Is anybody a Lexx fan?

I've enjoyed the first Lexx movie I downloaded from Kazaa. I'm tempted to buy the DVD's.

It's a little Dr. Who-ish, but I like the story and the brief nudity. I get tired of censored television.

Filmed in Canada and Germany, Lexx is a TV miniseries space adventure about fugitives running from the corrupt government that rules them. Sound familiar?

It showed in America for a while on Showtime.

The show is very different from Firefly, pure sci-fi and no western. It obviously had a lower budget, but I like the story and the characters. I wonder who else has seen this show?

So far, I've only seen I Worship His Shadow. I thought it was very entertaining. I'm downloading more eps very slowly on Kazaa. I don't suppose TRS80 has them on DVD?

This sounds interesting Succatash. I haven't seen this yet. Does everybody know about Succatash's great taste in tv? He likes Firefly you know? I know some of you think he has some questionable opinions in other areas, but make no mistake he has great taste in tv.
Well, any show that he thinks must be good, must have some merit. I will check it out.

Gosh. First off, I must disclaim by saying that I have only watched perhaps two episodes of Lexx, so there may be subtleties which I missed. Also, let it never be said for a moment that I would presume to place a stamp of anything approaching Objectivity on my opinion (great quote from Humberto Maturana: "any claim of objectivity is a demand for obedience.").

That said, and despite the fact that it stars one of the most sultry and delectible specimens of femininity I have ever beheld, I found Lexx to be unwatchably broad and infuriating in its self-conscious "cheeky-ness." Low production values I can handle (big "Who" fan back in the day), but I found this show to be unredeemably atrocious in almost every discernible regard.

If I have prematurely (and obviously quite emphatically) put the kybash on something which I might discover to be quite good after all, then I would welcome the chance to munch on these words with some fava beans and a nice Chianti (f-f-f-f-f-f). But my lingering impression is one of pure, cask-aged go-seh. Curious about others' opinions...

Interesting! Thanks for your opinion.

I think I'll still give it a try, but I am not expecting the world. I did enjoy the very first episode. It's like Flash Gordon meets Dr. Who meets Firefly, sort of.

It was an odd show to say the least. Abstract kinda. Funny in parts, strange in others and sometimes down right unquantifiable. Liked the nudity too, 'cause I appreciate the female body.

I believe in remaining objective about shows until I see them, save for Reality TV and that Dawson Creek st. I guess I'm not THAT objective.

Hell I probably wouldn't be a Firefly Fanatic if it hadn't been for Mal putting Crow through the port thruster in the Train Job. I woulda watched it but not this religiously.

I really liked the first 4 episodes that were shown on showtime. However, I could not get into the rest. I guess I really liked the original Zev! She was VERY HOT!

This info i gatehered thru internet when i first saw Lexx in IMDB.com and inrigued.

First season of Lexx was 4 films. Second season it turned into series and most people watched series didnt like them because without the films (very few people knew they were related) it made no sense.

Now (after its cancelled for some time) its considered one of the cult classics if not sci-fi.

now my thoughts: I only watched 4 films yet but so far i liked them. They arent your everyday heroes (prolly one of the reasons why i liked it). Its very simple and cheesey at times so if you dont like that type dont even bother to watch.

that would be an emphatic no. i couldn't even make it through the teaser of the pilot ep--it was just a little outside my way of thinking. i tried to watch it one more time and must have caught the episode (no idea which) targeted toward 16-year old males. not that that's bad, necessarily, but seeing as I'm not 16 or a male, you can see the conflict. didn't watch anything after that, so i'm no authority, but i would have to agree with the abstract assessment; Picasso vs. Verneer. also, i have to applaud the writers and producers who went that far with a sci-fi theme and managed to get three(?) seasons out of it.

I've never seen LEXX, but I ended up hanging out with the LEXX cast at a sci-fi convention back in 2003.

Those folks are OUT there :-)
(I was supposed to go to a party with them back at their hospitallity suite, but after drinking with a few of them I decided that I just wasn't that crazy.)

I miss LEXX, one of my favortie shows because it was totally different from anything else on tv at the time (if ever that iv seen). Gotta have that wacky kinda lovin to love that wacky kinda show and its all because of the robot head 790 and his early passionate love for his sex slave and total hate for Stan. Curse the prices for the dvd's, it's the only reason I havn't bought the Farscape series.

Yeahi have seen the movies all of them!

And i can tell you that although they may seem at bit basic the further you get into the series 1 to 4 the more moving and deeper the story gets.

It really is one to watch so don't miss out

(by the way i have the movies on DVD and don't regret it)

The original mini-series was great! The series started off great too even though the replacement Zev was not as good as the original. Unfortunately the last season with fire/water planets was AWFUL!! It just went on and on and on. I spoke to the actor and co-writer Jeff Herishfield (790) who said by the end of the last season he had all but washed his hands of the direction which Lex Gigeroff and Paul Donovan were taking the show, it became all but unwatchable at the end, what a shame...so much fun it had been, and Oh that Kai!

I don't say this often, but Lexx was actually too weird for me. I did like the guy who was the undead assassin (sorry, don't recall his name). And Zev was pretty cool too (I liked the second Zev better). It was certainly one of the strangest shows on Sci-Fi (Tripping The Rift is up there, though).

I never got Lexx. It is definately nothing like Dr Who. In the UK Lexx appeared on the TV and shortly after Farscape appeared. I am a Sci-fi head and I tried so much to get into Lexx but IU just never got it. Farscape came along and that flew. It was the best sci-fi on TV :)

Original Xev very pretty, but with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of panstick.

Xev 2. Eek! Bulemic heroin addict lip implant horror. Tribute to the actress that she came across as quite likeable.

Kai. Silly Urdu, but so hard, he could get away with it.

Robot perv and Stanley. Probably the two entities in both universes most in need of a slap.

Lexx. Great. Loved the moth helicopters and the being able to destroy planets just like that.

The big cannibal lass was a bit of all right. Early example of Reiver couture, if I'm not mistaken.

Cult status guaranteed by guest spots from Rutger Hauer and Malcolm MacDowell. I'm surprised David Warner never popped in for a bit of a moustache-twirling villainous turn.

Definitely ran out of steam later on.

This threads a little old...but I must reply. I love Lexx! One of my favorite shows, besides being a little perverted, okay alot perverted, it still maintains an interesting plot and creative and new characters. A completely different type of show than Firefly of course, the characters aren't quite as noble. Watch Lexx! I think it's an underappreciated show.

It can be good and it can be bad. I've watched from the beginning but damn I stopped watching after season 3 I think. Taped them, but never watched them then taped over them. But yes, I like the show. If your into bizarre weird crazy and all out funkified shows you'll like Lexx.

Maybe this should be over in the 'guilty pleasures' thread. I coulnd't help but like this series. The characters were fun, the stories were weird, and who doesn't love a living ship that blows up planets in order to eat them? I also like when Prince showed up later in the series due in large part to the performance of Nigel Bennett. He also brilliantly portrayed Lacroix, the main baddie on another favorite of mine, Forever Knight. That guy just has so much fun being evil.

I think Firefly could have found home at ScifiChannel now Syfy back in the old days

Rutger Hauer, Klaus Dieter Laser, Minna Aaltonen now dead ... did Covid kill people or Lockdown insanity or old age
Most of Babylon-5 Cast are dead

Lexx at times Very Farscape-ish

The story of Lexx for its time was shocking but the smutty horror campy nude Vegas adult humor is probably tame by today's filth tranny porno standards

had a silly humor like British Red Dwarf
I think the acting and music endure

Lexx at times was dumb but it got a pass for its B-movie junk entertainment

but Farscape was considered higher quality but with quality it has more critics

I liked Lexx in the beginning but it got a little weird to me after a while. I don't know. I just kind of lost interest in it. Back in the days when I watched it though, it was on cable TV and who knows if they even played it in order? No way I was going to pay $100+ per season to watch it on DVD and I didn't have internet for a few years afterward.

A buddy of mine had the DVD with 4 one hour shows that I think were the first 4 episodes of the series. Those were good.

It was definitely original; I liked the first Zev. I liked the idea of a dead assassin.
"His Shadow..."
"His Divine Shadow, yes."
"The Brunnen-G will defeat you."
"I do not think so. The power of Order has destroyed your planet. The power of Order will destroy you - and you are the last of the Brunnen-G left alive."
"The Time Prophet has seen your Order destroyed by the Brunnen-G..."
"The Time Prophet's vision appears to be flawed."

Loved 791 - "You're not pretty...but you're my kind of not pretty!" and "You're not going anywhere until I deal with this sizzle in my pizzle!"

I was never quite sure if they were heroes or not. It was good, though.

Yeah. I didn't dislike it. It's always one of those shows that I think maybe if I ever get back into watching TV Shows and Movies I would like to give another try if I watch them in the intended order.

It was weird enough to make it different from anything else I saw on TV back then, and I did like the sets and the characters (although I pretty much forget any of their names or would struggle even to tell you what the show was even about all these years later).

Did it get a satisfying end at least? I probably wouldn't bother going back and rewatching it if it was cancelled early and they either left you on a cliffhanger or had to cram 3 seasons worth of story in 4 episodes.

As for not knowing if the heroes were good or not, I think that's a lot more interesting than the good guys dressed in white and the bad guys dressed in black. Real life isn't like that at all. Most of my childhood TV watching was a lie. It wasn't until around the time that Lexx came out that the media stopped making everything so absolute and allowed for realism via nuance.

In fact, I was just going to mention that the humorous early plot twist in Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight which literally used the black and white wardrobe was the first time I remember being struck with mockery of the old conventions. So I looked it up and that movie hit the theaters in 1995. Lexx started in 1996.
