You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

And saying he picked it up from a TV show he used to love.

Yeah, really cute Firefly reference on Castle last night (11-15-10) as well as an enjoyable episode too. Nathan really hit his peak with the punch-line jokes in this one. There were so many I can’t remember them all. My spouse laughed for a complete hour afterwards. She loves Nathan to death……well, not to death, you know what I mean……

NBC & ABC seem to be doing our BDHs proud. Chuck is on season 5.…I think, and Castle is on it’s third season. My gratitude goes out to both networks for giving these shows an opportunity to develop their audiences. Heaven only knows where Firefly would be now if it had been given the same chance.

That puts a smile on my face.

Yes when he spouted off what he said, I grinned, when he referenced a show he used to love, I cheered :)

I love it when they do little shoutouts like that. And I love how entertaining the show is.

Too bad it was Cantonese, though. On Firefly, they spoke Mandarin. (Badly.)

Though the line was clearly ADR'd in (note how Nathan's face was carefully off-camera when he said it), it did sound like Nathan's voice. Possibly he needed some in-studio coaching to get the tonality right, or maybe the audio mixer just assembled it in ProTools from bits and pieces of different lines/takes.

Doing it backwards. Walking up the downslide.

There was at least one instance of Cantonese sneaking into Firefly on the recorded message from 'Out of Gas.' But yeah, it was mostly Mandarin. Still, it was another great nod from the writers, and earned my most delighted giggle of an episode full of delighted giggles.
(And it only panned away from Nathan's face for about half of it.)

Facts are stubborn things.

Yup, I loved it. The whole way they worked it in and "explained" it. Such an inside joke, really, but a great nod to Browncoats everywhere. :)

Saying like that make my day.

Even though i didn't like the episode that much. The "AGENT" was the weak link cant stand his serious acting. HE doesn't look act or even talk like u would expect and agent to talk. HE just reminds me of the movie the New Guy.

I also enjoyed the little side...where's the old Nazi to torture me:)

But still I liked the smile on Nathan's face when he referenced a show he loved:)

Aint it the truth, aint it the truth (in Burt Lahr's voice).

Nathan is as smart as he is talented and knows his fanbase. He knows the die-hard Browncoats are watching (and most likely has explained as much to TPTB at ABC). So every once in a while he gives us a "wink" to both say thanks and I know you're watching. Plus he really loves Firefly. Don't we all!

My thoughts and memorable moments from "Close Encounters of the Murderous Kind":

THE Castle "X-Files" episode, with many shout outs.

I couldn't stop smiling through out this whole ep, and thinking "F-ing awesome!" Definitely one of my top 5 favorite eps.

Castle whistles The X-Files theme several times.

The galaxies and other celestial images at the science center; Hubble got'chu!

An implant up the nose!

Kate got a Lego piece stuck up her nose when she was 6, which means she is, or at least was, a Lego maniac!

Castle: "I'm not saying you should dye your hair red and call me Mulder, but...." Haaaaaaa!

Lyle Lovett was a Man in Black. Interesting. I was fully expecting Castle or Beckett to ask: "Was that Lyle Lovett?", right before they get hypnotized..... but that didn't happen:(

For a short span, Kate was a believer. (Whoa... This reminds me of a different Kate in Angel seasons 1 & 2.)

Kate speaks into tupperware.

Stana wears jeans.

**stares out into space for a good minute**

I'm back.

So, the cliche of the car, watch, and phone (electronics) losing power during an abduction, is from an EMP. Ohhh. That actually makes sense.

USED TO?! What, like, not anymore? You'd think Castle, with his vast wealth, would be able to afford the DVDs. They're pretty cheap nowadays. He could probably get a good deal on Amazon.

The afore mentioned: Castle learned Chinese from a show he used to watch.

Cantonese. It's thinner. Luckly, ice cream is a universal language.

So, in Castleverse, Firefly is a TV show, and Castle is a huge Jossverse fan who can afford an exact "replica" Mal costume AND catalyzer. Thus explains "Vampire Weekend".

The ep ends with a lightning bolt, like the end of The X-Files' opening credits.

IMO, Castle is currently the best show on TV.

One thing that struck me in terms of X-files homages was when the car stopped and they both leaned forward to look up, it seemed basically shot-for-shot of when the same thing happened in the X-files Pilot. I haven't watched the pilot again to be sure, though.

I tuned in last night to find no Castle. Bummer.

Last week I noticed that they did not have Summer, but instead had the original Terminator, before the role was re-cast for Arnold. Wasn't sure if that (Lance Hendriksen) was a shout-out or not.
But did get the Chinese sourcing, chagrined that he "used to love" indicating past tense. Hopefully just meaning no longer on the air.
