America loves a winner!

This show suddenly got more interesting. Claudia and Ben was an awesome move! I loved Ben's character in Farscape, and Claudia is even more beautiful now than ever. I love her in this role of Vala! And the writing involving those two is just fantastic. - Sorta spoiler -

Select to view spoiler:

The way they set up this love triangle between Ben, Claudia and Michael( LtCol Mitchell, Vala and Dr Jackson ) is a riot!

Vala to Mitchell - "Try playing hard to get "

...The writers must be having a field day in slipping in references from Ben and Claudia's Farscape days. Awesome!

Anyway, I enjoyed the whole line up. SG-1,SG-Atlantis and BSG. And NEXT Friday...whoah! Can't wait!!!

I loved her comment about Earth's "interesting, if somewhat limited gene pool". Daniel and Cameron's reactions were great.

I thought that the 'triangle' (mentioned in spoiler) was a little like Anya wanting to hook up w/the two Xanders....
I was thinking that Dr.Jackson & LtCol Mitchell look like twin brothers...and then Claudia/Vala makes the crack about the "limited gene pool on Earth" LOL
like DTuck I thought that was the funniest line on the show.

Claudia Black is great a comedy, I wish she was going to be a regular on SG-1

I am so excited to have Ben on Stargate, and to have him and Claudia onscreen together again is enough to put me into raptures. (I'm easily amused, as you can tell.)

I'm really enjoying Claudia getting a chance to play with the comedic aspect of her character. Although I seem to be the only person on the planet who doesn't think Ben and Michael Shanks look alike.

Someone said that there was a rumor Anthony Simcoe and Wayne Pygram were going to have guest shots on Stargate too. Anybody heard something more substantial about that?

INSANESPIKE

I loved the episode as well. It took me a while to get into it though. When it started off listing all the cast, and there was no mention of Richard Dean Anderson, I wasn't too happy. I really think the show is going to be lacking without O'Neill. I just hope he makes semi-regular guest appearances.

And while I like Ben's character, it's definitely going to take me a while to get used to him. I guess I'm just so used to the old team, that seeing this new guy leading SG-1 is just.....weird. I think it'll get a little easier to accept as the season goes on.

I also absolutely LOVED Claudia Black's character. I thought she was really good in the episode where she was introduced last season, and it was great to see her come back. The scene between her and Daniel are some of the funniest I've seen on the show. Too bad she's not going to be a regular, but at least she'll be guest starring a few more times.

All in all, a good start to the "new" SG-1. This season should be pretty interesting.

Yeah, watching Farscape would help, considerably. In more ways than one. I just dig Ben's Crichton character in Farscape. On par w/ that of Mal.

And I too didn't see the similarity w/ Ben and Michael. Sure, roughly the same height, but they had to work on Michael's hair a bit to style it like Ben's...must be a chick thing. Glad I don't see it.

about the resemblance between shanks, and browder, I never saw it untill the recent TVguide cover with Ben & Amanda Tapping. looked at it in passing, and had to do a double take to realise it WASN'T Michael Shanks. so to me any how, it's not a twin resembalnce, but close enough to be cousins maybe, what i would call double take resemblance.

Select to view spoiler:

... and i LOVED how they had Claudia wink at Ben when she told Daniel she was pregnant.

and it is gonna take a while for me to get used to Michael with a beard,,, after 8 years it's just...weird....

and OH!! and anyone else like how they seem to be making col. Mitchell a blend of Chrighton and O'neill. are they doing that, or am i just crazy????

one last thing, a comment on Atlantis - now i realise that this wouldn't make for interesting television, but if the ancients came to pegasus in the city, with just the city, shouldn;t there be a facility some where in the city to manufacture ZPM's? not to mention Gates, DHD's, those nifty weapons satellites, etc.. But then we would lose the fun "planet of the week searching for zpm" adventures....

i DO aim to misbehave

So far as I'm concerned, Ben Browder could do anything, anytime, anywhere. The man's brilliant. If we must lose my fellow Minnesotan, "Rick" Anderson (as Jay Acovone kept calling him when he was here in 1997), from the cast, they picked a true winner. Ben has the chops to take SG-1 on for another 9 seasons.

Select to view spoiler:

Oh, good lord, yes - Claudia's wink at Ben was priceless! They seem to be having a grand time - it's hard for a FarScape veteran such as myself to separate their current characters from John and Aeryn, but I'm more than willing to try.

I think Daniel ditches the beard after awhile. There was footage in the "making of" before SG-1 that shows him with out. So no worries.

As for Mitchell being a Crighton/O'Neill hybrid, consider that Shepherd, on Atlantis, is also a lot like O'Neill, although better at following orders... sort of. The writers tend to lean toward leaders who take their work seriously, but take themselves completely with a grain of salt.

Mitchell to Teal'C: So far, it's just "SG-Me."

Looks like Ben's getting all the good lines again.

As for the ZPM assembly, I'm thinking it would have to be a bit more intricate than rolling them out on an assembly line, or they would have come up with that by now. Also, if the ZPMs were easy to make, it would eliminate the plot motivation of the team having to go out and find them. Shepherd, Tayla, and Ford would have spent first season playing "go fish" or maybe teaching Tayla Texas Hold 'em while McKay supervised the manufacturing of new ZPMs. Not the best story device to build a series around, yeah?

Then again, Atlantis is a big city. They seem to be discovering new bits of it all the time.

Never seen an episode of Farscape in my life but just knowing that Ben Browder and Claudia Black were on the same show together gave their scenes an extra zing, so to speak.

Ben Browder has also endeared himself to me because of his voice. Loved the voice acting he did for a character on Justice League Unlimited. The slight Southern accent that Cameron has just made me melt. And Cam did have some of the best lines in the ep. He's not Jack but he doesn't have to be.

Though, I would have liked more explanations for why the members of SG-1 have decided to be where they are. Well, Teal'c's is obvious but Daniel, Sam, Jack could have used a bit more info. But I do understand why Amanda Tapping wasn't a huge part of the episode. Isn't she going to be absent for like five eps because she had a kid between seasons?

I want more. Damn three parter. And yes, Daniel needs to shave.

I liked the premiere after seeing it for a second time. Although I thought Vala's (Claudia's character, sp?) outfit was bit too much like the peacekeeper's uniforms from Farscape. I kept expecting peacekeepers to pop up.

Great comedy in this ep. I don't see why Cameron was awarded a Medal of Honor though. Cuz while he did shoot down ships and then crash and is possibly the only survivor from his squadron, he didn't do anything too extraordinary. At least not in what we were shown.

Looking forward to seeing more of this season.

I agree there, that was a little over the top. If I had, by some miracle had the job of writing this show... I would have played that sceen up a little more. Had the surviving members of the squadron withdrawing after expending all their ordinance.... Then one last attack ship takes a run at SG1's cargo ship, it gets by the Promethesis, lines up for the shot. You see Sams face looking out of the cockpit... aware certain death is near... Then out of nowhere Cameron brings his damaged shot-up fighter, trailing smoke into view and rams the cockpit area of the attack ship. Both aircraft are last seen spinning uncontrolled to crash into the white of the Antartic.

The scene I did really like was the part where the doctor told him the odds against him ever walking again. Says alot about his character without taking alot of time talking about it.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'll start out by saying I liked the episode, moreso than I had first suspected I might after seeing the promo.

I have only seen a few episodes of Farscape, and never really got into the show, but I did like both Ben & Claudia in their roles on SG1. I knew I would like the wise cracking thief Varla after seeing her in the episode last season w/ Daniel. The premier just proved my instinct was right. I like Ben's character too, though is humor and sarcasm are a bit too reminiscent of Richard Dean Anderson's character. Ben did seem to jump right into the role very easily and I think will be a great addition to the cast.

My only real gripe is that he gets top billing over the rest of the cast? That seem right to you?

Crichton was even more of a smartass than O'Neill. When I first heard that Ben was going to join the cast of SG-1, I was happy because I knew that he'd bring back that sense of humor and smartassness (?) that the show had been lacking when RDA's screen time was cut down. While he may be too reminiscent of O'Neill right now, give the writers a little time to get Ben's voice down and in no time Mitchell will be saying things like, "Something's got us all shaking like a sheep in Arkansas."

I'll preface this reply by saying that I LOVE Ben and I LOVE Farscape so, Frell Yeah!

Speaking of the billing, does anyone else hate what they did to the opening credits? I don't mind them doing the acting credits during the show, but to have that 10 second thing with the gate and the wormhole leading to the creators' names is just dumb. If they're going to do it that way, they should just end with that shot of the gate with the title and put "created by" underneath it. (They had to change the opening credits because SciFi wanted to be able to sell more advertising time.)

Right, that's what was posted online and in the Stargate Magazine. I was actually surprised to see her at all (only on a computerscreen but anyway). Why Daniel was packing up and ready to leave is a mystery to be, can someone enlighten me on that one? And Richard Dean Anderson will only have some special apperances as he does want to spend more time with his family after all those years first doing McGyver and then SG1. I can understand that but he is dearly missed, for crying out loud!!!

I read someplace that was to promote the show, RDA was actually against it, but the execs wanted that way. In the beginning he was the " name " actor to draw an audience. Have'nt a clue why they pushed it as long as they did.

I never really got the Shanks/Browder resemblence either until I saw the "Separated at Birth" page on Karlsweb (currently MIA site, karlsweb.com). It was two very similar pics of each actor: similar background, same tshirt, setup/posing, etc. I've always assumed they're from the SciFi publicity machine. Since the original pics are AWOL with site, I'll just point you towards the thumbnail still lodged in Google (Google Image Search: H_JohnCrichton_DanielJackson ) It's cropped to just their faces & isn't the fullsize pic, but you get the idea.

Ever since last week I've been excited for SciFi Friday... how'd that happen?

ok, having watche the premier like 4 times friday night/sat morning alone,( i have absolutely ZERO life ), we need to remember he ( daniel) IS the earth's best expert on the ancients, and now, with the Dedalus(sp?)launching for atlantis(note that this episode takes place before the atlantis season 1 finale - before the re-enforcements with the super duper naquida generators, and the rail guns, came through the gate from earth), Daniel has the oportunity to be the proverbial kid in the ancient candy store. so to speak...

Right on the money w/ Daniel & why he was leaving the SGC. If you recall at the beginning of SG Atlantis he wanted to go on the expedition to find Atlantis being the foremost authority on the Ancients, but he stayed behind at the SGC because he was needed. Then when they Prometheus was setting out under General Hammond to go to the Pegasus Galaxy to rescue the Atlantis expedition Daniel was on that trip. It makes sense and is in character that he would want to be on the Daedalus to head out to Atlantis and be part of that team. Unfortunately Varna made him miss the boat.

Teal'c is easy to figure out. He left for his people. They are free now and are looking to set up their own government. Teal'c being their leader is needed to help set up their laws, etc. Not really sure what would bring him back to the SGC unless he steps down appointing a capable leader.

Amanda Tapping is out for a couple of episodes as mentioned because of the birth of her child. Not sure why Sam would want to be in R & D when she has always seemed happy on the front line discovering new technology and reverse engineering it.

Should be an interesting season.

Character (Sam) reasons? umm..... she gets to play with all that shiny new tech before anyone else?
also didn't Jack retire so that he and sam could finally have a relationship( if am remembering the sg-1 season 8 finale right...) thus it would manke sense she would make sense that she would want to spend more time "state-side" as it were, and working at nellis, she would be on earth full time, and we allready know jusck moved away from colorado springs, but no mention of where to so.......

it's also a great example of the story line being adjusted b/c of real world events.( like season 4 of angel, b/c Charisma was pregnant.)

I also thought Vala was dressed like a Peacekeeper, although I think that was part of the set-up to Cameron's line, "Nice outfit." An inside joke, so to speak, for us Scapers. Although that line might have been only an appreciative male response to such an outfit - and to Claudia.

I, too, am a Farscape fan - miss that one almost as much as Firefly. And it is so terrific to see Ben and Claudia in such great roles. I saw Ben's guest role on CSI (was it two seasons ago?) and was more than a little disappointed to see him as a bad guy . I miss Crichton, et al.

I can hardly wait for Friday's continuation - I did some yelling and cussing at the cliffhanger for SG-1. I have no life - my schedule is dependent on television shows, particularly Sci-Fi Fridays!

There was no mention of this on the show, though I suspect this is what all the Jack/Sam shippers are thinking. It makes sense for Jack to retire since he's been retired twice now and they keep un-retirng him. And while I'm happy to imagine that Sam and Jack finally got together, I'm going to wait and see if it's mentioned on the show. There was no agreement between the characters that they would get together, though there was some gentle nudging from other characters.

Also, with everything they set out to accomplish - freeing the Jaffa, defeating the System Lords, getting rid of the Replicators - I guess Jack and everyone can move onto other things instead of saving the world on a daily basis. That's my answer now that I've had time to think about it. Just have to see how Cam will get the team back together. The show is called Stargate SG-1 after all. Can't just have Cam running around the universe without a team.
