I was just wondering if anyone else has seen The Office. The original office that is. The one on NBC is pretty good too but it doesn't really compare to the British one. I watched the first season and then immediately had to go out and buy the second season and christmas special because it was so good. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

If I crash landed in the desert would I be able to eat my own shoes.

Awww... For a second there, I thought that you might be talking about one of the most obscure and brilliant (non-scifi) novels ever written, by one of the most brilliant and obscure scifi writers ever... Fredric Brown...!

I like "The Office".

When it was first aired, I could only watch part of a show: I found myself cringeing in embarrassement for David Brent, and just couldn't bear to watch it all.

gradualy I became acclimatised to the cringeing, and by the time series one was repeated I found I could watch it all.

And the Christmas specials! Oh! The final episode! Oh! I cried.

The British version was great, you really did get slowly drawn into those characters' lives. And the Christmas special...what can I say. It was special. Not only because of those characters everyone was rooting for but also the writing and performance of Ricky Gervais at the very end. The kind of subtle character writing you just don't see very often. Especially in a half-hour comedy.

HKCAVALIER

The Office is my second favorite tv show of all time (heh). But not the american version. The american version is just far too slack, satirically toothless, politically empty and completely bareable. Watching the original is actually difficult, my roommate still watches most of the episodes with her hand before her face and her eyes averted. And yes, the Christmas Special is such a satisfying ending to the torture. I own the whole thing (there is only one other tv show I can say that about).

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

It really is an outstanding comedy show with lots of good comedy situations and great acting. My favourite bit is where Gareth accuses Tim of putting his stapler in jelly and Tim nonchalantly shrugs and says "What makes you think it was me?" while eating jelly from a packet. Brilliant.

But ... no! It's ... awful! I really can't understand the hype. SOME parts are funny in what I've seen of the first two series (although I've never watched a full one, I always end up turning off its so bad), but I watched the Christmas Specials just to give it a shot, and I spent the whole time just staring at the screen thinking "I thought this was supposed to be a comedy."

I didn't laugh or even smile once during those two episodes.

I can understand where you are coming from - its not laugh out loud funny for much of it, and its humour comes entirely from the characters so if you tune in cold, it won't work.

Comedy "My Days Of Not Taking You Seriously Are Certainly Coming To A Middle" Option.

Anyway, I love the original "The Office." The American remake was like a badly done high school play version.
