America loves a winner!

I don't know of any backstory w/ this character, at all. Is she from a comic series? Seems to me like it's what ever studio's attempt to coat tail off the success of AeonFlux ( ha ha ). Seriosly, how many times have we seen a super genetically modified warrior chick turn against the establishment that made her and fight for justice, freedom, etc... ?
Sound familiar ?

Who is going to see this in the theatres?

I swear, if this comes anywhere close to SERENITY at box office, I'll...be quite put out.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

It's from the writer/director of Equilibrium, which I quite enjoyed, so I'm keeping an open mind.

Though I admit that Milla Jovovich with super-powers reminds me too much of the last Resident Evil movie -- and that made me want to tear my eyes out.

And no, it's not from a comic book.

Ultraviolet looks like the biggest piece of cheese ever.

Example,

"Are you mental?"

"Bring it on"

That there is some fantastic dialogue.

Funny, this seems more appealing to me than Aeon Flux. At least Mila can do action. I for one will go see it, after all she kicked the Mengaloids (right name) back to their side of the galaxy in 5th element. I guesse we'll see.

Not so much sh*t giving here. But I am curious as to how a movie comes out of no where and very little advertising will do at the box office. I'm expecting pretty crappy. But it does have the appearance of a AeonFlux clone, if nothing else.

In short, I'm trying to get a thumbnail sketch of how a lower budget SciFi / action movie does in today's market, and compare that to our BDM. Serenity got great reviews, and didn't do as well as many had hoped.

It is? I may just look into it now. Although Christian Bale is a MUCH better actor.

Is looks like it might be loosely based off of the UK miniseries "Ultraviolet" about high tech vampire hunters. That was prety good (I have the dvd set).

I had heard rumors at one point of a possible TV series to be remade from it in the US. I had my doubts as just about every great show from the UK that they try to rip-off and remake with US actors ends up a total looser.

This looks like it could be a rebuild of that plot/concept but more along the lines of a female "Blade" character than the original humans hunting the infected "vampires" in the UK series.

Good or bad, I'm sure I'll see it eventualy, just cause it's Milla...

Yeah, I almost hate tossing money to sub-par movies after seeing Serenity...

Oh well, I don't do the theatre thing anyways, I'll likely wait until it comes to DVD. It does have Milla Jovovich in skimpy outfits doing actiony stuff... so that's like 75% of my decision already made right there.

Still, judging from the commercials it seems like someone's try to cash in on like every action movie that came out in the past five years and made any money at all. "Hey, let's do Kill Bill/ Aeon Flux/ Dark Angel/ Transporter, etc... all in one. Oh, and that chick from the crappy Resident Evil movies, cause she looks good in skimpy clothes doing actiony stuff with swords."

I swear I'll be keeping an eye for Uwe Boll (sp) to be somewhere in the credits... ;p

Actually, though the plot does somewhat involve Vampires, this has nothing to do with the Ultraviolet miniseries - which was quite excellent, I'll agree.

The American re-make of the mini got a pilot episode - I think - but never was picked up.

This one is an original script written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, who as I mentioned above, wrote and directed Equalibrium. I don't know many details of the story, but it seems to be set years after a vampire-like plague has swept the earth. The plague, and the vampires are gone now, but the government has used the altered DNA of the vampires to create genetically-enhanced super-soldiers, who then rebell.

I'm not saying it'll be a classic, but I was impressed by Equalibrium, and that had a much smaller budget. I'm kinda surprised by the ammount of vitriol here for a movie that no one has seen. Makes it feel like an Aint-it-cool-news talkback.

Is it just me or is this pretty much along the lines of every movie Milla Jovovich has ever been in? I think she's really cool, but they pretty much run along the same lines.

Just the movies she's been in that people bothered to see (5th Element, Resident Evil). I don't think there were any super-powers in Return to the Blue Lagoon or the murder mystery she did with Sam Jackson (the name escapes me).

Though she did have the power to look stoned all the time in Dazed and Confused, if that counts.

I'm definetly going to go see it because for one, the movie looks very artistic (the CG does a great job of making this stuff pretty), and for two.... Mila's hot.

I swear I'm a nice person, but... I am going to freaking DISMEMBER the next person who says Ultraviolet is based on the Aeon Flux movie.

ULTRAVIOLET WAS MADE FIRST!

The Aeon Flux posters are identical to Ultraviolet's concept art. So, the makers of the Aeon Flux movie changed the Aeon Flux cartoon by turning it into Ultraviolet - unknowingly or knowingly, I have no idea.

This movie is obviously just a rip off of Aeon Flux.

The problem is that everyone probably had the same opinion about Serenity. Some chick given super powers by the government who goes all rebelious.

Then again I'm going to act just like them and avoid this movie like the plague. I'm tired of all these "hot girl in skimpy outfit" action movies. Get some plot people.

The House on Turk Street.

She was also Joan in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Ark, no powers in that one either...unless you count talking to God a power??

She was in Million Dollar Hotel too, wasn't she? I kinda' liked that movie, although I've heard most people didn't. But it's definately not like the 'other' movies she's been in. But whoever told her she could sing should be deemed a witch and burned, cause they ain't my witch.

I kinda like her CD. A bit like Tori Amos... with a head trauma. And a lot of drugs.

I for one loved Fifth Element, and I really liked her in it. I was hoping they would cast her as BloodRayne in the upcoming movie, but I suppose she was doing too many action chick films. It's a shame they got the Terminator chick for it, she just doesn't look right. Milla would have been perfect for it. Maybe she was tired of having red hair.

Okay, so I went and saw this movie last night. I'm a fan of the director's first movie, and think Milla is good in the right role, and I'm a sucker for scifi action.

Oh. My. God. Did. That. SUCK!

It has some pretty cool ideas that I handn't really seen in a movie before, mostly to do with the use of extra-dimensional pockets for storage, and a nifty little device that let Milla shift her gravity to walks on walls and such. There was also a bit of expansion on the gun-fu fighting style used in Equalibrium that was kinda cool (guns with sword blades protruding from the bottom of the handle).

And that was about all it had going for it. Bad script, horrible, horrible dialog, and lousy paceing. Some of the effects were sub-videogame level as well.

So, if there was anyone even thinking of checking this one out, even on DVD, I'd reccomend you skip it.

At least I didn't have to pay to see it.

That's too bad, 'cause Equilbrium was kinda cool.
But thanks for the warning.

On the other hand, I just saw the Daredevil directors cut, and found it to be really good (I HATED the theatrical cut).

Another plug for the UK series from me (I too have the box-set). No resemblence whatsoever to the movie trailers (yes, they both feature vampires, but that's a word that's never even used in the series).

Dark, intense, atmospheric thriller, and well worth checking out.
