I was at work with nothing on the agenda, so I decided to rent a movie to kill a couple of hours. I came across the poster of Upside Down (with Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst, who is very convincing in this film).

It is described as a drama, fantasy, romance but I would throw in a dash of sci-fi. The story involves 2 lovers living in twin worlds that are literally stacked one over the other and each have their own gravity. After an incident, the 2 lovers are separated and some time later the young man sets out to find his true love.

The subtext in the story is that one world has it all, while the other is looked upon as being inferior. An interesting sub text, and one that is at constant odds with the 2 lovers. But what made this film particularly interesting to me, aside from Ms. Dunst's performance, was the gorgeous visual FX and cinematography. It reminded me of The Fountain in many aspects, crossed with the brilliant visuals in The Golden Compass and Hugo.
It was as though it was a painting come to life, especially in the scenes on Sage Mountain. I can safely say that it was another character that breathed life into the narrative.

Check it out with a loved one, guaranteed you will get laid.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I rented it from Netflix a week or so ago. Not sure if I liked it or not, but it was visually dazzling. I'd say it's a sci-fi version of Romeo & Juliet, other than the fact that neither dies in the end.
