I just noticed that over the weekend the visitor counter hit the half a million mark.

During that period, we've also had:

1881 people became members.
201 news items reported.
30 features.
1632 message threads started.
15869 message posted.
354 reference items added.
174 episode reviews written by members.
97 fanfics published by members.
1058 taglog entries posted.
40 fansites registered.

Not bad for a small site.

Whoa.

Half a million fans are still talking about the wonderfulness of Firefly months after it's been taken off the air... looks like you missed out Fox... should of kept it.

Whoa indeed.

But that still leaves 2 point something million fans that are not attending this site. Firefly's average viewing was in the 2 million range.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Guess we need to work harder to make people aware of the site.

Props to Haken for the wonderful work on the site.

Do you think that hits on this site may show anyone worthwhile that there are still lots of Firefly fans?

I know I have the fox.com/firefly site as my homepage in the hopes that I will add hits to it just in case someone thinks to check.

Congratulations! Is that half a million 'unique' visitors, or if I come visit every day for a week, does that increase the visitor counter seven times?

That's number of visits (sessions). On the average, I get about 2000 unique visitors a day.

For example, here are yesterday's stats:

Hits for Entire Site: 118,245
Page Views: 13,660
Total Visitors: 3,044
Unique Visitors: 2,250
Visitors Who Visited Once: 1,869
Visitors Who Visited More Than Once: 381
Average Visit Length: 00:12:38
Median Visit Length: 00:03:11
International Visits: 10.11%
Visits of Unknown Origin: 17.44%
Visits from United States: 72.43%

The only numbers that are really important, at least to me, is the number of page views and the number of visitors. Page views gives me a rough idea as to the amount of load the server is under.

Unlike many fansites out there that serves up static pages, FIREFLYFANS.NET's webpages are dynamically generated because all contents are stored in a database and are retrieved only when an user requests a page. So when a lot of people hit the site, I get a bit worried because I don't want the database server to melt.

Based on past experience, when this site was slashdotted last year and survived, I know the site can handle well over a million transactions a day without melting.

Anyway, don't want to bore everyone with tech-talk. It's just really cool.

Hmm. Interesting.

--------------------------------------------------
DOBSON: Okay. I can see you're not an idiot.

DOBSON: I'm supposed to be meeting my wife's sister. I've only got a few days to see her...

ZOE: I wish there was another way...

DOBSON: Oh, no, no. That woman is like a dragon. I mean, I believe she has a tail. If there's any other moons we need to visit, or if we could just
fly very slowly...

That is an IMPRESSIVE set of stats!!

Congrats!! Lets hope that stats like this will eventually filter through to Fox and they'll either rethink their decision or let Joss take it elsewhere!!

Now... if only I could figure out why it takes me to attempts to load the fireflyfans.net domain. It ALWAYS times out the first one.

Haken,

do you slice the stats by incoming geography
as well?

Would be interesting to see where people are
coming from outside of the US.
