LADYSERENITY

On the first time through the series all the episodes and lines previoulsy mentioned. Out of Gas and that whole part with Mal and the ship, him closing all the doors and the music only intensifies this feeling between our captain and Serenity. Then at the end his comment to the crew "you all going to be here when I wake up?" and then the look on his face when he first sees Serenity. Other episodes, Safe and all the heartbreaking lines with River and Simon, The message when Tracy is carried down in his coffin, the music is a heart wrenching goodbye to Firefly. Then in Heart of Gold when Inara is crying in her room makes me want to cry with her. She sobbs with all the pain of her broken heart. And in Objects in Space River's little speech to Simon and Early. The music in that piece always gets me choked up, the violin is sad as she says she will just 'fade away' and the look on SImon's face. THose parts get me every time. Now though they hit with a stronger feeling.
THe message because it was the last episode they shot, Objects in Space because it is the last one, and in the pilot when we get to see Serenity in hard burn to escape the feds, the light trail streaming in the black and that fantastic musical cue gets me teary eyed even now as I am writing this.

And as for the BDM well, the whole last half hour of the movie had me in tears from when Book died and on.
When I first saw it I didn't know if Joss was just going to kill every body off or what. So I am gasping in shock while crying and sniffling and praying (a very wierd combination)that not everyone is going to die. And then comes River saying it is her turn. (stifles sob) and then the final few moments of the film when Mal and River are on the bridge and that whole scene about Love keepin her in the air when she aught to fall and all that and the last few seconds we see our beloved Firefly in flight. Now that I mention it just the sight of the plastic palm trees and dinos on the console with out Wash behind them makes me cry *sniffle*

"Once you've been in Serenity you never leave. You find a way to live in it."

watching Heart Of Gold made me really sad, knowing that the next episode i would watch was going to be the last one and the music just marred my day, i couldn't stop thinking about how fox had cut the best series id ever watched! by the time i brought myself to watch the Objects In Space i was trying to convince myself that id become way too obsessed, but i cant help it, just like many of you im sure. so by the time id held back the tears i wanted to find someone from fox and hurt them in some way.

The Message right when Tracy dies and at the end, Serenity (the movie) at the end and when Wash died, and Ariel at the end when Simon is giving his sister the new medicine.

River: Is it time for me to go to sleep?
Simon: No mei-mei, it's time for you to wake up.

I can never get through that scene without crying.

"You're talking to Serenity. And Early...Serenity is very unhappy."

You know what gets me all welled up, in the BDM when you first see the Title scene,, when you see the title is really on the ship,,, just the first look of serenity on the big screen the fact that it went from a canceled master piece to our bdm,,, and the music whoa it was just perfect....

A lot of the episodes are great and I get chills in just about every one. But I would have to say The Message, especially when Joss said on the commentary that they knew by this episode they were going to be cancelled. All of our crew just standing around the grave in the cold. Very saddening and depressing.
Out of Gas was a touching episode as well.

WHY?

Because I love them so much and it makes me sad that there aren't more.

Plus, I love Mal to the sky and back.

Well, all the obvious ones. Obviously. But recently two Simon moments have made me sniffly.

The first is in the pilot, during Simon's "I am very smart" speech. He gets to the part where he talks about the academy and he says "She wanted to go. She wanted to learn." The his voice starts to break with emotion and he says. "She was fourteen." The way he says it just breaks my heart.

The second is during 'Objects in Space', when the crew argue over River's fate. The argument gets pretty heated and Simon says, in a quiet, bewildered voice, "She's just a kid." I love the way the mood changes at that moment. And it does tear me up a bit.

Apologies if I've posted this already!

The commentary on the pilot when the theme music comes on, Joss and Nathan are singing away and when they hit the "You can't take the sky from me" line you hear Joss say something like "Well I guess they could"

Not so much a teary moment as a punch an exec moment though.

In War Stories when River is saying that she hates being well, because she knows it will go away and it'll be even worse then, that gets me every time. Then also in Out of Gas when Mal says "Everybody dies alone" I also tear up in Objects in Space when River says "And I'll just fade away"...that combined with the music there is just too much. And one more is in Safe with the "You gave up everything you had to find me, you found me broken" "mei-mei everything I have is right here"
And I also sometime get sad at the end of Heart of Gold with Inara's whole speech, just because I wish those crazy kids could just work things out...
....Yeah, okay I get emotional sometimes.

Hmmm, I guess the part that choked me up the most is the end of The Message. The music there really is killer, especially because the composer meant for the music in that scene to say "Farewell, Firefly". Cuz that was one of the last scenes they shot.

I can't even think of the end of OoG when Mal sees Serenity for the first time without welling up. Hell, trying to get through this thread without getting teary-eyed was impossible.

After I saw OoG I just sat in the dark for a while (I saw it very late at night, I was trying like hell to get through the series before seeing the BDM on the big screen. I'm a nut, I must see EVERYTHING in order...), and just thought to myself, "crimeny, I think this is the best show ever. EVER."

None of the episode brought me to tears,The Message being the closes, but Serenity is a different story all together. I consider myself a pretty tuff character, but I took Books and Washs death pretty hard. That being said, Three words from Zoe, had me crying like my 7 year old after scraping her knee.

After Kaylee says, "Wait, What about Wash?

Zoe says "He's ain't comin"

It brings tears to my eyes every time.

USMCHELLRAISER

Out of Gas, primarily when Mal adopts Serenity from the Humane Society because of that look she was giving him- her viewports all big and misty...

then again when Mal is shot by the ruttin' pirates, when he already offered for them to take what they wanted...

then again when he doesn't make it to the recall button...the worst part is, you know what's coming but it still gets to you. The plot of that story was so transparent, but Joss knew it wouldn't matter- he knew we wanted to see it, and that we would feel it.

The Message- moreso now because I realize that the crew- I mean, cast- no, no, the crew found out they were cancelled and had to do the reminiscence scene at the table with that hanging over them. Also- the Walk/Crawl line, and to be honest, I've laid to rest too many young men I've served with. It's hard even when it's fictionalized.

Lastly, I still wish that they didn't let Wash go.
As for objects, I still have only seen it once. I can't watch it by myself.

Much like everyone else, I want to say the Message, because the funeral scene is for the show, and that look on Mal's face is just so devastating, but i want to reference two scenes with jayne, of all people: Jaynestown, at the end, where he is just so twisted about how it all went down, and is trying so hard to extend himself beyond his two-dimensional existence, but can only go so far, and you just know it hurts and confuses him to reach his own limitations emotionally; secondly, the end of Ariel, where jayne saves his own life by showing shame for what he did, tho God forbid in Joss's world he should ever make it so obvious.......(there is a great solo artist named Paul Westerberg, formerly of the Replacements, a great '80s punk band, and he said in an interview "I write for bright people--if you don't get it, i'm sorry, but I just can't write down"). Joss wrote this show for bright people, not for people who were looking for a ton of flash bang shoot-em-up and nail the pretty girl eye candy.

As Frank Zappa once said about Alice Cooper--"You either get it or you don't. I wouldn't even try to explain"

Just because of the fact that i didn't want to make this post the great American novel, I am breaking it up into two parts:

in Heart of Gold, when the scene flashes to Inara sobbing her guts out, that got me, mostly becuase of how it was done out--no introduction, no seeing her face break into tears, just BAM! in your face emotion that told the whole season's worth of story about how she felt for Mal. It was in-your-face and yet understated at the same time, and Joss left it up to us to figure out what it all meant.

Again, Joss wrote the show for bright people, hence its inevitable demise.

Did that sound cynical?

Sad teary:

The Message
Every time Tracey dies after the run/crawl/carry quote
Every time they carry Tracey off the ship and that beautiful sweet music sweeps in

Jaynestown
Every time Jayne tries to understand why the Mudder would die for him

BDM

Every time River falls to her knees on Miranda while begging God to make her a stone
Every time they watch the medic's video on Miranda
Every time Mal gives his "someone has to speak for these people"- speech
Every time Wash dies
Every time Simon tries to talk after being shot, especially since I heard the commentary where Joss says Summer couldn't stop crying and they had to wait for her to recover before doing Sean's coverage.

(I cry a lot)

ANGRY teary:

Every time I think of the absolutely incomprehensible decision to cancell the show, and strangely enough....right now!

heart of gold kind of made me teary. Mal finally gets laid (shivers down my spine) and she dies. Out of gas also made me teary but still made laugh. The scene were shepard was praying and reading the bible and river walks by and says don't be afraid. You think you are going to run out of air, but we won't. There wasn't really one that made me cry--maybe I have no soul, but I digress.

Anyway, three moments come to mind instantly:

Out of Gas: Just the whole idea of a man staying with the one thing that links him to the freedom he lost in the world, even to its death, is a powerful one to me.

Serenity: The other two are Mal's "Aim to Misbehave" speech and Book's death sequence, espicially his last words.

Great. The first time ever I'm replying on this site, and I'm all teary from reading this topic! Thanks guys :-P Anyway, bits that made me cry:

- Safe, when Simon is trying to convince the villagers not to kill River, and then accepts his own death too
- The Message, funeral scene. Heart-breaking.
- from the BDM, when Simon and River are talking before getting to Haven and she goes slightly loopy ("bullet in the brain pan")
- from the BDM, when the crew's on Miranda and River drops to the ground and asks God to make her a stone, such a powerful moment that I can't help but shed a few tears

I think those are really it. Plenty of moments have made me uber-sad but only a few made me teary. Who knows, that might change the more I re-watch both!

My Goodness, there are so many moments throughout the show and film that bring on those emotions, i couldn't list them all.
But a few That stick in my mind.
From "Serenity", when they've found out how the Reavers were created Mal gives a speech to the crew about how the alliance will try again and again to make...people...better, and the look he gives River at that moment...It's both heartbreaking and fulfilling.

Also from the pilot episode when Mal is informed that no back-up is coming at the battle of Serenity Valley. The shots showing the alliance ships landing and then that shot zooming out as Mal just stares up and the young lad gets shot. You can see from Mals expression. He's lost all hope, for himself and for what he would describe as the free world. He doesn't duck to hide from the barrage of bullets after the boy is shot. He couldn't care less at that moment in time whether he was shot or not, in my opinion.

Also, as I saw a few times above, the scene after Aerial where Jayne is nearly sucked out of the cargo hold. Mals speech on how he stabbed him in the back. The anger in his voice and of course Jaynes sudden outburst of honour.."Make summit it...don't tell 'em what I did"
Even in death, he doesn't want to be thought of as a bad person.

Finally, and oddly enough not directly connected with the show or the film...On the special features of the Firefly DVD there's a behind the scenes featurette. And at the end Joss Whedon explains what it was to him. What this show meant. And you can really feel that that man wasn't ready to finish and you share his dissapointment. That really got me...but yeah...there ya go.

In "Bushwacked," when the camera reveals Simon and River clinging to the outside of Serenity.

They established Simon's phobia of space suits earlier the same episode, and River and he look so small and helpless. But they are alive because Mal cared enough to endanger his ship for their survival.

That's a lot of moving concepts flying around at once! I must confess some tightness of throat when I view that episode.

There are many sad moments but the episode that almost made me cry was 'Safe', the part when River is dancing, she looks so happy and carefree. I don't why that is in particular but probably because it is the first time we see her like that and its sad because it reminds Simon perhaps of the sister he had - and still has but now with government interference.

They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see sky, and they remember what they are.

To be honest, just about anything by River. Then when Kaylee is threatened in Objects in Space. That fear was too real. If genius in this medium is drawing someone 100% into some kind of alternate reality then genius is at work here.

A copper for a kiss.
