The latest trailer for Firefly titled "Event" is available for download on the Official Firefly Website. This trailer is by far the best yet.

OK, they're finally starting to do trailers that have something to do the actual show. Still no sign of any Asian characters, despite constant references to them from other sources.

This is interesting: at least half the spaceships-in-flight scenes seem to occur against a blue, cloudy background, not in deep space. And unless I missed it (quite possible) there are no shots of Reaver ships in deep space. That would be consistent with the theory I was ranting about before -- in the FFverse, intercepting a ship in deep space is difficult-to-impossible, and piracy tends to occur as ships are entering or leaving the planetary atmosphere. Which is actually pretty good science.

Well the trailers have been out for a while now but I did not watch any of them with sound until recently. Hey I have seen the Pilot why watch the trailer.

Well today I did watch the trailer as it was aired on my station while I was running it!

It was the event trailer I believe and it really pissed me off. They are doing the classic Hollywood thing of making the trailer totally misleading and not relevant to the actual plot of the episode.

Almost every shot from the trailer is from the pilot episode labeled Serenity, the ending quick montage of pics are not from the pilot.

The first thing that pissed me off is the music in the trailer is not the show music, they have the classic action genre music going and that is not FF music. I loved the FF music because it was so different than every other action series.

Then we get to the editing. They edit the trailer to make you think the whole episode is about them protecting and even risking their life for River, this could not be farther from the truth. They don't even know who or what River is in this episode.

And all the action from the entire show was edited into one sequence to make it look like the show is action packed.

There is relatively little action only about two intense scenes. But they edited every scene where a character shoots a gun or the Reavers chase the Serenity to make it look like one big action fest.

Believe me it is good, but it is not a thrill a minute roller coaster.

And of course they edited all the dialouge out of context to make it look like Mal is desperate to sacrifice all for River, when he doesn't even know her in this episode.

They did not need to do this, the show is great and it will stand on it's own but I would hate for you guys to go into it thinking one thing and see another.

And on a side note they do run into other ships in space, even the Reavers.

And yes you did see correctly the scenes of the ships are shot in the atmosphere as the Reavers chase the Sernity.

Out....................

All are welcome at http://theannex.curvedspaces.com

So what? The various previews are meant to peek the interest of the largest audience possible (mostly young males) by throwing in all the quick, cool shots and dialogue. And each trailer tackles a different angle -- "No Question" focuses on Mal's rogueishness, another plays up the humor, and so on. They all excite me, and I'm sure excite many potential viewers.

Kelly on the official site said that everyone cheered "Event" when they screened it on set. And Joss played it at Comic-Con. They must not have felt it was misleading.

What *would* be misleading and pretty unwise would be to make a preview reflecting the atmospheric sensibility of the 2-Hour Pilot, when the *show*, which will kick off not with "Serenity," but with "The Train Job" has since *changed* in format by becoming much more action-packed.

And from now on, when you mention details of the 40-min preview you saw, could you please spoiler font that. Thanks.

--- Joe

Spoiler space is great on usenet but it's a bit pointless on here when some of us use the linear board and have to scroll down anyway. Please use spoiler tags in future - thanks.

Which is exactly what I want! I don't want something that gives away the plot - I want something that gives me a flavour for the show without revealing too much detail.

Well let me just say you will have no idea what the real show is about or the plot by watching that trailer, so do not be upset if you are disapointed the show is not what you wanted.

If I read a spoiler tag, I expect to see Spoilers! I don't want to know the next meeting of the society of Flat Earth. If you have something to say that you want to limit to a few people or just a private message, use email. That's what it's for.

When I watch a teaser trailer, I expect to be teased. That is the purpose of trailer. If you want to see the entire show in 30 seconds of clips, watch highlights from last nights football game.

Once you've been in Serenity, you never leave. You just learn to live there. --Firefly script

CSM never gets tired of reminding us that he got to go to an advanced screening. It's getting a little old, actually.
