In case any one was interested, Narnia did fab, about $15 million (USD) over industry estimates:

That's pretty cool just for the film industry in general. BTW, Narnia cost an estimated $180 million...

Huh...

Everyones raving about a movie that earned 30% of it's cost on opening weekend. From the number of adds I saw it must have had an enormous advertising budget.

Firefly took in 25% of it's cost on opening weekend with a MUCH smaller advertising budget and it's being looked at as a failure?

Shiesh!

That's great! If you liked the movie at all, that is.

Thank you, the goings-on about Narnia was startin' to bug me a little too.

As my daughter and I discussed this morning... there were hardly any ads for Serenity before it's release. The only ones I saw with any regularity were on SciFi, not on any of the main channels.

Narnia has been all over the place.... all day long, on every channel I've seen. Wish the advertising dept. at Universal had done that much for Serenity....

I'm a little blue today... so hope I don't come off too bitter to all you Narnia viewers and lovers. I'm sure it's an awesome movie and deserves it's success.... but so was Serenity, and it deserved more.

Thanks Moose, makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one seeing this. I heard about it as well last year... in magazines and elsewhere, and the lead up to it's release has seen some phenomenal advertising. All the family- like channels are really pushing it and that's great, but I'm just sayin'....

wish the same love from the execs had been there for Serenity.

On a better note, I just saw my first ad for the Serenity DVD while watching Comedy Central's The Colbert Report. Great ad, my daughter and I decided and a good place for advertising. Maybe they will do a better job of pushing the DVD! I am so hoping the DVD sells like hotcakes!

I want more Firefly!!

If Serenity were based on a 47 year old widely acclaimed classic story I'm sure it would have gotten a similiar advertizing and budget. Apples and Oranges people.

I have to agree with Finn. Its the first movie based on the first book of a series thats a lil less popular then LOTR.

Yup.

"Can't make it go further." Can't make people like it. I doubt even if Uni had doubled the marketing that it would have changed the outcome more than a few percentage points. The blockbusters I have in my DVD collection are not my *favorite* movies.
