Am I imagining things... or was that OBJECTS IN SPACE deleted scene in the episode on the DVD??

If you review the two scenes carefully, you will notice the deleted scene does not refer to Inara's leaving (permanently) the ship. That scene was re-filmed when they decided to air Objects in Space before (instead of) The Heart of Gold.

RIVER
Purple elephants are flying.
MAL
Good. Thanks for the update.

Ahh... I see. Looks like I'll have to re-watch it and pay more attention

Hi Kelso,

Yes, the scene we saw on television had Inara whining about the crappy moons and planets Mal has been deciding to do jobs on...the scene played out like Mal may be intentionally making it difficult for Inara to work. However, on the DVD, Inara is making an attempt to have Mal drop her and her belongings off on the next planet or moon they are on their way to.

I watched the deleted scene from OiS before I actually watched OiS on the DVD.

I nearly panicked because I thought they had deleted this entire scene including the part where River stepped on the stick and it turned into a gun. I was extra-relieved to find that they only changed the lines at the beginning of the scene.

This scene with River in the woods inside of Serenity's cargo hold is one of the most beautiful and artistic scenes in the series.

You wrote my thoughts exactly. You can really see Summer's grace and beauty when she bends down to look at the stick. I love that shot. When I thought they had deleted that scene, I had to watch OiS to make sure everything was OK.

I have wondered if there is any relation between that scene and the one in Serenity where Inara talks about Mal being " Lost in the woods " and liking it that way. River has a strange relationship with Mal, I keep noticing it more and more as I watch my DVDs.

" Thats not fair !!!!
I didn't even have a soul when I did that!"
