Hey guys, this is a cross-post from DC's site. I thought some of you might know more about it so I created an account.

"Apparently it's been making the rounds on Tumblr and Facebook that one of Gina's PR people let slip at a party that in addition to being cast as the voice in Wonder Woman in the DC Universe MMO, she has also been tapped to play her in the upcoming television show on NBC. I made an account on here cuz I figured you guys would have a better scoop on whether or not this is true. Who knows? They've been rebranding WW a lot lately, seems like a solid of a choice as any to me."

David E Kelley just had his script for a Wonder Woman TV show picked up, so it's possible.
Given it's David E Kelley, I assume it's going to be some variety of Ally-McBeal-turned-crimefighter, but if Gina gets it, well, that would be awesome-sauce.
/I am enjoying Harry's Law. Needs a better lead-in though :/ Bad match-up there.

I doubt it. I would love it. I would very much love it. I had her on my top three list back during the movie talk.

Quite frankly, I don't hold out much hope. The Bionic Woman reboot sucked. Smallville has just been GAH for the DC universe. They had to rewrite his entire history to make that show workable (not to mention the crap acting by half the cast---you know who I'm talking about). I wish him luck even if I'm not a Kelly fan.

I want to watch WW.

I want it to be good.

I'd be shocked if this were true. I mean people (including me) balk at superhero casting where the person doesn't quite look the part. Gina's kinda black. I don't know if there's a universe in DC where wonder woman is black, but it sure isn't the traditional wonder woman. A choice like that would probably alienate a good portion of the fan base and probably a lot of the casual superhero fans. I just can't see that happening.

@Zeek - I can see what you are saying about wanting someone who LOOKS the part, but something tells me (assuming these rumors are even true, after all Gina apparently has been cast in a USA pilot that may get picked up as well) that this show probably won't be marketed towards the hard-core comic books crowd. Speaking as someone who personally doesn't care over-much for superheros and all that as a general rule, all I would want out of a show like this would be for it to be fun, and cast a lead actress I would enjoy watching. Gina certainly fits the latter requirement.
But again, given the relatively recent news about her USA pilot, I do sort of doubt this rumor...

I'm only casually familiar with the DC universe, but I caught a bit of what I think was justice league with my little half brother and the Green Lantern was black. I remember vaguely from some old cartoon like superfriends or something Green Lantern was not black, but then again there's been like what, 3, 4 different Robins? So was that a different green lantern? Could this be a different Wonder Woman?

Concerning DC universe, I know a little about batman and superman and not much else. However, Gina's my favorite amazon warrior woman, so I hope it's true!

There are more than one green lantern. One of them is black. That's the one in the justice league cartoons.

I think Gina could make a fantastic Wonder Woman and I'm all for it, with the usual caveat that the show complete its run precisely in time for Ms. Torres to transition smoothly into the next chunk of Firefly/Serenity production. :)

There have been multiple Green Lanters - it's a whole intergalactic police force. And there have been several Robins (they're on the 5th official one, I think). Hell, there are two Batmen now (one being the original Robin) - but only one Wonder Woman.

Acually, there've been two: Artemis (another amazon and Diana's teacher/sparring partner) briefly took over the role once while Diana was unavailable. She barely counts though, since she was still just "Artemis in a Wonder Woman costume."

Though, based on what I've been hearing about this show, it has as much to do with Wonder Woman as that Halle Berry movie did with Catwoman. It sounds more like Ally McBeal With Superpowers.

I wasn't aware of that, but yeah, just someone else wearing the costume. Like Superman has filled in for Batman a couple times.

Yep. I read the pilot synopsis this morning, and lost all interest.

Diana, Artemis, Hippolyta, and Donna have been WW at various times.

Artemis won the WW position for a short time in the 90s. She has since become the new trainer for young heroines like Wonder Girl and Super Girl.

Hippolyta acted as WW twice but really just once (stupid time travel). After Artemis died (she's alive now), Hippolyta was WW as punishment for her role in her death and Diana's death. She was WW during WWII.

During the year the Big Three disappeared, Donna stepped in as WW until Diana picked up her lasso again. Donna's powers are not the same as Diana's, but no one but the supes knew the difference.

The perfect Amazon role for Gina? My fave Amazon, Phillipus. She's the Chancellor and General of the Amazons. The best fighter and strategist on the island and the Queen's closest friend. She trained Diana.

What Would Mal do ?

what a shame... I could easily see Gina doing a great job...she's got a charming smile, she can go happy/fun/pleasant, then get snotting/snarly in a split..she can be domineering and admonishing...she's got a nicely balanaced physique..

so..hard core comic fans..maybe not..has to be a barbi doll white girl with long black hair..but I really think Gina would have done tribute to the role.
I'm thinkin they should bring back Carter, as the mom, and cast what's her name from Chuck (his sister)..as her daughter...man do they look alike!

anyway..love you Gina...there's no black or white in my book..you're a charming lovely and talented actress.. I wish the best for you in your career.

See I really don't see it as a race issue though. I mean what if they gave Superman a green and white suit in the new movie instead of the red and blue? Fans would be up in arms. It's his iconic look.

Or what if they hired a guy to play wonder woman? Would that be sexist to say it's a bad choice? I don't think so.

The character is what it is. Unfortunately for Gina the character is a white woman.

That being said it's not impossible for them to make a change like that. It would just mean they have to do an even better job of writing to bring back the fans that get upset over it.

Honestly, I'm kinda glad Gina's not gonna be associated with this. It has "trainwreck" written all over it.

Ok, link not working (it won't let me capitalize her name) but the article is about Yo-Saf saying to be Wonder Woman was her childhood dream...

Uh, isn't casting someone unknown a show of imagination??

Oh... you mean they didn't do what YOU wanted, and thus they are disqualified... Got it.

Seriously though - she never had a chance. And not because of race, but because of age. They were never going to cast a 40-something Wonder Woman, simple as that.

Wow, a little pissy tonight, eh?

I meant imagination as in they picked somebody stereotypical(boring little white girl), I really could care less either way, since I always thought Wonder Woman was dorky and I was just making conversation...

Technically Gina is a dark-skinned Latina. Wonder Woman is a member of an Amazon tribe. While clearly the original DC version was inspired by the Greek idea of the Amazons, semantically I'm not seeing a problem here.
