Does this show really pull in more viewers than Angel did? Or is this a lame make-up call on WB's part ("we screwed up cancelling Angel, let's keep this other genre show going...") ?

The suits at WB say renewing Charmed was a "no-brainer".

I tend to agree.... WB has no brain.

it is mystifying...
they ran out of plots two or three years ago,
all they do is costume design...

you would think they would be embarassed to have the most mocked show on TV!

Isn't this the same net though that wouldn't keep Buffy because 'it's not our top rated show.'? And at the time Buffy was third behind 7th Heaven and Charmed.

They've really screwed around with their schedule too - pairing Smallville with Everwood on Thursdays (against Survivor, Alias, the O.C. (if Fox doesn't move it), and whatever NBC schedules). Sounds like they almost want the shows to fail. Not that I really care about Smallville, but I'm failing to see the logic in that scheduling decision (kind of reminds me of when Angel's lead-in was 7th Heaven.)

I hope the wardrobe department gets a raise... they are going to need it!

I had such high hopes for the WB...

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do. -"Angel"

Come on now ... those honors go to American Idol.

I've never seen more than 30 seconds of Charmed. As soon as I figure out what it is, I'm gone. I never had an interest - don't think I ever will.

me too. i doubt i even make it to 30 seconds. i hate that show. how do shows like that last 8 seasons? granted, some shows are bad and that can actually make them good (know what i mean?) but i fail to see how this show fits in that category.

the show that was in the time slot before angel was 7th heaven? that IS really odd programming. a wholesome, family drama followed by a dark, brooding adventure. good choice. (i wish there were a way to type out sarcasm).

when angel was canceled, i vaguely remember reading that it had some of the better ratings on WB, especially in that 18-40 age range or whatever range it is that advertisers love and also that it had posted some of the biggest gains in viewership compared to other WB shows. am i remembering correctly?

Hey, face it, if Charmed was as well written as Angel, it would be gone already.
If it were as well written as Firefly, well, you know.

Here's the deal: Charmed gets high ratings (for The WB). It's cheap to produce. So they keep it on air.

I'm afraid it's as simple as that.

You've got to be kidding me. This means I have to suffer a whole new season of drivel? Maybe by the time we get it in the UK a certain 12 year will have grown out of it. Wishful thinking. Or.........I could get rid of the cable box....gorram thing ain't never on anyway since there's nothing decent on anymore. Carnivale cancelled, Joan cancelled. About the only shows I actually watch.

I'm jinxed, thats what it is. I watch, they get cancelled, daughter watches they get renewed. Thank the maker she's watching Dr Who.

Amazing, isn't it? This show is sooo bad, it almost ranks down there with all the reality shows in terms of quality. Maybe that's why it keeps getting renewed. The same idiots who watch reality tv also watch Charmed.

And comparatively good shows like Joan and American Dreams (I really liked the music, ok?) get cancelled. This is why I'm watching less and less tv every year...

hehe, someone else finally mentions american dreams! it really was a good show. good acting, good writing, good direction, and stories that aren't totally predictable! i can't believe it's not coming back next year:(

All you said is true. What knocked my socks off was the way they integrated the archival footage from "American Bandstand" into the show. That was done sooo incredibly well that it really took you back to the mid-60's.
