So, like everyone, I've been following the latest moves of the FCC against Howard Stern. Really just figured it was a passing phase that had entertainment value until I read the editorials in the NYTimes today (see title etc at bottom). Reading the new definitions and plans of the FCC, I began to ask myself, "Can Joss really ever bring Firefly back to TV if this becomes institutionally accepted?" I mean, we all love how he uses chinese to get around the censors and the creation of new curse words. Especially in light of the fact that
Quote:

The commission states, at the end of a list of vague categories of forbidden speech, that it will "analyze other potentially profane words or phrases on a case-by-case basis."
.

This type of attitude really scares me. It looks like some very conservative people are trying to force us back to the old age of I Love Lucy and such. And somehow, I don't think that even cable will totally escape this censorship.

Thoughts? Comments??

Fighting for Free Speech Means Fighting for . . . Howard Stern
By ADAM COHEN
The F.C.C. is using Howard Stern's arguable taste as a cover for a whole new approach that throws out decades of free-speech law.

Well, it will eventually be brought to the Supreme Court and ruled Unconstititional. In fact many of FCC censorship ruling have been later ruled Unconstitutional by a lower court.

Trust me. This won't last long. It is a clear violation of freedom of speech and expression. It will eventually get struck down.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

IMHO, I agree that the First Amendment is an absolute that must be protected, come hell or high water. However, if some of these Entertainment personalities were not trying so hard to push the edge of the envelope, then maybe the dolts at the F.C.C. would not now be rearing their lethargic heads. People in the Entertainment biz really need to start pushing a higher-quality product, and I don't just mean getting rid of reality shows either. The only way to keep the fascist clowns in the Government off their backls is to police themselves. If they fail to do so, then the whiny loudmouths who are offended by everything and anything will get their way, and that's legislating speech. Just some food for thought...

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

Oh yeah, you, FOX TV!!
