FOX Begs Fans to Prevent Cancellation (of sorts)

CEDRIC

In an odd twist of fate, the FOX Network ran ads during last Friday's Dollhouse, asking fans of FOX shows to rally behind them in their fight with Time Warner Cable. They even point out that our favorite shows, such as Dollhouse, might go away without our support in this struggle.

This raises three questions:

(1) Why on Earth would FOX think that fan protests can prevent a cancellation? It hasn't worked when we protested to FOX!

(2) Why on Earth would FOX think that Dollhouse fans would feel any sense of loyalty to them when they've already cancelled the show?

(3) Why on Earth would FOX think that fans of television in general would feel any sense of loyalty to FOX? They've broken our hearts with cancellations so many times that all I can do is sit back and laugh that they want our help.

So, I encourage all Browncoats to go to www.keepfoxon.com and post polite explanations of why we don't have their back on this one.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I always watch off the DVR and skip over the commercials so I missed that. It does seem odd they would include Dollhouse in that statement since we all know it only has three more episodes before it goes bye-bye.

Not sure if it would effect me at all one way or the other since I have cable from a company other than Time Warner.

I can't remember how the expression goes so I am not sure "if I would piss on Fox if they were on fire"...

On the one hand I would like very much to piss on them.. on the other hand watching them burn has its own appeal.

I just left the following comment:

I feel that this appeal for fans to rally in support of FOX is quite ironic and rather insulting considering the efforts fans of the TV series 'Firefly.' After such an extensive effort was carried out by the Browncoats (Firefly fans) to save Firefly, I am not slightly inclined to support this cause. Thank-you.

Browncoat and proud!

Not a damn thing on their "what would I miss?" list that you can't get on other channels or on DVD later on.

As hooked as I am on the final few episodes of Dollhouse, I'd gladly wait for the DVD release if it meant FOX getting a taste of their own medicine.

Then again, it would only be worth it if they were aware of the irony, which I doubt...

This is Fox and Time Warner (Content Creators versus Content Deliverers) having a disagreement over pricing.

Time Warner's site:
http://rolloverorgettough.com/

"Some of our contracts with program providers are up at the end of this year – and they’ve demanded as much as 300% more for their shows. Even worse, they’re threatening to pull the plug if we don’t pay their price."

Fux wants to charge more for programming and Time Warner doesn't want to pay it (which is BS since they'd just shift the charge to their users - they may even do both!).

Both sides are trying to manipulate viewers, to rile them up and get them mad at the other side, "They're trying to gouge us!" "They're going to stop carrying your favorite shows!"
That's what FUX means when they say "cancellation."

I say FUX 'em both. There's too much tv anyway.

Besides, House is too big right now to be lost through the cracks.

If they lose it, someone else will pick it up.

No big loss.

This has cheered me up and I was already happy.
They want OUR help!!

Even if Dollhouse could be saved I would be willing to let it go because of their past atrocities. There is no way that whatever help is given by fans would they bring it back for another season.

I say we piss on them even if they are not on fire.
They've pissed on us enough.

So say we all.

Then again, Fox was the new network that took a chance on shows that, in retrospect, should have been on cable. Without Fox taking the chance, we might never have seen Firefly or Dollhouse. These two shows didn't find an audience soon enough, and while it's nice to say that Fox should have carried them for a year or two until everyone got the memo, that's not the way the TV biz works anymore.

It's easy to hate Fox, but without them, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Interesting--Fox seems to be allowing posts that complain about their rate increase, but they're not brave enough to make public our posts that point out how much we would support them if Firefly were still on the air.

My comments to FOX:

You know what FOX, I am just going to have to say this serves you right. After the way you have treated fans over the last decade, you deserve this.

Who wants to pay more for a company that can't figure out that it should keep good shows on? That is no way to develop fans, and more importantly, more viewers. So what if shows take a little time to develop. Seinfeld took years to become strong and that worked out pretty well for the show and NBC.

So, yeah, screw you on this one FOX. You have earned it. Now go reap what you have sown.

I'm torn, they did let Joss try again, and they did keep Dollhouse for a second season,......maybe, and thats a big maybe, if we help them out, maybe they would re-consiter(sp) putting that 'space cowboy' show back on in some way.
I will post but only by reminding them that THE Bowncoats are trying to help, and they should return the favor.

Be careful. Paying any attention whatsoever to Fox's site might unintentionally aid their cause. All they might do at the end of the day is rheel off statistics. X amounts of visits to the site. Y amount of comments from concerned viewers. They won't destinguish good or bad. They'll spin the numbers in their favor and end up with the leverage they need.

They got the defiant “ I won’t support you!” response from me. The last time I did try to watch anything on that network was when Tim’s tv show DRIVE was on. That didn’t last but 4 episodes. Haven’t watched a thing on there since then.

I won’t miss ‘em

This sounds like a chicken and egg thing. Who really needs whom here? Fox will suffer without the numbers from Time-Warner, but Time-Warner will be beseiged by irate viewers and suffer if Fox is gone from their line-up. The whole thing is a bit surrealistic, and because it's all about money and greed, I don't give a damn!

*barely aknoledging nod* RIVERLOVE.

Unfortunantly, i agree with you on the whole T-W/Bright House v. FOX thing. BUT, don't you think that FOX desrves what is happening to them? I mean they cancel GREAT shows, like Firefly, TSCC, Dark Angel, and other's and they keep crap on like American Idol, and Glee? WHo watches this shit for anything other than laughs. Well maybe the people who vote on A.I., but GLEE?????????????? And they cancel DOLLHOUSE? I mean i know that i didn't watch much of the show, but come on. They did to it what they did to Dark Angel, Firefly, and it's predecessor, TSCC. They put it on the Friday, virtually giving up on the show before it got a chance to get good. Now they pulled dick moves like they did with DARK ANGEL, and FIREFLY, and cancelled it in the middle of the season (FIREFLY), and they gave a big Finger to the fans, (All Four). So i say FOX get's what it deserves. I mean i'll only miss my Friday Night Smackdown, my Undertaker (in a creepely Paul Bearer sounding voice), but i still have Raw, and all the other shows i like. Who knows, this could open up spots for new channels to get notariety? But that probably woun't happen because TW/ Bright House will cave like they did last time, and keep their Nelson points.

BTW, why do we STILL use the Nelson TV system any way? It's outdated, and causes many a good show to be cancelled because only two out some fifty odd houses watch the shows, but they account for ALL the houses in their mythical "voting" area. That's just the problem with statistics, they can be easily manipulated to read one way.

I'm shocked that they caved. I have DirecTV and if they ever jack up the price for the "local channels" I'd just cancel that service. I already have rabbit ears for the over the air HD channels and they come in just fine. Why would I pay $1 per local channel per month?
