SCREENRANT.COM - It’s a fact that DC Comics buffs will be forced to accept, and one that will forever haunt Warner Bros.: before Joss Whedon signed on the dotted line with Marvel and made The Avengers (2012) a household name (and billion-dollar property), he tried to make a Wonder Woman movie...

WHOZIT

The way things are going these days it's only a matter of time until "Wonder Woman" makes it to the big screen. If not by Joss than I hope by Chris Nolan or Sam Remi.

While Joss seems to be a natural choice to have brought WW to the big screen, part of me asks... why?

I mean, do we really NEED an outdated 40's comic strip super hero to come alive on the big screen, in the 21st century?

Of course, I didn't think Captain America would work out too well either. Now I'm a big fan. *shrug*

Well, given that between DC and Marvel's recent big-screen adaptations of their headline properties, we have had exactly ZERO female-led superhero movies, I'd say yes.

Also, Wonder Woman isn't "outdated." She's one of the Big 3 heroes of the DC Universe, a founding member of the Justice League, one of the few on Earth who could go toe-to-toe with Superman, and one of the most politically-active superheroes in the DCU (her main purpose is as a diplomat, not a vigilante).

If Batman represents Justice and Superman represents Hope, then Diana represents Truth --and in a world of illegal wiretapping, government surveillance, non-accountability, non-transparency, and where "news" means propaganda, and reporting on illegal government acts counts as treason. . . I think someone like Diana would be even more topical.

Bullet proof bracelets and the lasso of truth...sure, what ever.

But the invisible plane ? Where's THAT come into play ? ( sorry, don't know the back story to how that came about ) I mean, where does an Amazon warrior princess even get to making anything invisible, never mind a working piece of 20th century aviation !

Wonder Woman has more than that going for her. She flies the same as Superman. You would know that if you kept up with the comics.

Try to imagine that it is Joss Whedon writing Wonder Woman giving Batman a warning. Superman is at her back in the picture from Injustice - Gods Among Us (2013-) #29, DC Comics

Hold up... now she can FLY ? Since when ?

( yes, I'm showing my age / non-geekness w/ regards to W.W. and her story line here )

Linda Carter was W.W. And as hot as she was, I still didn't watch. Well, not all that much.

Wonder Woman's been flight-capable since the mid-80s --in the Post-Crisis timeline, she received her powers from the Olympians, including flight from Hermes (who also provided her faster-than-a-bullet reflexes).

There actually have been a few good Wonder Woman movies, though they're all direct-to-video.

Wonder Woman (2009):

(yes, that's Nathan as Steve Trevor)

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse:

Crisis on Two Earths:

And of course, she's also a key player in the Timmverse JLU cartoons:
