Hi all,

Anyone miss this show as much as I do? Yet another show killed before it's time.

If anyone is interested in episodes of this show (or the whole collection) please contact me.

trs80@cornerpub.com

If you look in the trading post forum you'll see what I'm referring to...only for SAAB instead.

Another promising show that FOX shafted with a horrible timeslot (7pmEST Sundays). It ALWAYS got preempted by football games. They eventually tried to move it to a different timeslot(IIRC the 8pmEST Friday slot), but neglected to tell anyone. The only thing that saved FOX from my full ire is that they let it run the full season and were able to finish the main story arc.

BTW: you have mail, TRS80

Yeah, but at least they TRIED moving it from the Friday death slot to another one. More than they did for our beloved FF.

IMO this was a GREAT show, with huge potential. They just didn't allow their target audience a chance to see it.

Emails answered!

I was very saddened at the cancellation of SAAB. It was my favorite show of all time...well...2nd fave now. But it died a tragic death....fox just sucks when it comes to good well written shows. Dark Angel was another I watched, that at least had 2 years.

You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight? Oh wait a sec...that aint Firefly related....ok, here's the perfect one: I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.
Both mean kinda the same thing...*gigglesnort* Michael Keaton is the only Batman!!!!!!!

TRS80,

I loved the programme, as it had the sensibility that MR. ROBERT ANSON HEINLEIN'S STARSHIP TROOPERS™ had when I first attempted to read it (before giving up on it when I found the film's reality more entertaining!)

Fortunately, I have all the episodes on VHS with the adverts edited out, courtesy of SPACE: The Imagination Station.

I should very much have liked to see how the series resolved, or another season, @ least.

Ah, what a great show. I pulled down and watched a few of the eps recently, and was surprised at how well they held up. (There's always that bit of memory that remembers things as better than they were sometimes.)

The effects were top notch (part of the reason it was cancelled -- the show was a money pit) and the stories were deep, arcing and engaging.

It was the last show (besides Firefly) that I was painfully addicted to. The only thing I didn't like was the atrocious music! It was in the age of partial orchestras and MIDI ensembles, and the whole score tended to really grate on my ears and be way too invasive.

It does make me sad, though -- there are still SAAB shrines out there on the Web, halfheartedly hoping for its return someday. Is that going to be us in another 5 years?

I'd be interested in these SAAB eps, but I can't find the link to the trading post forum for them.

I really enjoyed the show. I found this link a while back, http://web-worthy.com/saab/merchandise.html
Looks like you might be able to find tapes and other stuff.

JUGGERNAUT,

SF has always been more costly to produce than other forms of episodic entertainment, primarily because one is generally required to assemble costumes & props that are used once, then discarded.
FIREFLY™ got around this rather well by making sure that its sets, weaponry, costumes, et cetera, were predominantly stock items that were readily available to them for dirt cheap: after all, who makes Westerns anymore?

I never noticed the music of SPACE: ABOVE & BEYOND™ except during its opening & closing credits, but what you described is analogous to what I experienced with BABYLON 5™, although I enjoyed the music well enough to obtain the soundtrack CD's.
Regrettably, however, my favourite music was in Season 1 & the pilot telefilm, neither of which I have managed to find on CD, the latter having been retrofitted by HERR CHRISTOPHER FRANKE for DVD release, which I find objectionable on general principle.
One should have the option of viewing with either soundtrack in place, just as one should have the option of seeing HAN SOLO shoot first, or not.
It's not as though the medium won't store that much information!
