Will it?

Joss if you are reading this I hope you find it in your heart to give use what we want. Take your time, we will wait forever if that's the case.

It won't. I'm sorry. I really really really really wish it would, but it won't. If it was, it would have by now. Even direct to DVD movies, like Babylon 5, or Star Trek. The actors have moved on, and Joss Whedon's stock seems to have fallen quite a bit in Hollywood. Now I'm sure I'll get tons of angry responses, and personally, I'd pay about $2,000.00 just to see a new film, show, etc. I've bought everything I could twice, turned friends onto the series, but it doesn't seem to matter. And it doesn't make sense. They could do 4-6 cable movies a year, with a $10M budget, and make that back easy, like with the Sharpe's Rifle series in England. What this takes is the backing of someone important at a studio. And there isn't that backing. Someone at Universal liked Joss Whedon, and gave Serenity a chance. That person either feels burned by its lack of monetary success (read excessive profit, not just break even), or that person is no longer there. Here is a list of SCI FI shows that never came back:

Space 1999
Earth 2
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Blake's 7
Seaquest
Space Above and Beyond

And can anyone explain what cruel joke the universe is playing on us, when there are not one, but two Stargates, but no Firefly: The Later Years. I have never actually met someone who watches Stargate. Ever. I think its a myth, like the moon landings.

I think it will, in the way that Star Trek NG & BSG came back - be patient, it will take a few years. Keeping a fanbase going *might* speed this up, so never lose hope.

What we need is a Browncoat to get into a position of influence with the studios or perhaps get the studio presidents kids hooked on it - I can dream

How can you say that? One of the main mesages of the show is never to give up hope! We believe that Firefly will come back because we have to.
I love the idea of getting the kids hooked on it btw....if only...

Also I watch Stargate and Stargate Atlantis. They're both brilliant but neither compares at all to Firefly.

Saying that it won't return is not some form of Heresy. I'll be a fan of the show forever. Just like I still watch Blake's 7 episodes. That is a brilliant show. Bet you don't know what it is, or even heard of it. My point. Some shows, no matter how wonderful, don't come back, no matter how much we want them to. They talked about a Blake's 7 reunion movie for years. There was even a collection taken up by fans. What really triggers these projects is someone important who likes the show, or at least is willing to listen to someone who does. Thats why the show died so quickly. The PTB at Fox thought the show was too expensive, and they weren't fans. No critical acclaim (for buzz or cache), no rising viewership, and no sponsor to see it through. So they pulled the plug. At the SCI Fi channel, Stargate is cheap, and drags in enough viewers (although I stand by my earlier moon shot analogy, I have yet to find someone who has actually watched a full episode, in person)to make SCI Fi money. Can Joss compromise his standards to make a two hour Firefly SCI-FI movie for $3 Million. Would the actors work for scale. Because if either answer is no, then they will just make Gorgoyles 2, or another of the many movies they turn out there. And no Firefly. Sorry. I'll hold here like a damned fool until Mal gets back, I promise. I'm just not going to hold my breath (and my intelligence) while I do.

I think it probably will. Maybe not with the exact same cast, maybe not soon, but we'll see more. If you're not picky about the form it takes, this is almost a certainty. We've got more comics in the works, a MMORPG is planned - and I think we'll get a series again eventually. I never understood why certain folks get a kick out of proclaiming it's death, but as long as people love the show, there's hope it will be revived.

Hey Sarge,
I love the show.
I'm pleased about the new comics.
I see and hear of new fans weekly, if not daily.
We'll be back.
new comics (already underway.)
more? surely.
As much as I love Drive, more Firefly is more to my liking.

Fighting for 5 years as I've done since the show got cancelled, after awhile you get very, very tired.

Love the show till the day I die, hate fux till eternity, and still hope in the back of my brain something will happen, some miraculous event.

But I'm so very tired.

It has nothing to do with "getting a kick" out of it. But there's faith and there's unrealistic fantasy.

The series will never be replicated, even if some network were to approach Joss wanting to bring the Verse back to television and he had (1) some concept that he liked and (2) wanted to do it.

He himself has said that Firefly can never be recreated or recaptured. That was a singular moment, and it's past.

Firefly as Firefly is gone. But we did get Serenity. But barring something unforeseen, there isn't another one of those in the pipeline either.

We will have another three-issue run of comics.

That's just the way of it. It can be angry-making, and it can be frustrating, but it also doesn't diminish what we DO have.

It doesn't mean stop loving it. And it doesn't mean stop converting people (although that should be because you simply want more people to have the experience, not because you think introducing 2 more people to it will somehow bring Firefly back).

It just means that's the real world.

Well Theonetruebix we know the case is, if not lost at least less likely, the no0bies discovering it and coming on the site everyday will be asking the question we were asking from the beggining, why is this off the air and why isn't anyone doing anything to bring it back? I know that first moment you fall in love and want to DO something to bring it back, it's noble and worthy and all kinds of shiney, but after you see the same thing asked a hundred times over and no answer can be brought up, well as I said, you begin to grow a little weary.

I think I've finally gone through all the stages of grief for this show, and I've come to the final one. Acceptance. Sad to say I know, but eventually we all must move on.

And let me stem any negative feedback I may get calling me a quitter and a Browncoat never gives up. I've held the line a looooong time, and I won't abandon it, but I won't be expecting Angels raining fire on the arrogant Cohns. Flame me an you will.

No & yes. Something will emerge. Probably will not be our BDH or our Ship or the same or similar story line. The "Firefly" 'verse is just so big the story possibilities are vast. Besides, there's money to be had here and that is what drives the business world.
I believe Universal's recent crack down on "Serenity" based products & this summers release of a "SE Serenity" are very good indications that a sequel is being strongly considered. With a sequel comes a Trilogy, it's in the contract.

'til then, we hold.

Yes.

Because I said so, and I am awesome.

It's top of my list when I become Most High Supreme Overlord of the Earth.

Seriously though, how many years of a gap was there between Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation? You never know when a franchise will start up again, and Firefly is growing more popular, not less. I still have hope.

I believe that Firefly will come back, however, lazy fans will do nothing to help it's return. In order to get a series back on the air, action will have to be taken, do what you can to get people to see the show, loan them your DVDs or donate a box set to your local library. If you're in school and are a part of a club then show the members an episode. Show it to family and friends. Write people at the studios, and in hollywood. The best way to get firefly back on the air is to show the poeple in hollywood that us browncoats are a large enough demographic to make airing the show profitable. In short, hard-core browncoats need to keep doing what they're doing, and less intense flans need to start buying merch and telling others. As time passes there can only be a greater chance that it will come back on the air.

Alright I’ve read through the posts here and I want to say that I’m not disagreeing with a lot of it . But are we browncoats are what? Yes some of what’s been said makes me very angry, but the day I start giving up will be the “Day I am not glad to be me.”

That’s just not who I am. Do I live in a fantasy world, likely, am I a rutting fool, I won’t argue that point either. But one thing I will not do is give up hope on FF or Serenity. I am an optimist. Why do I believe that there is still good in the world when the television news reports otherwise every day. I won’t hand anyone the hammer to DRIVE any nails into a coffin for Firefly. Nor will I put Mr. Whedon into a “Joss in the Box”. The verse lives . The characters live. The actors have moved on to other things. Well I for one never expected them to sit still. They are moving forward and that’s a good thing. I am a very stubborn person, very hard headed and an a$$ at times. Call me what you will. I’ve been called worse. Just ask Mrs.Z.

Anyhoo I can take it. Firefly WAS a great show and it can be again. It may never be the same, that is true but how will we ever know unless there is more. Joss may be feeling a little low ( I really don’t know what the man feels) but didn’t the series speak to us? Look back at the “Message” eps. Didn’t the commander need the help of his troops at the beginning of that show too? Malcolm Reynolds told Zoey and Tracy to pick him up. They were taking him with them. ”When you can’t run you crawl and when you can’t do that you find someone to carry you.”

Joss move on to other things? He should. But give up on Firefly he shouldn’t. I will still be here as many of you. Someone will fall in love with this show. Someone with money and the desire to see more. Is it the smart thing to do? Whose to say, but like was said in the BDM “ If you can’t do something smart, do something right.”

I could quote FF lines all day and know it will not bring FF/Serenity back. But there’s one thing I have learned in this life and that is if you sit back on your heels you get nothing. The powers that be are willing to take and not give back. They may never give the browncoats what they want but one thing they don’t want is to hear about it.That’s one thing they aren’t gonna stop from me. When they turn purple and bloated I’ll still be here telling them what they should do. And be proud to do it.

Guess I’ve finished my rant for now. Let the Z bashing begin

Lazy? I've been fighting since the beggining, since it was cancelled, and I've DONE everything your describing and more. I will keep the hope SOMETHING might happen but don't come on here and tell people who have holding the line since the beggining that they're lazy. You'll find some of them won't cotton to that description, considering it was our holding the line that got the DVD's and the movie that you fell in love with. Just a reminder to let you know how long this fight's been going. Good to see new people coming on board and relieving the troops, but just remember your not the first to want to fight for it, and you won't be the last.

Maybe it won't. Maybe it will. Canceled TV shows don't get made into feature length films that either.

We may as well keep trying though. What have we got to lose? What are they going to do? Cancel Christmas?

"With a sequel comes a Trilogy, it's in the contract."

Except the studio's option on the actors reportedly runs out in September.

"lazy fans will do nothing to help it's return"

What you're seeing here isn't laziness. Speaking just for myself, there's a rather sizable population of Browncoats out there who would look at you like you were out of your mind if you tried to call me a lazy Browncoat.

But, moving on, if you want to "get people to see the show" or "loan them your DVDs" or "donate a box set to your local library" or "Show it to family and friends" by all means do.

But do it because you believe the series and the movie are something you feel these other people should have the benefit of experiencing. Don't do it simply because You Want More.

Doing any of these things because you think it's a campaign that will result in more is simply setting yourself for the bitter fall. Doing any of these things simply because you want to bring the experience of what we already got to new people is inherently satisfying on its own.

I know I get yelled at a lot for supposedly squelching people's enthusiasm. But, in the end, the real world is a place where the decisions about Getting More are almost entirely outside of our control.

If any of these things people want to do did somehow, in the end, have an impact on Getting More, well then joy. But to do them because you think they WILL have that result?

It really is just a little bit delusional. And there's a difference between "believing unreasonably" and simple delusion.

"Firefly went on the air a few years ago and was instantly hailed by critics as one of the most cancelled shows of the year. It was ignored and abandoned, and the story should end there. But it doesn’t, because the people who made the show and the people who saw the show — which is roughly the same number of people — fell in love with it a little bit too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called unrealistic, quixotic, obsessive. In my world, they’re called Browncoats." - Joss Whedon

If a wealthy Browncoat came forward to Joss and said heres 50 million, I'll support the creation of the show for the next 2 seasons, would the show get made?

I think it stands for "Masive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game". It's like the "World Of Warcraft" series that has about 8-10 million people playing it online (never bothered myself, heard it was very addictive and I'd lose all my real friends, job etc if I had a go). I think Joss (I think it was him) said it best in the Serenity DVD Special Features:

"At what point does it stop being CPR and start becoming necrophilia?"

It's sad, but we must accept it. I've always rationalized that if you take the running times of all the eps plus the movie combined, they add up roughly to the same length as the non-extended Lord of the Rings or most other trilogies. Believe me, there are many other movies I'd love to see more of, especially LOTR, but it isn't going to happen.

I don't disagree with any of the comments stating why it's highly unlikely that we
will see a continuation of the series or movie.

Nor do I care.

It is in my nature to fight against overwhelming odds. The fights that are the
most important to me are the ones that are the most difficult. I guess I'm extremely quixotic that way.

For example, I look at the timing of the Serenity Special Edition release and think
that someone at Universal might be trying to gage the DVD buying power of the Browncoats
before the contracts run out. It may be that
an exec thinks there might be a future in Direct-to-DVD sequels.

Even if that doesn't happen, I'll still hope for more Firefly, cause that's in my nature.

After all, the line was "Done the impossible" not "Done the really unlikely" or "Done the fiscally implausible" :)

Alliance Commander: "Seems odd you'd name your ship after a battle you were on the wrong side of."

Mal: "May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

Hell yeah!!!

I don't know how or where it will happen, but I do beleive that Firefly will return in some form. The concept is great for sci-fi.

Not true, I was a big fan of Blakes 7, though Avon, Callie and Vila appealed more than Blake (I like antiheroes and complex characters). And I was one of those quixotic fans who tried to get it back. Still hoping.
