YINYANG

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

As written in her latest blog ( http://www.fireflyfans.net/showblog.asp?b=6434):

"I have been having trouble with my account for over a week now - I can only login from the main page, and I can't reply to any threads (it logs me out and redirects me to the login page when I try to) and I can't view profiles. It took me several tries to log in and make it to posting a new entry here. I changed my email address in the system, because my school email is going to expire - but I did it on my profile page, so I didn't expect it to cause any problems. I don't know who to contact, or how to contact them, but it's sad not being able to participate."

Would anyone know why she is having this problem, and/or how to fix it? Anyone? Please?

(Forgive me if someone has already sent off a message to her to help. If so, hijack away.)

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

No idea. I changed my e-mail on here before and had no problem. I don't know Haken's e-mail, either, but I know plenty of people on here have gotten in touch with him, and I'm sure the info is somewhere. I'll look.

So many things it could be. Try checking the cookie settings, and clearing the cookies. Also try using a different browser.

What Net Browser are you using? The deleting cookies idea is a good one to try. Could be if it is IE 7 that one of the plug ins are missing. try an update (stupid new programs and their stupid updates). I uninstalled IE 7 cuz it is just not compatible with a lot of sites.

Has it only been accessed from 1 PC or are there multiple that are causing an issue? If it is multiple then Haken would probably need to be contacted.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: One other thing to concider...... Does this site require a validation of some sort? I do not remember but if it does normally the new e-mail address will be sent a validation link that must be followed the first time the account is accessed for it to wrok properly. Maybe something as simple as that?

Hi -

I've had problems getting in, too - went to update my e-mail address, couldn't log in (being told my password is invalid). E-mailed requesting my password (using both old and new addy) only to be told I wasn't a registered user.

Soooo - reregistered, but can't use my old alias, (Jehudit) as it's already taken!

I'm not a computer person...but I keep getting warnings about the downloader.exploit.64 virus, which can - I think - allow the hacker to be logged in as me.

Just wondering if it's possible someone's up to some wickedness, and mucking about with people's accounts??

Oh - found somewhere here on the site an option to contact Haken by e-mail - but my e-mail got tossed back at me (this wasback when I could get in under the old account).

Any ideas? What's going on?

Cheers

J

Sounds like it might be a database error, honestly. It stores the password, but the code to change email addresses somehow botches up the DB entry somehow (faulty code of some kind?). Of course, this is mere speculation - please treat it as such ;)

Since db exceptions aren't handled on this site (experimental evidence shows that they aren't, period), any error in the SQL query would result in an error msg being displayed in the browser. So, that's quite unlikely.

I'm going to have to go with a cookie and/or a saved password problem as well. Or at least something specific about this person as no-one else is having problems.

Well, I wasn't referring to an actual error in the query - more of a "Oops, we put the wrong email address in the DB" or "Oops, wrong data in the DB!". But yeah, that was just a thought moreso than a "This is the answer" XD

@Athenon:

Well you did say 'database error'. These things produce exceptions (assuming the language produces exceptions; asp does) when they happen. And an error in the query is one way to get them (another being improper permissions on the db user, etc). At any rate, the error is displayed in the browser here as Haken doesn't seem to catch the exceptions (at least of the db kind). So, from what you wrote, you did refer to such things. If you meant /just/ a programming error, then please say so.

I also got that you didn't necessarily say that you said that it was /the/ problem. Because, well, you said that. I was just pointing out that it was unlikely. As /I/ said.

I don't mean to be a dick here, but please write what you mean. Because, it's all I/we got to understand what you're trying to say.
