Just thought I'd start a thread for anyone who wants to discuss last night's episode of TI. It was written by Jane Espenson (she who wrote "Shindig") and had some of her trademark wordplay, plus she mentioned "Serenity" and had a character named Zoe.

Another great episode, I thought. Anyone care to add?

There was also that reference to cutting people open "to see what's inside." A double-pun on the Reavers and on the name of the show.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Figures I would miss a great episode. Got stuck at friend's place helping them move and forgot about it being on.

Ugh! Now I have to try to find some way of catching it.

One of Rebecca's lines sounded a bit like something Mal or Jayne would say - "I'm bigger than you, and I have a gun." Great episode.

Good catch! I didn't even think of that - definitely a Jayne line.

There was also a LOTR ref (when she said, "He wants his precious.") from Katie near the very end. I guess that shouldn't be surprising since Jane always had Andrew saying stuff like that on Buffy.

Props to both the little girl actress who played the evil kid (I hope she was just acting) and the actress who played the murdered boy's mother (she also played the housekeeper in "Wonderfalls"). They both gave incredible guest performances.

This was more of an ensemble performance than prior eps - more Adam and Katie, which was good. And I think Katie chain-smoking was actually meant as a nod to her "Wonderfalls" character, Sharon.

I think Jane sort of referenced Adam's first movie, "My Bodyguard", too. When he was interrogating Bunch, the suspect said something about having been picked on in school and, looking at Danny, he realized he wouldn't understand that - I'd have to watch it again to get the exact wording. That's just a possibility.

I loved Rebecca's last line, "Maybe some people are just born bad.", while Paul is looking at the sonogram of his soon-to-be kid. Just lots of great stuff from everybody.

Danny: "Who woulda thought I'd get to play the good cop?"

Mel and Carter with the whole decaffeinated coffee debate.

This show is a keeper, as far as I'm concerned. I hope F*X feels the same way.

It's funny that Katie Finneran's character smokes because she mentioned in a Wonderfalls commentary that she doesn't smoke and had a hard time being convincing.

That's true. I guess Tim just likes having Katie's characters smoke. Actually, it fits. Her characters on both shows are kind of the nervous, jittery sort - caffeine and cigarettes all the way.

Also loved Danny's whole "cake for breakfast" bit at the beginning. It was very Jaynesque..."Pancakes are cake. Pancakes are for breakfast."

I have to say that I think the best and creepest line in the show was during the little girls confession "I didn't know it was forever!" She had no concept of reality.

It was certainly creepy. However, I also think it was another lie. I think she knew exactly what she was doing at the time - she was about to do the same thing to her "friend" Nora just before the dead boy's mother intercepted her. As the mother figured out, the girl stayed close enough to see the mother find the boy's body and get her reaction. She knew what she was doing. As (I think) Web suggested, the girl is a sociopath - no conscience at all. To me, that's even more creepy than the thought that she didn't understand what she was doing.

Another great line from Mel earlier in the ep: "You can't smoke when you're pregnant. I have my priorities."

The irony of the argument over cake for breakfast while SHE had cigarette and coffee in hand was delightful!

GREAT episode - when I saw that Jane had written it, I was very excited - and I have to say I wasn't disappointed in any way.

Heard the Serenity reference, too - and the Reaver one. Whole episode was just creepifying :)

In the whole last sequence Danny ( hee hee Agent Love) was eating cake (or something). Just reminded me of the fact that Jayne was always touching/eating/smelling something.

I miss JAYNE!

Yes, it was nice to have an ep from Jane. Hopefully, we'll get one from Ben Edlund or David Fury pretty soon. Plus, I heard that Amber Benson will be doing a guest shot in episode 11. Unfortunately, they haven't stuck with the original episode order, so it's hard to say exactly when that will be.

Did anyone else get a shiver from the background music? I swear I heard a few bars of the "goodbye" theme from "The Message" when agent Locke was talking to the other little girl. Again, actually. I thought I'd heard it in the premiere episode too.

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

For me last night's episode was the best yet. I'm into it now!

It's interesting that we talk here and on the OB about The Inside and yet they have their own website.

What's also interesting is that Adam posts 20 some posts on the OB board every day and yet hasn't visited The Inside board since May 30.

What's up with that?

Get yourself a Tivo!
It is the best thing to have. You will never miss a favorite show again. (Unless, of course, an asteroid falls out of the sky and knocks out your town's power)

Another possibility for catching past episodes is to accept BitTorrent into your life. Now, I am not advocating that you utilize this program for illicit purposes, but since Tivo is legal, I consider publicly broadcasted shows fair game.

I am sure that a brief search on Google will result in a Torrent program of some sort, so I won't bother with a direct link. The Pirate Bay is an excellent source for torrent links. Just remember, stealing stuff is B-A-D...so don't get carried away with your new found power.
