Hi,

I'm a bit concerned about the accuracy of the Browncoats Map. I don't want it to be accurate, but some of those markers seem accurate. For those of you who are on the map, can you take a look? If they hit too close to home, I'm going to remove the user names.

I'm apparently the only one in my town, so it doesn't drive down to my street level.

I wish I was living close to where the map shows me: between Top Dollar Pawn, W Grill, and down the street from Honky Tonk.

The map just points at my town. The place it is saying I actually am at is just a middle point in Bako. That is fine by me.

I didn't even know I'm routed outta Fort Wayne, but then, I wouldn't I'm more towards the toes of the boot, but whatev...

I'm curious how you compiled the list, is this just people who've been here recently, or people who come here frequently? I didn't see a couple people...

What made you think ta put it together?

IP logging was added a few years back when the site was hacked. It's mainly used to detect and block people and bots that attack the site. As an example, the entire country of China is blocked (see the irony?), but they send out so much crap that it's just easier to block them out.

The map currently only include those who are most active on the site and is done primarily for performances purposes. The more markers there are, the longer it'll take the map to load. I'll eventually add more markers though.

As for why, it's because I had a similar map for the classic FFF.NET site, but the Google MAP API back then wasn't as good as the current version.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It's discouraging that I'm the only one in Waco, Texas, or at least the only one listed. And only one in Austin? That has to be a mistake. I've only met a handful of people locally who are even aware of Firefly, but obviously most aren't fanatics or internet junkies like us.

ETA: You have me placed at the corner of 12th St. and Austin Avenue, which is approximately a mile southeast of my actual location. Perhaps that is the geographical center of Waco.

Second Edit: Hey, Haken. Why isn't there a marker for you?

Really, China? I wouldv'e thought Nigeria or one of those nice scam-loving countries... And yes, completely ironic.

Something tells me you NOT listing yourself is a good move...

Ya, but if you didn't know and wanted to get all stalker-y it would at least take you an extra hour to find a thread containing said location.

I would think anybody randomly visiting here would be more worried about us stalking THEM.
We're not gonna stalk Haken... NO STAlKING THE GOD OF THE INTERWEBS, PEOPLE! Don't make me go all 1994 and break out a can of "whoop-ass"....

Yer welcome Haken, hon!

I just clicked on it and it worked for me. What errors are you getting? It does require that you allow Google Map to function on your computer.

Hello,

I see no issue with the map. I am unclear on how I can add myself to the map, though. Is it an automatic process when I log in enough times? Do I need to register somewhere?

--Anthony

ETA: I found myself! I was several miles from my actual location, so no worries.
