According to an email sent to FIREFLYFANS.NET from the staff at 'Firefly DVDs to the Troops,' money raised to purchase 120 DVDs for US troops overseas has now cracked the $2000 mark. While about $400 more is needed to purchase the DVDs themselves, more funds are needed to purchase the necessary mailing pouches and labels required to send the DVDs on their way.

If you would like to contribute to the fund, you can go here for more info:

Actually, we should be giving the DVD's to Iraqi's. Then they would watch TV instead of fight back.

Hi all! Been a while since I posted, but thought I'd let you all know how I've done my part for Firefly AND for the troops overseas!

I'm a civilian contractor for the US Army, currently stationed in Kuwait. A generous FireFlyFans member loaned me her copies of the Firefly episodes on DVD when I left back in August. I've loaned those DVDs to several soldiers at my site.

Several of them pre-ordered the boxed set for December, and when one of the PX's locally was spotted carrying the set, it sold out within a week (there were at least 20 sets there).

Just an FYI!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

DVDs for the troops is such a great idea. I think it is great to do something for the men & women overseas.

Good news indeed Scotti. Very cool of you to loan the set to the troops. Hopefully we will have a new batch of Browncoats coming back stateside soon.

Very mature.

Perhaps you would care to take that to some "anti-American"/anti-war board or something.

Hey, that's not fair. It's very wrong to imply that anti-war is anti-American.

I don't think that's what BrownCoat1 meant - serenityuk's comments were both anti-war and anti-American so that's the sort of board BrownCoat1 was pointing him/her to.

Yes, because the troops are the ones who have taken it apon themselves to leave thier families, fly halfway around the world and have a little camping trip in the middle of the desert. How could I have missed that obvious conclusion.

If you want to be pissed off at someone about this war, you're anger is painfully missdirected. Get mad at Bush and company. Actually, since it sounds like you are British, you should get REALLY mad at Tony Blair, for being Bush's lapdog.

Supporting TROOPS has nothing to do with supporting the war. Grow up or go somewhere else.

- MrGreen, Army Reservist on the move to destination unknown in March.

PS Calling US troops in Iraq 'Baby Killer's' is the STUPIDIST thing I think I have ever heard. For the most part the civilian casualties are being caused by Iraqi insurgents with IEDs (improvised explosive devices) that go off when some 10 year old pokes it with a stick by accident.

What you have said does not even make any sense

Supporting TROOPS has got everything to do with the war. If you join the forces and kill people with your bullets or press that button to drop bombs you are as guilty as Bush and Blair.

Don't give me that rubbish about going around the world, your GI Joe's know exactly what they are doing when they sign up.

Giving them DVD's, i have heard it all now.
Your $2000.00 could go a long away to more worthy cause.

Even if it is to stop even more killing, even if it is to stop a dictator from killing his own people?

You don't like the war, and well, that just makes you sane. But until you have a workable alternative, you show a blantent disregard for your own safety, (i.e. your very life) as well as the lives of the Iraqi civilians. Pacifism is a great thing, (although the particularly militant way you express it seems odd,) but there are folks out there, that for whatever reason, want you, me and the rest of the Western world dead.

You either fight them, kill them, or die. Or, in your case, hide behind those you despise and spit on, to protect and defend your life, as well as liberate an entire captive nation of people.

But the biggest problem is really with your presentation. It does make you look like a raving, angry and irrational person, someone with low crediablity. For those of us who support this war, you are one of our best allies.

Exactly what I meant. I did not think it would be interpreted any other way.

I am against war, but I think I am a little more qualified than most to have that opinion as I have been in one & seen the horrors first hand. Everyone should be anti-war, unless of course it is for a good cause. Guess what SerenityUK, freeing an oppressed people who's dictator test biochemical weapons on them, who steals money for food and medicine sent by the UN to build himself his 13th palace while they live in hovels is a damn good cause.

Ahmen to that MrGreen.

Supporting the troops does not mean supporting the war. Wanting your men & women in uniform to come home in one piece to the people that love & miss them is not the same as backing a war.

I was in the Special Forces & served in Desert Shield & Desert Storm. I didn't want to go, & I didn't want to leave my family. I did it because that was my duty, and my CiC said I had to go. I am sure that the men & women there now, who were in the desert sitting at Christmas time would have rather have been home w/ their families.

"Baby Killer". That is the most uneducated, idiotic thing I have ever heard spewed by a Troll. I served in Kuwait & Iraq for more than a year during the 1st Gulf War & I never saw a dead baby or child, and I sure as hell never saw any Coalition soldier shot or hurt a child.

What I did see were malnurished children, children who told us they were scared of their dictator and his troops.

If Baby Killer can be hung around anyone's neck, it is Saddam Hussein who ordered the chemical attack on the Kurds in northern Iraq.

What are you? 16 years old? Why is so bloody hard to understand that supporting the troops, trying to make their lives in a foreign land, thousands of miles from home & loved ones, is not the same as being in support of the war? Could you really be so blinded by rage against the war that you can not see the difference?

No one here has said they hope the US Troops are killing lots of Iraqis. No one here has done anything except pray for the comfort & safe return of the troops.

I suppose if we listened to you, we should have left Saddam and his insane sons in charge of Iraq. Have you read any of the horror stories coming out of Iraq on CNN? Have you read how people who disagreed w/ Saddam & the Bathh party were thrown in prisons that made sewers look clean in comparison after watching their families tortured and sometimes raped or killed. Maybe you missed how they Saddam's sons used to pick a woman off the streets at random, took her home, raped her repeatedly & then tossed her out in the street, threatening to kill her family if she told anyone. Maybe you missed how his son in charge of athletics tortured and killed atheletes who failed to win at the Olympics. All of this went on & the United Nations & no country in the world did anything about it. Probably too worried what radical, rabid, anti-war protestors would do if they did lift a finger to stop the madness.

Like MrGreen said, if you want to be mad & lay blame, lay it at the doorsteps of the right people. Lay it in the laps of the Bush administration, Blair, and Saddam & his party. Lay it in the laps of the U.N. for not stepping up to the plate & doing it's damn job of policing the world. Lay it in the laps of every single human being who watches the news or reads a paper that did not express outrage at what Saddam was doing to his people. Lay it in the laps of the Iraqi people for not rising up to throw off their tyrant.

As for our "GI Joes" (do people really call them that???) "know exactly what they are doing when they sign up", yes, they know what might be asked of them someday. Like all of us though, they hope they are never called to leave their families behind, and to go off to a foreign land & give their lives for someone they do not know, because some politician tells them they have to do so. I know I didn't want to, and I am sure the men & women there now do not want to, but it is their duty. They took an oath, and honor and duty will not let them do otherwise. They doesn't mean they are indiscriminately killing innocents or "babies".

Well said Drakon!

Drakon is 100% correct in what he says. There are people in this world that will kill you in the most horrible way they can imagine simply because you are from the U.S. or the U.K. They will kill you because you look different, or because you are not of the same religion. When the time comes you have to decide to fight & live, or curl up in a ball & die, or beg for your life and most likely die.

I find it ridiculous that you curse the very soldiers who would gladly give their lives to protect you and your way of life. They know what honor, duty, courage, and selflessness means. It seems that some of the world are still not familiar with those terms. What I find sickening is that if your country were to be invaded tomorrow, people who are anti-war protestors would be the first to beg the military to do something to protect them.
