Likes to mess with stuffs.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a distribution and co-financing deal between Sony and MGM may finally pave the way for Joss Whedon's 'Cabin in the Woods' to make it to the box office. The 3D tongue-in-cheek thriller horror was slated to premiere last month, but due to financial troubles over at MGM, the movie was shelved indefinitely.

I've been wondering what the heck is going on with Cabin in the Woods. I was like "OK it's February...where's the movie already?". Seems so odd to me that a studio with money problems would pay all the money to make a film and then just sit on it. I'm sure marketing isn't cheap or anything but you aren't going to make any money unless you release your movies. Sheesh.

Stuff normally gets shelved when it's so bad as to be an embarassment to the studio or the executives who OK'ed it, or is judged to be by those same suits.

Not sayin' it is, ya understand, but that's usually why.

I actually heard they were pleased with Cabin in the Woods and were looking at it as a way to pull themselves out of bankruptcy. That's why they decided to invest in transitioning it into 3D.

Then again I also heard they were banking on hot tub time machine being a hit as well.

STORYMARK

Yeah, the movie tested very well 2 years ago, which is why they went back and did the post conversion for 3D. The delay was just over MGMs financial situation. They also have their Red Dawn remake and a couple other films on the shelf.

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

Yes!
That's great news... if it comes to fruition that is. To be honest i got the feeling we prob will only get it on DVD over here anyway, but here's hoping we get a big screen release too

I met Fran Kranz last year at a con and he was telling us that it was all finished (and he was so enthusiastic about it, I couldn't help get sucked in) but that they were holding off on its release so that they could release it in 3D - even though everybody on the production really didn't want that.
Then MGM went under and screwed it indefinitely.

I figured with Avengers coming out soon though, they wouldn't bury the film for good
