Any fans of the movie? Just watched it last night after not seein' it in a long while...forgot how good it was.
Always refreshing to see folk travel to a planet millions of miles from Earth, and find inhabitants that DON'T speak English!!!

LOL. Good point!

Did you watch the theatrical, or director's cut? It's been a while since I've watched either myself, but I'm always a sucker for an extended version of a movie (if it's one I enjoy - a longer Kung-Pow would akin to bamboo shards under the fingernails...).

Extended cut, which I had actually never seen before. I think it's really Emmerech's(sp?) best movie. It has all the heart of Independence Day, and none of the dopeyness.

Mmmmm…………………”Stargate”. I LOVE “Stargate” just as much as I love “Firefly” but I love “Firefly” more.

Actually I watched the move a couple of weekends ago after a really long time and remembered how much I love “Stargate” the movie. My Mum and I were like Mmmm would it not be neat to travel around in a flotty pyrimid (SP) or step through a stargate.

Select to view spoiler:

I love the scean where Daniel is like messing with the stargate before he goes through.

I am into the shows, as well, I love the show both SG1 and Atlantis.

Did anyone see last weeks ending to the show. It was really cute at the end.

You know, I really liked Stargate when I saw it in the theater. Then I really was wowed with the Director's Extended DVD thingy.

So, I thought I would rent the series and watch it. ... Well, its not always a good idea to take a moive and turn it into a tv show.

I was less than impressed, and I watched 3 seasons just to make sure. Just as with the Star Trek offerings, it took til season 3 to get the characters ironed out. (uh, except Enterprise which was doomed from the start due to the network, not the writers)

I gave up.

I couldnt do it.

Then I re-watched Stargate with the commentary. Oh, man! Talk about a slap across the face to those in charge of the tv show.

And, yeah, you are correct. It was very refreshing to find non-english speaking natives elsewhere.

I would have to agree it's his best movie. Much as I hate to admit it, I think his 2nd best was Universal Soldier.

Yeah... I'm weird, but I love watching Jaye Davidson gliding around in that movie. Not as much as I like watching him in "The Crying Game," but almost as much.

i love that movie. i think if it weren't for stargate, the movie, sg1 and atlantis would not have been made.

of course, because of the fantastic casts on them, these stargate series are just marvelous.

i love all of it.

I was lucky enough to see it for the first time on San Antonio's big IMAX screen. It only took up about the middle third of the screen. Still, that's like four times the size of a normal screen. Best part was when they first go through the wormhole. You have no idea how cool that is on a big, BIG movie screen. A few years later, I got to see Titanic on the big damn screen too. That was cool.

Random question: What does Mal mumble (in Chinese?) after Dong Luh Mah at the end of the opening oner of Serenity? He's talking to Simon, say's Dong Luh Mah, turns and keeps talking!

I love the movie, prefer it too SG1, which is still good but hmmm... Atlantis I just can't watch, its what Excalibre was to Babylon 5, a cheap shadowy imitation imho.

Love the movie, love the cast, got it for my PSP for when Im on the go. I just haven't been able to get into SG-1, I find the cast change jarring, those guys did such a good job that I just can't get on with the TV actors (who amusingly have had many many many more years in those roles)

My problem though, not SG-1's I suspect so its all good for fans of SG-1. I dont mind Atlantis though.

Hmm, now I kind of want to take a break to watch Stargate again.

My problem with SG-1 and Atlantis lies in the idea that no government would ever let these gates be used unsupervised or controlled at any time by civies, and that they would inevitably try to use the gates to rule Earth.
After the movie, I would hold to the idea that the stargate would be shut down, or destroyed, by those that wouldn't want such awsome abilities in the hands of petty bureauocrats and hawkish politicians.

Remember why they wanted an Alien brought back to Earth? Ask Carter Burke.
Oh, that's right...you can't; an Alien killed him...

Anyway, painting the government as anything less than suspicious killed those two series for me.
(Or did I not see key episodes?)

You're right of course, Chris, but I ignore it in order to just enjoy. My kids got me hooked on the Stargate shows, both of them and also on Battlestar Galactica by virtue of the fact that it came on after, I watched and liked.

There have not been episodes that justify the government thing... they pretend. I pretend. It's as simple as that. However, I don't watch as much since I fell for Firefly, because I simply don't like it as much. Still like the new Battlestar Galactica though. It's not Firefly, but it's about the best on television (currently) that there is.

LOOOOVE the Stargate movie. Never got to see it on the big screen -- wanted to, but just never made it.

I kicked myself up and down once I saw it on the small screen.

Can't get into the series, though one of my sisters is really into it (or, at least she was. Not sure if she is any more).

Excalibre?? Do you mean "Crusade"? cause that was crap! but I dont agree with a comparison of it to SG Atlantis, I like Atlantis!

Crusade was fair crap, yes, but it has the fact that it is sci fi going for it. I'll watch any sci fi before most other CRAP on TV.

Yeah, your right I meant Crusade. It's not a straight forward comparision thing though, I can't watch Atlantis for the same reasons I can't watch Crusade, it cheapens what came before (for me). Just personal opinion, but I think Earth Final Conflict and Andromeda are terrible too, so what do I know?

Earth Final Conflict and Andromeda are pretty bad I agree but I still say that because they are sci-fi they are better than 95% of the other crap on the tube(or plasma).

Well, that's not hard, the long drawn out death throws of a man suffering from terminal flatulents would have more entertainment value than most reality TV.

BG is a show I really like, it's very complex in characterization, and there are lots of greys. Almost the equal of Firefly or Dark Angel.

Great movie yes, but just how does this film become the friggin phenom it is today thanks to the syndicated tv series spawned from the HBO series? A fanbase just as rabid as the Browncoats I may add, although lower on the geek totem along side Trekkies and Warsies.

I love the movie. I don't think I've seen the director's cut, but I 'ought to. Sadly, I don't watch the series...yet I love the episode that Adam Baldwin is in.
O-o Plus, one of the monster guys from Angel was on Stargate. I__I I never knew. He was pretty cool too (oddly I seen him on that episode).

It's possible for me to get into Stargate, but I resist. It almost worked for Atlantis, but I'm super lazy.

When my brother and I first saw the STARGATE movie we were not very impressed with it.
I wasn't to crazy about watching the TV series when we started seeing advertisements on Showtime for it, but my brother convinced me that Amanda Tapping looked so cute in her airforce uniform that we should give it a try. Upon seeing the TV series we saw the movie again and we realized that it was actually better then we first thought. Now we're fans of both the movie and the TV series.

Stargate (The Movie) was one of the reasons why I made sure to get the SciFi Channel to watch SG-1 back in '97. And really, it's because of SG-1 that I looked for Firefly in the first place (even though it was on FOX), along with Battlestar Galactica.

At first on SG-1, I really didn't like the character changes between the main characters either... Michael Shanks was no James Spader, and Richard Dean Anderson seemed much more like MacGuyver's Dad than the hardened veteran played by Kurt Russell. It was some of the movie cast who played limited roles, Sam (Amanda Tapping), and eventually Teal'c (Christopher Judge) who kept my interest.

What I REALLY HATED about SG-1 was when they took Richard Dean Anderson and Don S. Davis out of the show... by that time (7th-8th Season) those actors really made the show special! But no... let's stick some drifting Farscape actors into the mix! (Ben Browder and Claudia Black)

I'm still trying hard to adjust to those two... I still see them as John Crichton and Aeryn Sun. Thankfully, the others stepped up their roles a bit and made things a little better than just filling a void.

Also, get rid of the Ori already... *yawn* they bore me a little. They're not as interesting to me as the Go'auld or the Nanomachines. Thankfully, this season finale was GREAT!!! I can't wait for July now simply because of that show. :)
