Hi, yes I'm starting another DA thread - thought I'd save cisall some bother.
Anyhoo - my question this time round is -
who does everyone think is the most interesting character? Not the best-looking, or coolest, the most interesting.
Ponder that one awhile.

My vote is definitely with Lydecker!

FLF, you're back!!
Yes, Lydecker, definitly! So many layers to him (thanks, John Savage) that it's almost hard to nail him as a bad guy, which, of course, is what makes him such a good bad guy.
The other one (for me) is Max. As I said on the who are you thread, if I was female, I think I'd be a lot like her. Just look at her face when she *ahem* says 'goodbye' to Ben in S1. Family means everything, and friends are missed. She's so full of emotion...
I think I'm getting misty here.
(Sorry, didn't mean to sound like Ames White)

But I have to say, before I knew who Jessica Alba was, I knew John Savage was in this show, and that alone was reason enough for a serious look. What a character they wrote for him!

Yeah Savage was good - he even managed to make Voyager good for a couple of eps ;)

Personally, I think Joshua had the most potential to be interesting. I don't think they really did him justice though.

DUH! MAX of Course, anyone who can live in the conditions that character has and still be a good person while having her own agenda to find her siblings is awesome in my book. Max, while not as layered as lydecker, has an open-ness and simplicity about her, she seems very approachable(SP). I have always liked that in people, male or female.

I’d have to go with Lydecker too. Not only was Savage the only one with consistently good acting, but his character was the least stereotypically and most complex. I think he genuinely cared for his “children,” and there was deep struggle between what he perceived as his duty and his concern for his “children,” in the midst of an acute psychosis and extreme lack of empathy.

And the 'favouritism' he showed Max, his obsession with her, was freaky. When he pointed that gun at her in a drunken stupor and said " and I'll be right behind you.." the frakin' hairs on the back of my neck stood up!!!(still do, every time!!) It's also cool that Lydecker isn't her father, I mean, what a cliche that'd be.

Ever see him in 'The Amateur'? What an actor.

I agree with you about Max, she's definitely the most interesting female. I like how she's always prepared to do what she knows she has to - even with Ben (which I have to say makes me cry every single time I watch it) - no matter how much it kills her to do it. I also enjoy (if that's the right word) seeing her struggle for the normal life she knows she can never have.
Lydecker I love because he's not the stereotypical bad guy - he actually cares for Max and the others, and I have to agree with chrisisall, the scene in the hotel room after he's kidnapped her is one of the best in the show, and I love seeing Max and Lydecker interact (Prodigy, and Jesus bought a Casserole etc.).
They make a very interesting pair.

I agree that Max and Lydecker are the most interesting. Max was certainly more emotionally tied to Lydecker than she was to Logan. In fact, I'm not convinced she was ever actually in love with Logan. I think it was more a combination of feeling responsible for him, and the kind of safe zone he provided. If Max had to chose between saving Logan or Original Cindy, I think she would go with Original Cindy, and probably Sketchy and Normal too.

So, my nomination for third most interesting character is Normal. He seemed like a person trapped in the caricature he had build around himself. Every now and then you would see hints of a real person inside. Most obviously in the episode where he's going out with the woman who had the sex change operation, and in Art Attack when his "kids" do what it takes to save his life.

The other most interesting person to me was Max's surrogate mother who we get just the slightest hint of in Heat, but I always tear up when Hannah describers her to Max at the end of the episode. I was disappointed that one of the season story arcs wasn't Max trying to track her down.

Hmm, interesting. If your right, I think it would be because Logan can take care of himself (my boy shoots guns John Woo style, he bad), but you're wrong about Max not loving him - she does, if she didn't, seems to me she woulda been all over Alec the first heat she went through!
And yeah, Normal is a real peice of work, I just love the transition he goes through in Freak Nation (damn if that ain't 61 minutes of high compression entertainment!)

I always got the dark impression that the birth mothers were of little use after their 'job' was done, and putting 'em back in the world was a tactical no-no, so I never imagined they lived very long after the transgenic stork came a callin'.
With Max's obsession with finding her brothers and sisters, do you think for a moment she'd rest if she thought her mom was out there? That's why she asked Hannah what she was like, not where she might be; she's been in one particular place for at least 19 years at that point.

Definitely Lydeckker (?sp), and I'm thinking of the scene where Max and her brother kidnap him. Before they can really start into interrogating him, he short-circuits it by breaking one of his on fingers. Stone cold.

Not saying I liked him, either. I'd ice him as soon as he wasn't useful, which might be never, but he's always going to have *his* own agenda.

Uh, he did get killed off, didn't he? With DA and that Pretender-like show that followed Firefly, I don't really have all the details nailed down. Oh, yeah, John Doe, great ensemble cast, bad lead, who's getting another show, TANJ!

Lydecker was last seen in his vehicle, going off a bridge into a river, missing, presumed dead.
But then, they thought there was gonna be a third season at that point, and Donald was always a survivor...

Lydecker is NOT dead! Not a chance in HELL! You remember how they said 'Oh, the bosy must have been thrown free of the car' (or something along those lines) and they couldn't find the body. He's SO alive.

Lovin Lydecker here FLF
