I'll continue to watch it, but, honestly, I was hoping Fox would take this opportunity to realize what a mistake it was to cancel Firefly and get the group back together. Oh well ... I am happy about Castle. I've never watched any police shows, and I only tried it because of Nathan. And he's great in it!

I'm glad both those shows got renewed. Castle is great just because of the chemistry with Nathan and Stana Katic.

It's good that Dollhouse will get another chance, I thought it was just starting to hit it's stride. And now they have some time to go to the drawing board a little bit. Find what worked, what didn't, get a better advertising plan, a better night to air, and maybe all will be well.

Just trying to start a rumor!

That's a time-honored method to sway executive opinion.

Book authors use it during radio interviews, to say to millions of listeners, "You can find my book at Borders or any bookstore." When 1000s of customers ask Borders for that book, the publishers line up to print the book.

Just sayin...

I hope that's not what Buffyverse was doin. Hope its not a Trifecta.

Whilst I am happy for Joss that Dollhouse got renewed it just adds to my perplexion as to Firefly. Dollhouse is nothing in comparison to Firefly yet it gets renewed...

Yes. I'm expecting the announcement of Serenity 2, after a double dose of Serenity on TV in 2 days. Star Trek only lasted one season too, and it was marketed as a "space western".

Calling it WhoreHouse was too obvious

"Wagon Train to the stars" is how it was pitched. Funny that, and getting funnier every year.

Because like Joss he knew that if he told them what it was really going to be about the stupid executives wouldn't have green lit it. Better a small crap concept they could understand like "Wagon Train to the stars".

But today, they better renew Chuck for another 40 episodes.

I'm very happy Dollhouse gets renewed. Honestly, there could be tears (no, honestly).

And you know why I feel so triumphant, really? Why, we get to see the 'sleepies' for another season, of course; but more importantly almost, because it seems Fox finally learnt something. Yes, the first 5 eps, certainly in hindsight, were a waste of time and space; but I think Fox realized two things in the process: A) It's their own meddling which caused these first eps to suck to begin with; and B) the show simply deserved a second chance after demonstrating it had a real potential to grow, and was already a good stretch on the road of redeeming said growth.

Colour me amazed.

I don't think I've ever heard of Fox renewing a show that's been described as "struggling."

And it might have gotten easier for you to catch up - looks like Amazon is taking pre-orders for the Dollhouse S1 DVDs, due out July 28th!

This is exactly why I'm GLAD they're releasing them so quickly to DVD - so that people who only saw a few eps can find out what they missed, and get ready for Season 2.

And for those who've seen my less-than-enthusiastic reactions to Dollhouse, rest assured that I *will* be watching if it indeed comes back. And I'll buy the DVDs as well. I didn't really care much for the show, but I'll support it in any way I can, in support of Joss, and because I have faith (no pun intended) that Joss and Eliza know where they're taking us with this ride. It's NOT my favorite show, but if all I'd ever seen of Buffy was Season One, I probably wouldn't have cared much for it, either. Joss tends to start kinda slow and build up through the second and third seasons, so Dollhouse could still turn out to be one hell of a ride.

I wasn't crazy about the show, but I'm glad it's renewed and look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

And ya know, if Joss's shows typically have to build on "okay" or even mediocre first seasons... just how good do you think Firefly would have gotten? I mean, we only have the one short season and a pretty spectacular movie to judge by, and it was still nothing short of breathtaking.

Castle is renewed. Fringe is renewed. Now Dollhouse apparently is renewed. Renew Chuck and Supernatural, and my TV schedule is plenty good. There are other shows I watch and enjoy, but those are among my favorites, and all have been on the chopping block recently, and have been saved.

But dammit, I really do wish Aaron Sorkin would reboot The West Wing, what with the political climate and the changes to the political landscape since the original series ended... Too much to hope for, I suppose.

So, given that the ^ is true, if, given that Firefly started "kinda slow", then what could it have become, eh?

Actually, & so forth

Atlthough it may have long ago jumped the shark, Firefly would have, should have been the television show that made all other television meaningless. Other than that, I've not much of a vested interest.

Supernatural's renewal was announced a month-or-so ago. Season 5 will likely be the end (the writers had a 5-year-arc planned, so they're on schedule).

Still waiting for an official confirmation of Chuck (which we were supposed to hear a couple of weeks back).

Exactly. And to be clear, I'm not saying that Firefly started slow - although to be fair, it DID take me until "The Train Job" to get well and truly hooked (the moment Mal kicked Crown into Serenity's engine, my jaw dropped, and I knew I wasn't in for any ordinary TV show if the "good guy" could do THAT!). But if it, like Buffy and Angel, started off and then really gained steam into the second and third seasons, just imagine what could have been in store for us. The mind reels just trying to imagine it...

And it's really only been this realization that actually makes me fairly giddy that Dollhouse might get that chance. And anyone who's read any of my posts about Dollhouse should know that I have NOT been a big fan of it. Well, I was wrong, just flat-out dead wrong, and now I'm definitely invested in the show and can't wait to see where it goes.

Thanks for that bit of news, Cyber. That IS good to hear.

And I'm okay with Supernatural ending after a five-year run. I like to see my favorite shows go seven seasons, but I've noticed that a lot of the time (Gilmore Girls, Buffy, The West Wing, The Shield), the sixth season tends to feel more like "filler", and they don't really seem to get back on track to winding things up until the seventh season. In fairness, all of those shows had "issues" in their sixth seasons that threw things off a bit (Gilmore Girls lost their creators, the Palladinos, in S6, but they came back for S7 if memory serves; Buffy was really supposed to end at S5, and was brought back to jump-start UPN, so it wasn't really thought out that well going into it, and they covered pretty nicely; The West Wing ditched creator Aaron Sorkin after his marijuana arrest, and only brought him back for the final season, and the writing clearly lost much of its snap without him there; and The Shield suffered, like so many other shows, because of the writers' strike). All of them seemed to rebound for the final seasons, though.

I can definitely see Supernatural wrapping things up, and if they decide to do made-for-TV movies or direct-to-DVD movies, I'll be interested. Supernatural, in many ways, just feels to me like a kind of continuation of the Buffyverse. I'm hoping for a really bang-up final season, and I have no doubts they'll deliver.

Let's hope Fringe, Chuck, and Dollhouse get the same longevity.

I said from the beginning that you needed patience when it came to Dollhouse. But, to be fair, I thought most of the early eps could have been better.

Renewed, whoopdeedoo!

Personally I think Fox really didn't want to make the same mistake they made with Firefly, that is prematurely cancellation (ooops, I hate when that happens). From all indications, I believe it was the DVR and Hulu numbers that saved the show - uptick of 40% is nothing to sneeze at. Somehow a deal was struck to give it another season, so we need strong numbers in the fall for future seasons.

In order to get our Firefly back, or another BDM, Joss needs to kick ass in the ratings dept. So here's to a great season of Dollhouse.

I know, I'm dreaming, but stranger things have happened.

The ever hopeful SGG
