MOVIEFONE.COM - "The Avengers" doesn't open until May 4, but director Joss Whedon is already thinking of the sequel. Contrary to the usual Hollywood dictates, Whedon told SFX UK (via Digital Spy) that he'd like to go smaller, not bigger for a follow-up. I wonder if Marvel thinks the same way? If he starts saying insane things like "spend less money", he may be replaced. Then again "STAR TREK" became a classic not because of Special FX, but because of brilliant writting.

Trouble is, you can't quantify brilliant writing --budgets are relatively easier to understand: "more zeroes = better."
