an address to send it to the rest should be easy-peasy.

Hey somaholiday, welcome aboard, good idea you have about the facebook group. That's what we need, however simple it may sound just throw them out there and see what sticks. We browncoats from each state to organize wihtin the state and report back here.

I have an idea about a date: I suggest the mail date for the Blue Glove Assault to take place on September 20th, the aniversary date of the TV series.

We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty!

Im from England so im not to up on American magazines and things but what about taking out an advert in a magazine in the states. or maybe even make a news letter of our own and send that to fox/universal, we could outline how we feel regarding firefly and its demise. Run that along side the blue gloves idea. Just brain storming and chucking ideas out.

ok a few more things. First off, i checked around facebook, and there are a bunch of different firefly groups, but the main one seems to be a group called "bring firefly back." It has over 5000 members. We should most definitely pitch the blue glove idea on there... if we could get even a third of those people to help, that'd be a great start. Second, and this is an idea for later (if and when we actually get this ball rolling) a bunch of people (especially according to a poll on this site) have said that they'd contribute 1, 10, or even 100 dollars to get the show started again... if everyone who read this thread put in 10 dollars, thats almost 2000 dollars... if half the people in the firefly facebook group put in 10 dollars, thats 25000 dollars... you see where i'm headed? We could do some real damage with that kinda money, so this is an idea for phase 2 of the plan, if the blue glove thing doesn't work. That's all i got for now.

I've seen SOOO many of these ideas before, and I've always wanted to be a part of them - but I've found that for them to work in any way, they have to have a centralized power - a person or group of people, pulling the strings, spending the time, and organizing until their brains explode...and even then they usually still don't get off the ground. I am always willing to pitch in my time and my effort, but I'd need to see some real power, enthusiasm, and ORGANIZATION behind it before I'd throw my chips in. The last great effort was on the UniHD forums, and before that it was the Qmx wavecards campaign. I pitched in with those, but even with all the people behind them, there still wasn't enough organization to get enough people to make a difference. I know we've got the numbers, but I have friends who love this show as much as me who don't even go on the forums - so that's the kicker right there. We need to get EVERYONE - not just the forum surfers, or the facebook people, but EVERYONE. e-mails, letters, postcards, hell, I like the carrier pigeon idea. So as soon as someone takes the reigns and spreads the word to thems need it told, count me in - until then, I'll be waiting.

I would be willing to help. This sounds like a great idea. I think the hardest part would be getting the word out. I would be willing to make a couple of graphics people could use (signatures, etc) with the cause and date on them to spread the word. Maybe we could make a website? I would be willing to, but someone else could make something better than I could. Let's do this!

Staples is right. For the last few hours I was websurfing and googling Save Jericho. I came upon their fansite and they seem to be very well organized and focused (at least when they first saved their show).

I got the idea about the gloves from their campaign to save their show. As part of an overall attack on the network (CBS) the had their fans send peanuts to the execs at CBS in both LA and NY. They also conducted a letter writing and e-mail campaign. They also sent post cards and made phone calls. All in the effort to save the show.

As I researched and read I realized more and more that it takes a great deal of discipline and unflagging passion to mount such an effort.

I'm in.

Will there be 'Companions' ?

Since you mentioned the notion of 'discipline' , and the requirement for 'unflagging passion' , plus the 'mounting' involved in this effort ; might be a good idea to provide some refreshments , and a buffet for questioning , too...

I think we should start off with an e-mail first off, maybe including the poll stats from this link http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=2&t=34497 , also if we can find out how the dvd sales have gone of both the series and the movie and include this in the e-mail. Maybe if we collect as much data like this, post it in this thread and send e-mails using this data and expressing our opinions on Firefly then this would be a good starting point. Later on thats when the Gloves idea can come into play. What do you think?

That's not a bad idea. The trick, of course, is getting the email to the right people. Though I'm not sure how you'd find out the sales records for FireFly and Serenity.

Angelic made a good point. This project should have its own website if we're going to be more organized about this. I know of a good free website provider ( http://atspace.com ), and I am also a graphic designer. I could easily set up a site for us, as well as forums.

Any thoughts?

Hi everyone, long time lurker first time poster

I have to agree that new website might be the best course of action, nothing fancy, just a location specifically devoted to this movement, where all the info and ideas are located. Right now this whole plan is spread out over a bunch of threads on a bunch of sites, so not very many people are even going to see it. If we make a site that has all the info (where to get gloves, where to send them etc) in one spot then it makes things much easier. It could also be a place for a centralized discussion, instead of starting a thread on every fan site, we could just tell people to check out the forums on our site. Once the site is set up we could pitch the idea to a few different media outlets where non-forum goers would see it (I’m thinking io9, ign and possible G4) as well as the facebook grope. I think that a lot of people will be willing to contribute, but don’t have the time to try and track down all the important info.

I also think we should give the option for people to just contribute money to the cause, it may be difficult for some people stay involved in this plan for long periods of time, it may also be difficult for some people to order/mail the gloves (if they live overseas for example). If, on this hypothetical new site, we give people the option to donate 10 bucks or something we could potentially get a lot more support then if we require everyone to mail their own pair of gloves.

O.K., here are some thoughts.

I'm not to up on the current state of television, since I don't have cable or satellite and can't seem to get a decent antenna signal where I live, but Joss has a new series coming out on FOX, no? Apparently some healing has taken place there. Also, FOX owns Firefly itself. I'm not sure when the debut is supposed to be, but supposing we continue to organize, planning, waiting, lurking... And after the Dollhouse has been on for six months and is as wildly popular and successful as we all know it will be, we STRIKE!!!!!!

I'm just saying, it might be good timing, if Joss can provide a real cash cow for FOX, then it might make them more receptive to the idea of re-launching our BDH.

Of course, there is always the Joss element to consider. I mean, some of the cast are working, but none of them very heavily, so them I'm not so much worried about wanting to come back. (Just from interviews and other whatnot, I'd say Ron Glass might have been willing to leave it behind him, but no problems there. He...achem. Still so sad. Too soon... too soon...) Anyway, what I'm more worried about is Joss. I haven't heard much out of him since...oh, since the BDM CE release, at least, maybe longer. Do we have anything recent from Joss that says HE'S willing to do it again? That is key.

I don't have much in the way of skills or money, but I am ready, willing, and able to be one of the grassroots, as long as Joss would support our actions. A quote from him on this new website we are talking about would be wicked awesome. I think the website is a great idea, and I'll be there religiously as soon as it's created.

I missed out on the show until after the BDM was already out, so I didn't get to take part the last time all the Browncoats did the impossible. I'm eager to prove my loyalty!

Still holding...

So we have a website that's under construction. Should we start a forum just for the save firefly movement? I would be willing to head that one up.

Sending an email is a good idea. We could make a template that everyone who wants to restart firefly could send to everyone that they know. And so on and so forth. That's a great way to connect with lots of people.

As for myspace... I don't care for it much. Facebook and the other hand has a pretty good group system that we could take advantage of. (Even just by joining the firefly groups already up there and posting links to our movement page.)

The address I think we would need is this one:

MONTYSSOUPCATCHER

Yes he says its not happening as nobody is knocking on his door, but he also says that if they were just like summer glau he would do it in a heart beat. Therefore he still must have the disire to do something with firefly and the cast would like to do something to by the sound of it. I know some people have knocked this idea of trying to get firefly to the front of tv bosses minds again saying its a waste of time but i say if you dont try then you will never know. Not having a dig at anyone but like i said we can only try to do this and see what the outcome is, it wont hurt anyone and if it does work then great if it doesnt work we havent lost anything.

Yeah, I don't see this article as discouraging in any way. I knew nobody WAS doing it, I just wanted to know if Joss would WANT to do it, given the opportunity, and it sounds like he would. That is enough for me.

As for some of the underlying fear here that it is a waste of time... Well, don't get me wrong by my posting here: There is not even a sliver of me that thinks this is actually going to happen. But you know what? I don't care! And that doesn't make it a waste of time! If we try and fail, then we will still have succeeded in showing that the Signal is still out there, and the Signal is US. True, it might be the same 14-episode Signal, put on loop, replaying over...and over...and over... But it is STILL going strong. Since I got into the show, I've created at least 4 converts, so I know firsthand that our numbers are still growing. And once you're in Serenity, you never leave, so we know our numbers will never shrink. (I do say, though, we should take our time and do this thing right. I don't want to blow our chances by going off half-cocked, since we might be down to our last round, here.)

I can THINK, even KNOW, with every part of my brain that this isn't going to work, but that doesn't stop the HOPE in my heart that it might just happen. After all, the 'Verse smiles on those who keep fighting for a lost cause. So, I say, let's rally. One last surge to hold the line against the darkness. One last push out into the Black. If we try and fail, we're out a little time, a little coin, and maybe some poeple will call us crazy. But if we never try at all, what are we then? I'd rather be a nut than a quitter.

Remember, you can't take the sky from me! The world's gonna see it, too. 'Cause they need to.

To quote another great sci-fi writer who never quit fighting for his story: "If you're falling off a cliff, you might as well try to fly. You haven't got anything to lose."
