My God how it hurts!!!

At least with Angel, and Buffy, we were allowed to move through thier worlds for more than half a season. At least Farscape took us through years of love and character Arcs.

I truly must say that TV is not my thing. I spend time painting, Drawing, riding my motorcycle and trying to discover the world. Unfortunately or fortunately I come across snippets of true love and dedication but usually expect to find it on PBS or HBO or such.

I just found Firefly after a friend turned me on to the quirkiness of Angel, and Buffy, and wish that maybe now I hadnt found it. Its almost too much to think that you could become so involved in the characters, their personal being, in such a short number of 40 minute stints. Now I find that the show has very little or no chance of being made past a movie or two and know in my heart that that is cold solace for my interest in the plight of the crew of Serenity.

Its sad to see people sacrificing living their own reality to be replaced by watching a "reality" program. All have seemed to forget that true entertainment such as Firefly makes us look at reality and the human condition in so much of a broader context than so many other pieces of tripe that are out there.

But in the end the axiom of "Follow the Money" has won out over a wonderful ensemble program.

Sad, I think I will take my Ducati out for a ride,

Andrea

p,s, Melodramaticism is fun but knowing that Firefly and its fine cast of creators will not be able to finish the masterpiece it was and was developing into is the reason I stopped watching tv as a medium,

Seems as like this site is support group more than anything. There is a lot of real frustration and disappointment talked over due to Firefly's cancellation.

I take comfort in knowing the series never went bad, as many series do when they are on the air too long. So mostly I drink habitually and count down the days until the movie hits the screen.

Oh yeah, having a local shindig helps. Comiseration, wierd if not interesting people, and someone will know how to cook!

Write fanfic! Then Serenity and her family will be right in your own living room (or wherever you keep the computer, or the yellow pad, or the notebook...)

Yes Yes I know but now you see what happens when you come home from being at a club and having access to a forum can do. I agree melodramatic but would have been seen more tongue in cheek if only the Electrons would have cooperated.

Still the show is really well done, err was well done, and intriquing on many levels. Will miss it and wish that if the movie suceeds beyond any sense of the word(which I dont think will happen) that maybe someone will pick it up as a series.

Hell if they are thinking of making VAN Helsing a series JESUS CHRISTI !!!!!

take it any way you can get it,
Andrea

step 1: Admitted you were powerless over decisions made by Fox executives.

step 2: Came to believe that Joss could restore our faith in mass media. Or at least get a movie out to us. AND have a reeaalllly long gag reel on the Serenity DVD when it comes out.

step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Joss as we understood him.

step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the tv listings.

step 5: Admitted to God, ourselves and everyone on FFF.net the exact nature of Fox's wrongs.

step 6: Were entirely ready to have Joss remove the defects (if any) of the movie during editing and post production.

step 7: Humbly asked Joss to let Mal be nekkid at least once in the BDM.

step 8: Made a list of all persons who have not seen Firefly and became willing to tie them up if need be to..."introduce" them to the show.

step 9: Made direct converts of such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. And maybe even then, if necessary.

step 10: Continued to do guerilla marketing techniques in Best Buy, Borders Books, Circuit City and assorted video rental outlets, and when the DVD was hidden away, promptly displayed it at eye level.

step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our freakish knowledge of every iota of each episode so as to win the Firefly trivia contests at each shindig.

step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry The Message (and all the other episodes) to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. While simultaneously attempting to actually live a life, work and pay bills when possible.

Syrengurl,

I don't know what to tell you. I've never felt such an emotional involvement in a television show. Twin Peaks was good, but I felt no personal pain when it was cancelled. But when it slowly became clear that Firefly would not be continued as a series, I fell into a pretty serious funk - mad at the world, TV, etc. in the same way Mal was mad at God.

I've watched very little TV in the last ten years and my experience with Firefly has me pretty much swearing off TV entirely. (Although I will admit that my kids have convinced me to sit down to watch the Daily Show on occasion.) There's something very special going on there on that ship.

I don't know if you were a fan back when the show was cancelled, but there's an excellent essay on the experience of its downfall. It's a really poignant example of what so many of us went through. Check it out here.

It might provide you some solace to know you aren't the only one who mourns the shows demise.

It most definitely was that good.

I came to the show late. Very late. This summer, in fact. And I've been head over heels since first viewing the 'Serenity' pilot. I've been getting into the fandom slowly... and it breaks my heart to read essays like the one you linked to. Thank you for linking to it, by the way...

This show moves me, it inspires me -- my mother (who never really liked science fiction) and I watch at least one episode every couple of days together. We've not had a show to share in a real long time.

I love these characters, I love Joss' writing, I love everything about this show and I cannot wait for the movie. I love this site, because it reminds me that I'm not the only one who does... and that the other fans I've met so far are absolutely awesome people, dreamers who believe in things that matter.

Wow, I've babbled a fair bit... but yes. I can sum it up: It surely was that damn good.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same
