EW.COM - Moviegoers assembled! Disney’s The Avengers debuted to a gargantuan $80.5 million on Friday, including $18.7 million from Thursday midnight showings, according to early estimates.

That gives the $220 million Marvel superhero film the second-largest opening day ever, behind only last year’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, which earned $91.1 million its first day. It also means that the opening weekend record, also held by Deathly Hallows — Part 2 with $169.2 million, is in jeopardy. Depending on how well The Avengers holds up on Saturday and Sunday, the movie will finish the weekend somewhere between $160 million and $200 million. My guess at this point: a record-breaking $180 million...

I seen it yesterday and enjoyed it. It has some very Josh dialogue moments to the movie that are very funny. I am hoping this movie does very well. So Josh can get more work and I would like to see Scarlett get to do a Black Widow movie.

It's "Joss", hon. Like "Hoss" witha J. Everybody gets it wrong at first

I'm glad we didn't get to see it last night, today was better with the getting comics. (and boy! was our local shop swamped) I'll give Joss the distinct honor of saying it has absolutely been YEARS since I went to the theater and didn't even notice I was there, which was interesting since it was almost 2 and a half hours of sitting and I usually can't physically sit through a complete hour, let alone 2...

Totally were some FF moments in there, at one point I just wanted to scream "Get everybody inside the vault!!" Captain America sure reminds me of Not-yet-jaded Mal, fer sure...

And yeah, even if you don't have a clue who anybody is you will completely get it. Really good, really funny! When Hulk says "Puny Gods..." Our entire theater was clapping and just rolling with laughter...
We all had a good time

Yep.......I think you have something there. I bought tickets early online and went to the theatre - once I got there all the early evenings shows after 5:00 pm were Sold Out until the 10:40 and Midnight shows. They had both 3D and regular showings and all were gone by by time I arrived at 5:00 pm for a 5:20 pm screening. The multiplex theatre had 6 screens (out of 14) dedicated to the Avengers. So I won't be surprised if it does go Gonzo and breaks all kinds of records for a non-holiday weekend - $180M is not out of the question. Clever dudes, these guys in Hollywood. First they release CITW, to get the ball rolling, then they roll out the red carpet for the Avengers......this could be very good for our favorite Geek director, Joss. If all goes well, they may green light a second Serenity project, ya' know wanting to cash in on all the success and cashy-money flying about.

PS - I had to refund my tickets because my son had a last minute change in schedule. We're going tomorrow, Sunday and man am I pumped to go see this! Browncoats Unite! Go see this in theatres if you can, let's send Universal a strong message. We want Serenity 2 & 3.

SGG

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I'm going to see it today

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

Well as of today The Avengers has set a new opening weekend record already after only it's second day. Breaking the 200 mil mark in the US and another 440 mil oversea's after 8 days.

For those curious here is a article about it.
