So I read today that all of the new scripted shows put on the air by network TV had performed very poorly in the ratings. Conversely, the dreaded hellish invention of reality TV contained the only new series launched that performed well.

Now, I know no one here is a huge huge fan of reality shows in general, so I'm preaching to the converted. However, I can't believe that Network Executives haven't seen the writing on the wall yet. Reality TV appeared, took off, viewers started migrating in mass to cable networks etc so now the only thing able to perform well on networks is Tada: REality TV. Especially since any decent drama/comedy is a clone of an earlier version.

I know, not much in the way of discussion, but well there is always the chance that someone out there involved in programming choices might lurk and get a clue. Or something. Cause quite frankly, I've pretty much stopped watching TV since I got my box set!

In my opinion Reality TV has peaked and is going down hill, as far as popularity is concerned. I think there were only a few good ones, if that. But everyone I know, even those that like 'em, has been getting a little sick of all the reality shows. I'm hoping that pretty quickly here it'll phase out.

I don't think that the general public has gone off scripted shows so much as gone off of television in general.

All the market research about reality TV taking over always has a blurb about more men playing their playstation's or surfing the internet.

Reality TV is exciting to audience's because of the interactive voting element - they can choose the outcome of the show while watching all of the bitching and backstabbing that all of the "characters" don't get to see. It's attractive to the networks because they get money for every audience member who rings up and helps make that decision.

People got bored with what was on offer - now they're into this - then they'll get bored and want something a little less real and a little more shiny. (We can only hope).

But then again documentary movies have been doing very well at the box office lately so I could be wrong and people want to see a "real" slice of life.

Reality TV shows - don't watch and have no intention of joining the masses anytime soon. If thats entertainment!. I also dont watch an awful lot of TV in general now, a few shows that I tune in for regularly but for the most part I find TV boring.
It has crossed my mind from time to that maybe its just that many folks have lost the art of conversation and for lack of something better to do they watch that reality nonsense.
I know i spend more time online now that ever did in the past. Not convinced about the playstation/gamecube thing. I think thats just another excuse for not being able to converse with those around you.

I am a fan of reality tv shows, but i am only a fan of the non-trashy shows, shows that seem to have a point like American Idol, Survivor and The Apprentice, other than those three i'm pretty much an anti-reality tv show person, i think the Swan is fairly retarded, as well as shows like Forever Eden and Paradise hotel (look they're all FOX shows!). I don't watch the bachelor and think shows where a woman's only role is as the slut or the bitch are aweful.
