For me it was Out of Gas at the end when the Mal woke up and all the BDHs where there. When he asked them if they were going to still be there when he woke up. That scene always gets to me. I guess I like it because there is a sense of love in that scene.

Another scene that always chokes me a bit is the last scene from the Train Job. where that sheriff guy and his deputy catches Mal and Zoë trying to sneak that medicine back to town, and the Sheriff says to Mal "When a man takes a job, and doesn’t look too closely at what that job is, but when a man finds out what that job is, he has a choice too make." Mal looks at him and says something like “no he doesn’t”, meaning in that kind of situation, the only choice is doing the right thing, by giving that medication to the people who needed it.

To me that line that Mal said showed that he was a man of integrity; an honorable man. In the end, he's on the side of good. I'm always touched by scenes like that.

Another scene is from Arial, at the end of the show when Mal gets on Jayne’s case about the fact that when he messes with the crew, he's actually messing with Mal himself, and Mal takes that as a complete back-stab. He’s protective of his crew and if you decide to mess with any of them, you will have to deal with Mal. This is the sort of guy I've always wanted in my life...that kind of love and protectiveness, so I always get a little misty-eyed whenever I see that scene.

And lastly, the ending scene from Safe. When the crew was sitting down for dinner. It had a nice feeling of family. Warmth, love, understanding, and a sense of belonging, which is something I think most of us want and desire deep down inside.

Being the manly man that I am I cannot actually admit to crying but...At the end of Out of Gas when we see Mal as he first saw Serenity. That part is a killer. Objects in Space when River is telling Simon why it would be better for her to go with Early. That one is pretty tough too. Last but not least, every time River has a serious meltdown, not the funny ones, it is just so hard not to feel bad for her.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Definitely Out of Gas. The music just conveys the emotions of the scenes so well that the score combined w/ Nathan's acting just get me choked up every time.

The Message get to me too at the end where Tracy's message is playing as they carry him off the ship. You see everyone's face, Jayne taking off his hat, and that look from Mal. That hits me too.

Same as other folks: end of Out of Gas and end of The Message.

And, I know you didn't ask, but I had to add that the most teary-eyed that I get is in the BDM, after Simon is shot, and he and River share a moment. No wonder Summer kept crying while filming that scene that they had to do several takes. Powerful stuff. Also, at the end when Mal tells River that love is what keeps a ship in the air.

Hell, I'm gettin' teary-eyed right now typing this and thinking about those scenes!

Out of Gas when Mal sees Serenity for the first time

Movie when Wash and Book die

The end of Jaynestown, where Jayne's trying to make sense of what just happened but seems to fall just short of figuring out, but still feels "something".

The end of The Message, after the kid dies, and they're presenting his body to the family. I know this one was supposed in envoke those types of emotions, being the last aired episode and all, but that scene was gretuitously emotional. It almost made me become a gawth.

Almost all of Out of Gas, but specificially when it shows Mal seeing Serenity for the first time. He had a greater initial attraction to the ship than he did to Inara.

Objects in Space was one of the few with a happy ending (Except for Jubal... poor Jubal) that was a lot more wistful early on when River's experiencing everyone's thoughts/emotions. I'm not usually empathetic towards other people's plights, but... I guess it makes sense that when I finally am, it's for a fictional character.

The BDM has to be the epitomy for me, though. At the end, the little exchange between River and Mal. "Storm's getting worse", "We'll rise above it soon enough". Something like that. Almost invokes thoughts of suicide just to escape the sinking feeling in my chest.

Course, this is all taking away from the inheirent ability of even the funniest episode to make me cry. Maybe it woulda been different watching them without KNOWING that they were going to come to an end, but I only saw the series after it got cancelled. I often accuse friends who see the show and don't immediately fall in love with it of not having souls.

The part where Simon tells the others about River after she's come out of the box... that long monologue and the music behind it makes me cry everytime. The end of "Out of Gas", when Mal sees Serenity, I am transfixed by his face and already crying. "The Message", by the end, I'm in rolling down my cheeks tears. The end of "Objects in Space", just cuz it's the end.
My heart does the same thing it did the very first time... every single time. It breaks.

Ok, now you all have gone and done it, I don't even have to watch them and I'm crying.

And the scene at the end of "Safe", oh, my.

Definitely Jaynestown towards the end where we have Jayne conflicted on the whole hero status and the responsabilities that come with it. The Message is still my least and most favorite episode. That one definately triggered some memories a few people I could not help.

During the initial run on Fox I teared up during Safe, Out of Gas, and Objects in Space. When I got the DVDs Heart of Gold and The Message got me. What really made me cry was the first time I saw the ship on the big screen. The combination of music and the "majestic" way it appears was too much. Just hearing the music makes me sniffle now.

I think we all love those same moments (mine are much the same as the ones above).

Switching it up: which moments made you LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF?

A few for me:

Heart of Gold: when Jayne says "I don't care about these people", Mal says "They're whores" Jayne: "I'm in!" :)

Trash: Saffron to Zoe: "All you got to do to be a rich woman, hon, is get over it!" - and Zoe SMACKS her on the kisser!! :) Also, of course, Naked Butt Captain at the end.

Serenity: Of course, everyone loves Wash: "Ahh ahh! Mine is an Evil Laugh, now DIE!"

Objects in Space: Book (after being knocked out by Jubal) "I put up a fearsome fight" (he only lasted half a second!)

I think the moment in the series that has always brought a tear to my eyes because it's just so powerful and painful, is the speech River makes in Objects in Space. The way she speaks, the broken voice with which she says it, the tears that threaten to fall, and the expressions on the other's faces as they listen, especially Kaylee's and Simon's... it's one of those scenes in the entire series that leaves me completely floored.

Out of Gas - Mal nodding off to sleep, and the scene where he sees Serenity for the first time.

First shot of Serenity in the movie - it reminds me of, of all things, the look on Kirk's face in Star Trek: The Motion Picture when he sees the refurbished Enterprise head on. Or when Picard beamed aboard the Stargazer in Next Gen, and said, "Hello, old friend."

I don't think I've actually cried, but I've certainly gotten the prickly-eye-thing lots.

First time: in the pilot, when Mal tells Simon that Kaylee's dead. I couldn't believe it, my eyes started welling up... and then, of course, I could've killed him (if I could only stop laughing :)

I definitely got teary-eyed in Out of Gas, during Mal's whole, lonely struggle to save Serenity.

I teared up at the end of The Message, even though I didn't particularly like Tracey (selfish, incompetent, shallow little pretty-boy that he was) -- I felt for his family, and I felt for Kaylee and Jayne, who were clearly thinking about their families, and I felt for Mal, and his gut-wrenching acceptance of his responsibility for Tracey's death.

And I think I got the prickles in Objects in Space, when River is talking about how no one wanted her and she would just go away and let everyone forget about her...

Lordy, what a series...

Yup, this is the one that does it for me. River is so surprisingly lucid (even as the ship!) and then it makes you realize that she has known exactly all the trouble they've gone through for her despite her usually confused/disturbed state...

If you haven't heard I might as well tell you that that music was written when the guy found out the show was cancelled, it's more than what it is (paradoxical as that may be) it's a goodbye to the show.

Get's me too, that's also part of the reason the mei-mei scene in safe gets me:

River: I took you away from there.

Simon: No.

River: I know I did. You don't think I do, but... I get confused. I remember everything. I remember too much, and... some of it's made up, and... some of it can't be quantified, and... there's secrets.

Simon: It's okay.

River: But I understand. You gave up everything you had to find me. And you found me broken. It's hard for you. You gave up everything you had.

Simon: Mei mei ... Everything I have is right here.

none of the episodes make me teary, but every time I see the end of serenity (i think you can figure out which scene if you look at my signiture)I cry so bad. Its one of the 4 films that have ever made me cry, heartless ice queen that I am.
I found the Serenity novel in a bookshop the other day, and flicking through I found that scene, and I started to cry! Right in the middle of the Sci-fi section in Borders! And every time I read a fanfic about Wash and Zoe after Serenity, i cant stop myself from filling up!

APPLEBITS

Mine are very River-centric, cause I'm in a "River is the best thing since sliced bread" mood.

In Serenity, it's when Kaylee get shot, and Inara rushes over to her, Kaylee says "Everybody's so mad." the Inara says "It's okay, baby."
Then again, when River wakes up in the cryo box, and screams, and then when Simon is telling the crew about River.
Then at the end, with River & Simon, "I didn't think you'd come for me." Even before that, River's "I slept for so long." & Simon's "Then we'll find a place. We'll find a safe place."

In Safe, it's when River says "I took you away from there. I know I did. You don't think I do, but... I get confused." & "You gave up everything you had to find me. You found me broken. It's hard for you. You gave up everything you had." & Simon's "Mei-mei, everything I have is right here."
Then at the end, "Post-holer. For digging holes for posts." "Light it." "Time to go."

In Our Mrs Reynolds, The look on Inara's face when Mal storms out of the cargo bay to find Saffron. So sad.

In Ariel, when Simon's telling River that they're going to be asleep. River says "I don't wanna do it. I don't wanna go to that place. I don't wanna die."
Then in the hospital, Simon's explaining made me weepy, the whole "They did it over and over..."
Then River's "No no no, they come out of the black, they come when you call."
And River's "No no, I can't go back, I don't wanna go back." when the Feds are about to catch them.

In War Stories, the whole scene with Simon & River in her bed. "Going. Going back. Like apple bits coming back up. Chaos. [...] Played with Kaylee. Sun came out, and I walked on my feet and heard with my ears. I hate the bits, the bits that stay down, and I work, I function like I'm a girl. I hate it because I know it'll go away. The sun goes dark and chaos has come again. Bits. Fluids. What am I?"

In The Message, the funeral (obviously) but also because in the commentary (Alan Tudyk & Jewel Staite) they say that it was the very last scene they shot for the series, and that just made me cry more. Stupid Fox. Idiots.

In Heart of Gold, the scene when Mal comes out of Nandi's room, and Inara sees him made me a little weepy, just how uncomfortable they were. But then what really got me was Inara's breakdown. It's so heartbreaking.

In Objects in Space, towards the end, River's "It's okay, Early, I'm going with you. [...] Don't belong. Dangerous, like you. Can't be controlled, can't be trusted. Everyone could just go on without me and not have to worry. People could be waht they wanted to be, could be with the people they wanted. Could live simple. No secrets. [...] I'll be fine. I'll be your bounty, Jubal Early. And I'll jsut fade away. [...] Simon?!?!?" And then her scream, so sad.

That's all my sad River moments, I'll probably come back with some of the other characters, too. But that's all I have for now...

USAGIVINDALOO

Oh lordy... I'd say the most tearful moment for me, the bit that always makes my throat hurt and my eyes well up, is the first shot of Serenity in the BDM... oh god, just thinking of it and remembering that AMAZING music is making me get all weepy now. It was just so perfect, and I wish I'd been a fan of the series back then and actually gone to opening night (I was converted through DVDs).

Other bits that make me wibble:

- the way Simon is so tender with River after she comes out of the box in the pilot. He's so protective and nurturing, and then you find out she's his sister... I don't know why, but that makes it even more powerful. If Joss had made River his lover or cousin or friend, it would have been one thing, but for some reason the brother/sister thing just gets me right here (and I'm an only child!)

- on a related note, and these make me smile as well as sniffle: I love the scenes where Simon teases River like an older brother. He doesn't do it often as he is usually trying to take care of her... but oh god, when he responds to River saying, "I didn't think you'd come for me," with, "Well, you're a dummy!" it was just... SO perfect. Ditto on the, "I threw up in your bed. / Yep. Definitely my sister" scene.

- Almost all of Out of Gas, mostly the bits where Mal is so totally alone on his ship, dying, with no one to help him... and conversely, the scene where he asks if everyone will be there when he wakes up. The bit where he sees Serenity is also nice, mainly for the beautiful music to set it off.

- "No, mei mei. It's time to wake up."

- I admit to wibbling over poor tortured Wash in War Stories. He was trying but just was not strong enough; I wanted to cry every time his head slipped out of the headrest before Mal snapped him out of it. I also wanted to cry when Zoe is comforting him after his release, being gentle without any sign of their previous disagreement. And then Wash became an awesome badass, and I cheered. ^_^

- Inara crying in Heart of Gold. I really was not expecting that at all, so it hit like a punch to the gut. Conversely, I think I am the only person in the verse who was actually expecting Inara to leave at the end, once she started talking about "depending on strength" and stuff, so that didn't hit me so hard.

- As many people have said, the speech where River agrees to be Early's bounty is just heartwrenching and sad. It unfortunately is not so gripping a second time as I know she's laying it on thick, but at the time, I honestly thought that this was sincere, plus the fact that it was the end of the series made me wonder if she WAS going to be captured. I also wibble at the scene in OiS where the crew is talking about River and she's listening from below, with a slightly sad expression on her face.

"This must be what going mad feels like."

WHENYOUCANTWALK

- Serenity (the pilot). I get teary very easily so it's not exactly like it's a difficult thing, but I was getting teary after Kaylee was shot and Mal refused to turn the ship around until Kaylee cries out - damn I love their relationship. And when Jayne is watching the operation on the catwalk through the window. What a great character moment, seriously. Then Simon and River, after she first comes out of the cryo and then again at the end with "I didn't think you'd come for me." I love them a lot - sibling relationships are my favorite things to explore - reading, writing, role-playing, it's all so wonderful.

- Safe. "Mei mei, everything I have is right here." Oh god. ;_;

- The end of Out of Gas.

- The end of The Message - I think this is the only one I actually cried at. It was sad, sort of in a "All Quiet on the Western Front" sort of way.

- BDM. Um. Okay. I teared up when River begged Simon to kill her ("Bullet to the brain. Squish!"). Also when Book protests that he's not part of Mal's crew and Mal says, "Yes, you are." (Nathan, how do I love thee, let me count the ways...) And... basically from Wash kicking it to the end of the movie I was in one stage of tears or another. I was a sobbing mess, but especially at Simon and River with "You take care of me." I can definitely see why that was hard to film. (Getting teary thinking about it, oops.) It was even worse when I was watching it slightly inebriated because I'm also a very emotional tipsy/drunk, apparently.

Oh yeah, I also laughed until I cried at the "TRAAAP!" in the deleted scenes, does that count?

JOSSISAGOD

Three big ones for me are:

River's speech in Safe after she found the Hodgeberries, The Funneral in The Message, and Early's "Well, here I am." in Objects in Space.

MUSCULARBUTTOCKS

The big ones for me

Serenity (pilot) - River: "I didn't think you'd come for me", Simon: "Well you're a dummy". Priceless acting by both of them.

Out of Gas - Mals long walk, but mostly the "Y'all will be here when I wake up?" scene. Swallowing hard and blinking heavily here!

Objects in Space - "I'll be your bounty Jubal Eary" My god if they hadn't cancelled this show Summer Glau would've had me wallowing in a puddle by season two,...

Oh wait she just saved that for the "You always take care of me Simon. My Turn!" scene in Serenity the BDM.
Damn you Summer ;-) , stop messing with my brain!

Keep Flyin' and have good sex (preferably not at the same time)

ONTHEDRIFT

There are so many moments already talked about where I get weepy, but one that always gets to me is in Ariel. When Simon, River, and Jayne are trying to escape and they get to the locked door, suddenly a gun goes off on the other side and Simon pushes himself in front of River trying his best to shield her with his own body. That says it all about that relationship. Simon and River's relationship affect me the most, to me personally it's the most relatable. In my opinion, familial love is much stronger and selfless than romantic love. It was great to finally see sibling characters that exemplify love.

FLAME

I got a little choked up when Mal kicked Crow through the engine. What a sad, sad waste of a very good looking man.

But, seriously, I always get choked up at the end of JAYNESTOWN, that whole sequence when Jayne kills Stitch, and then yells at the dead kid, and yells at the mudders.

And more than anything in FIREFLY, there's a fanmade Firefly Music Video that makes me ball every time I watch it! It's "Behind Blue Eyes" by Limp Bizkit, with Jayne and River:

I often accuse friends who see the show and don't immediately fall in love with it of not having souls.

I think that's an accurate observation.

I've probably answered this . 'OoG'...'you'll gonna be here when I wake up'. Serenity (BDM) . The end with Mal and River in the cockpit. 'I guess you alreay know what I am gonna say?'. River: 'Yes, but I like to hear you say it'. Brings me to a blubbery mess every time :)

DOMAREAVER

Out of Gas right at the end with Mal in the medical bay asking the crew if they'll still be there when he wakes up, and The Message simply because of the beautiful piece of music played near the end.

Man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything.

The funeral scene in "The Message". The music gives me chills every time, and the scene is beautifully done.

In "Out of Gas" when everyone flies off in the shuttles and Mal sits down in the cockpit alone and covers up with a blanket. It's just so...stark.

And of course the end of that episode when he wakes up with the others around him, and the scene where he first sees Serenity.

Out Of Gas left me with mixed feelings

"Love. You can do all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air you
don't love, she'll shake you off sure as a turnin' of worlds. Love keeps her in
the air when she oughtta fall down. Tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens.
Makes her a home." Mal

The Message, of course, the scene of them bringing him to his parents on that desolate cold rock.

And I bawled all the way through Objects in Space just because it was the last one and I did not want it to be over. I still don't want it to be over. I may hunt down and damage some Fox executives. They never even gave it a chance, shuffling it around, playing episodes out of sequence, pre-empting it, not showing the pilot, making them change the very nature of the show - EVIL IDIOTIC HUMPS!
