The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

Typical. You wait for a show to hit the UK for ages and then it comes on and you don't know anything about it.

What a fluke it was I spotted it in the schedule

Ok, for all who want to know Supernatural will air on ITV at 11pm tonight
Supernatural is the show about two brothers (one of them played by Dark Angel and Smallville's Jensen Ackles) who are on the road and encounter all sorts of weird occurances.

Apparently its really good.

Talking about new shows hitting the UK but not being announced,
Night Stalker (the remake of the original Kolchak series which inspired CC to write the XF) is airing on Friday nights at 10 on Bravo (and at 11pm on Bravo +1 - obviously)
So far 2 episodes have aired (out of about 7 or 8 I believe) and I happen to love it. So mad that its already been cancelled.
If you didn't know it was on, sorry, but you can still catch it whilst you can. I don't know if it'll be repeated

Other shows that have started and you might not know about include Surface (dont know when but I think its on one of the ITV digital stations), The Inside (Fridays again on one of the ITV's), Prison Break (Pilot repeated tonight on Five)
Also ITV have been really good by repeating a load of cool cult favourites including Due South, Dark Skies, Now and Again, First Wave and more)

(Btw - I have posted this same message in a couple of places already elsewhere on the web. So if you think I have nicked it from someone else or vice versa, don't. I just can't be bothered to type out the same announcement so I just copied and pasted the news item. I just wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted to see Supernatural - or the other shows for that matter - didn't miss them because nobody bothers to advertise any more)

Supernatural is really dumb and predictable. I watched the first few episodes and I just couldnt take it anymore. Its lame how everytime they do something they have some kinda classic rock playing in the background. It does on occasion have some funny parts in it, but not enough for me to care.

???

'Supernatural' aired last night at 9pm on ITV2.

I was lucky to catch an advert for the show in the 'Metro' newspaper, when I was on the bus on Thursday. It's true. There hasn't been a lot of advertising for it. Although, it's great stuff! I wasn't aware they were repeating it tonight.

Of all the new autumn shows that came out from the U.S, this is the one that I've had my eye on, I've been waiting ages for someone to buy the rights to show it. Glad it's on our screens now! Jensen Ackles is a great actor. Loved his work on Dark Angel.

Well, it's properly, universally available on ITV tonight, none of that not-everybody's-got-it-dammit satellite or Freeview malarcky.

I shall be watching.

I was JUST this minute on my way over here to announce the same.

Why 11:00pm I wonder? Surely two guys on a cross country trip, fighting monsters ain't the hardest sell in the world?

I'm excited about this because its a pretty broad concept, there's no "hook" as such, so there's a lot more potential. Plus, Dreamwatch Magazine gave the Pilot full marks, which I've never seen them do before.

I'd encourage UK peeps to watch the first episode, if only to show support for new genre TV!

I watch the show here in the States, and it's not bad. Not great, but pretty good, IMHO. Plus, you can play "spot the Whedonverse connection" with several episodes (guest stars, etc.)

I think it's a good show. It's not Whedon good, but it's definitely one of the best shows currently on TV. And yeah, you can spot the Whedonverse connection. Last week's ep had Julie Benz (Darla of Buffy and Angel) in it. She did a really good job, I think.

Well it's on right now and I'm not watching it. Why? Cos I've been out and missed the first 10 minutes.
I would have watched it from then (although I hate coming in to a program when its already started) but I found out that it's going to be repeated on ITV2, Thursday at 11.05pm. I'll be watching it then instead

I had no idea it premiered yesterday night. If I get the chance (meaning if it doesn't conflict with what my parents want to watch), then I'll try to watch it on Sundays

Could be a UK thing; the series is pretty steeped in Americana. Not flag-waving or anything, but a knowledge of American folklore, pop culture, and music is mildly helpful. If UK programmers are anything like their American counterparts. . .

And yeah, I like this show too. It's fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously. And the music kinda grows on you after a while.

Have they played any of the behind-the-scenes stuff over there? It's one of those shows where the actors are very clearly having a blast doing it, and I feel that chemistry comes through.

Also, it's one of a handful of franchises that could conceivably take place within my own fantasy-universe (i.e., the place where my stories are set). I even have a fanficcy crossover idea (Sam & Dean cross paths with another team of Hunters).

Quality stuff, I think. It surprised me with how adult and sophisticated it was in terms of content; the shot of the Woman in White's ghostly hand materialising on the windshield, the bloody scenes of her torturing the first young man, then Sam... that was quite Above and Beyond, I thought.

Jensen Ackles did a good job of portraying a somewhat eccentric and edgy character, and Jared P. gave a sympathetic performance.

I'll definitely be following this 'un...

I liked the brothers, they were interesting and fun. Nice idea using the whole folklore thing. Good effects, definitely, mainly by not having very many of them and saving the money for the big scenes

And yes, it would make an interesting setting for stories, or someone's RPG.

I admitt it, I like it too. I just watched a tape from earlier in the week. It's predictable, but I like monster hunting shows (X-files) and the guys sure aren't hard to look at. I didn't see Darla, but I saw the one with Fred.

I have been watching it in the US since it came out. I really enjoy the show. The same week it debuted, a show called Nightstalker also debuted on ABC, and they had a very similar premise. But the ABC show was really boring and the storytelling was dull. I think the storytelling in Supernatural is much better.

I watched Nightstalker a little and it was sorta dull. I hear it's cancelled now. It was a remake of a 70's show called "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", which inspired the X-files. Seems like they're running out of ideas. I loved this week's reference to The Sixth Sense, Medium, and Ghost Whisperer.

I mentioned "Night Stalker" in the original post as it's also just started over here in the UK

Personally I like it (Night Stalker that is) and although its a different sort of show to Supernatural (some may take that as being dull and slow), I enjoy the style of it.
Then again, I'm a big X Files fan and recently a fan of Kolchak too (I've been reading the comics and also found the pilot of the original series, which I enjoyed), so maybe that has something to do with it.
I quite like the character of Kolchak and even though I didn't think I'd like Stuart Townsend in the role (I thought he seemed to young), I think he suits the character.
Plus I love those narrative voiceovers at the beginning and end

...

Anyway, this is primarily a "Supernatural" thread so I'll talk about that

I watched the pilot last night and thought it really was great. Admittedly I thought the end in which...

SPOILER ALERT
SPOILER ALERT
SPOILER ALERT

... Jared P's girlfriend dies the same way his mother did was a bit of a cheap get out clause to force him back on the road with his brother...

SPOILER END
SPOILER END
SPOILER END

... but other than that, I thought it was a well done episode, and pretty scary too. In fact, although the saying gets passed around so much its now become cliche, Supernatural really does look like a movie
Really.
I was looking at it yesterday during the scene with the two brothers on the bridge and I was thinking, if I just tuned in or walked in the room, I'd wonder what movie it was. Definitely high production values

I just hope it stays on the air long enough

Clearly, you came into the show with knowledge and an appreciation of the Kolchak character. I had never seen or heard of Kolchack other than the series that debuted last fall. I don't think they ever really give him any character in the new series, so to the uninitiated, I think most would find it a dull character. I can't speak to the comic or the original Kolchack though. They might have been much deeper.

Don't worry, that particular plot element starts to reappear in later episodes: the being ultimately responsible seems to have a personal grudge against the family.

It looks like there'll be an X-Files-ish mix of stand-alones and "mythology" episodes, dealing with dad's "disappearance" and the overarching hunt for that thing.

PATSRULE - Maybe you're right about the reason I liked Kolchak, then again maybe you're not - I think a lot of fans didn't like the new series because he was different to the original (in the original series, Kolchak was a "funnier" character, sacastic remarks and all.) I can understand you thinking he is dull, but I think that's may be because Stuart Townsend (and the writers) hadnt yet had time to show the characters development. Plus he's a pretty serious character, perhaps too serious, but given time I could have seen him lightening up (After all he had just recently lost his wife)
Just a thought though, in my opinion the character of Fox Mulder may have come across as "dull" in the first few episodes (though some may blame DD's acting), but later on, once we spend more time with the character and he develops, we find he is far from "dull"
Anyway, that's just my take on it.

That's encouraging to hear, plus I noticed you worded it in such a way that didn't give away any big spoilers (hate them) but at the same time gave me something to look forward to.

Btw, I should have used that spoiler command in my previous post, mainly because I didn't know how to do it...

No worries; it was right in the first ep, so I'm guessing anyone who reads this far will have seen it.

And I don't really have any big spoilers to give away; the season's still going on here.

We learn a few details about the supernatural force that did it, then its implied that there may have been another being involved (either responsible for, taking orders from, or just working for the same source, it's still unclear).

I think it's funny how they throw in phone numbers and email addresses and stuff that viewers can call. Silly, but fun.

I like Supernatural for it's comfort with itself. The brothers' solutions to things are based on stuff that's not real anyway, so I never get caught up in the, "Oh, that couldn't happen that way." The show has no problems defining what can and can't happen, so my brain can relax and simply suspend disbelief at the door. Because of this, I barely even get bothered by the way people everywhere accept these two slacker looking types as cops or federal agents, or whatever they bluff as in any given show. It's all good...
