Now I am learning about scary.

Yea!! Someone else mentioned "Strange Luck"! I wondered if I was the only person who ever saw that show. It had one episode with what I think was one of the best examples of TV writing ever; it had all these totally unrelated plots going on and then it just tied them all together neatly while Live's "Lightning Crashes" was playing in the background. That was so great.

Other favorites would be early X-Files, early West Wing, Northern Exposure, Mythbusters (does it have to be fiction?). I'm sure there are many more but those came to mind first.

Hey, I remember Strange Luck, too! I keep waiting for a boxset, but nothing yet....

For obscure, who remembers Flying Blind with Tea Leoni? Back before The Naked Truth started.

My fav show of all time is Cowboy Bebop
(Which is basically an animated Firefly with less people on the ship)

But the best show on television right now it '24'
Go rent/buy the DVD of the first season i a guarentee you will miss weddings ,funerals and graduations just to see what happens to jack next

P.S- Dark Angel had one (JUST one) good episode the piolt and the rest was just garbage. I can't believe that crap went on for 2 years when Firely got 11 episodes

XENOPROBE

Ok... first I must admit that I have not read each and every post in this tread. I didn't have the time right now but do plan to come back for a full immersion.

Second, let me say (with mild incredulity) what about the X-Files???

The X-Files opened doors in ways other shows never achieved. It paved ways for Science Fiction and Fantasy genres like nothing else (with the exception of the Star Trek franchise, and even then- their's was more specific.) The X-Files also spawned renewed interest in the crime drama... Shows like CSI, with original scripts and strong leads that are intelligent *before* they are in any way attractive, all owe a debt of gratitude to the X-Files.

Chris Carter helmed three shows (and had influence in a fourth) and, like another brilliant helmsman - Joss Whedon - Chris oversaw the evolution of an enduring television show.

Some people are fond of the first few seasons, some people gave up the moment Duchovny decided to move on. Did the show go on too long? Maybe... but maybe not. There were still excellent scripts and even better performances to be found in seasons 8&9. The dynamic was different, but it wasn't the first time someone other that Mulder and Scully were in the driver's seat of the XF unit. (Remember Spender and Fowley?)

If there's any doubt that the X-Files was a juggernaut of power and influence, just take a look online... millions upon millions of websites, forums and discussion boards are still active, years after the series' end.

It never seem to get the credit it is due. Yes, they won awards, yes they were widely accepted in the mainstream. Is it that the show didn't struggle as some of our other faves did? The truth is that it did struggle and there were major conflicts over the 9 year run (including a falling out with Chris and David that still did not do enough damage to rule out a 2nd film).

I think it is well worth saying that the X-Files is a masterpeice of conspiracy, a well-crafted study of human bonds and loyalty, an exceptional example of sound and space beyond staight dialog and an over-all cult classic.

Like the Prisoner, it opened doors and led us to other new and quality discoveries.

My first love is the X-Files (duh, really?) but, as 'verses go, I love Joss above all others and must say that Buffy comes before my love of Moose and Squirrel (Mulder and Scully , for anyone not familiar with the reference ;).

I hope people will contuinue to discover the X-Files, there's soooooo much to enjoy!

Go one now...the truth is out there...

SHINYSTRAWBERRIES

I'm way too old for Disney Channel, but I watch it anyway. Most of my favorites are on there.
Besides Firefly, here are my favorite shows in order:

1. Kim Possible- I think that it's real fun, and all of the hidden allusions in it that I didn't pick up on when I was younger are great!
1 (Tied). Strange Days at Blake Holsey High- A truly shiny show. It's on Discovery Kids, and if you love science I highly recommend it. It's about these kids in high school who live near this black hole that causes weird things to happen, and you always walk away learning something new about science. It's great.
2. Desperate Housewives- I can't believe that no one's said anything about it yet (unless I missed it). It may be shallow, but it is hilariously shallow. It makes you wonder what is going on in the minds of the writers...
3. Hannah Montana- Like I said, I still watch Disney, but this show is very funny and original. It's absolutely great, and the acting is exceptional, considering the actors are only around 14 or 15.
4. Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide- Again, another show that I'm too young for, but love anyway. Hilarious and lovable, these characters are ones you'll keep coming back for, along with the wacky story lines. Great show.
5. Avatar: The Last Airbender- I've only seen like two episodes of this show, and for some reason I've grown really attached to it. I don't know why, but I'm a sucker for good characters, and the characters on this show are excellent.

That was a long post with lots of useless information! I tend to write a lot of things that are irrelevant...

Girls are bonkers, boys are crazy, and there's only a few sane people in this world.

Jeezus! Weel I think that covered everything I like as well.

Except no one mentioned Get Smart. I love Get Smart. It's still so funny.

Non SCi-fi:
Get Smart
Wonder Falls
Muppet Show
Pinky & the Brain
La Femme Nikita
MacGyver
The Tick
Scrubs
Due South
Veronica Mars
Daria
The Simpsons
Frasier
CSI (original only, Miami and NY are pale imitations)
Desperate Housewives (season 1 only)
My Name is Earl
Malcolm in the Middle

Sci-Fi:
SeaQuest (season 1 only)
X-Files (till they "jumped the shark")
StarGate SG1 (seasons 1-4)
Babylon 5 (until it became all about the Shadows)
DrWho (New series, esp, Christopher Eccleston)
Futurama
Astroboy

And of course all of the 80's classics like Moonlighting, the A-Team, Misfits of Science... ah, the nostalgia...

You know a show is good when people are still quoting it 20 years later -
"Would you believe...?"
"Missed it by that much."
"... and LOVING it!"

Ah, the pitter patter of tiny feet in huge combat boots... SHUT UP!!!

Well to just speak about the most current (since everyone's covered most of the shows I loved watching) that got me sucked back into TV land just look at my signature. Says it all.

Is it April 23'rd yet? (Hiro, take me to the future so I don't have to wait anymore.)

As well the other one I'm waiting for is Eureka, that shows come closer to most capturing the snark I got used to from Firefly. So when are the DVD's coming out? Hello, ptb, Eureka DVD's, so when can I expect them?

Bwahahahahaha, he does seem to be involved in much of the hijinx that the good Sherrif has to fix with his limited book smarts. Funny how Jack for all his lack of science seems to be the one to come up with simple solutions that work while the scientists are busting their brains going over the most complex, and completely unnecessary solutions.

I second that. SPORTS NIGHT was a really great and underrated sitcom. Was glad that it was canceled so that Peter Krause could go work on SIX FEET UNDER.

That show is in my top 5 greatest shows ever produced. It actually trumps anything Whedon created in my books since it has that quality of looking at the ordinary world around us in an extraordinary way. Everyone has dealt with death in their lives and the way that the show is about life in the face of death is just so powerful.

As for Peter, he's in this new pilot that I'm sure will be picked up. I want to see if he'll be able to shed that image of Nate Fisher the way that Michael C. Hall has with David on DEXTER.

REYNOLDSFAN34

Babylon 5, the winner and still champion, then I loved Classic Trek, not the other Dreks, Alien Nation, Forever Knight, Beauty and the Beast, also Farscape, in the SF realm.

Despite the cheesy 70s effects, I still watch it. Darin McGavin was great! The convertible Mustang, the same seersucker suit every episode, and his horrible photos. Much better than the new version.

I forgot to put The Last Airbender. I know there are others I've forgotten, !
