I'd almost forgot about this show, but the other day I heard the disco song that they based the theme on and it all came back to me.

Now, it's kind of a good thing that it didn't run on for too long, 'cause then Gina wouldn't have been able to do Firefly, so I'm grateful for that.

But also... when you think about it, that show was like just about flawless. I mean, look at the setup:

Three sexy, scantily-clad, sci-fi chicks with guns kicking the crap out of things. Not one. Not two. But three, count 'em, three sexy ladies with guns kicking the crap of stuff. In the future. (okay, when reading that, it might come off as sarcastic, and I guess it is. But seriously, now. I don't get out much, and especially during the time when that show was on the air, well... I wasn't getting much action. How could I NOT watch this show religiously???)

You have your comedy, you have your action, special effects, and most importantly you have people jumping away from explosions.

I honestly believe that alot of big-time execs were dumbfounded when Cleopatra ended. Seriously. Now, it didn't have the brilliantly-crafted writing, emotional story arcs, and gripping acting of Firefly (not to mention an adorable and spunky mechanic to remind everyone that they're all family :), but not everything has to. Sometimes you need your junk food, after all. Also, Gina Torres. rrowr

Anyways, am I the only 'coat around here that can still sing the lyrics to the theme song?

*sigh* I still know the lyrics. That show was so bad it was slightly good.

"Dear Diary, Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Today we were kidnapped by hill folk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever."

I always crack up when I hear it. Can't keep a straight face....

Yeah, I liked this show, too. In fact, I recently got the boxset. Always figured the show was written by two guys; the shy one who was well-versed in SF lore and had some really great ideas, and the bold one who showed up at 11, gave the first one a noogie, wrote for an hour about how the heroines would go undercover at the stripclub, and then take the rest of the day off to go to the stripclub.

Yeah, I remember the theme song, too. I liked the show at first, but thought it got kinda redundant after a while. However, I LOVED Jack of All Trades, starring Brisco's Bruce Campbell, which followed it.

Wow...just heard the original 2525 on the radio...great timing!

Ahh yes... Jack of All Trades was a classic, as are all things containing Bruce Campbell ;p

I don't remember too much of that show, but one thing that cracks me up to this day:

Jack has been captured, and villain goes to remove his mask: and there is yet another mask under that one ;p Puts a smile on my face every time I think of that.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Yep, used to watch both of them, first Cleopatra 2525 followed by Bruce in Jack of All Trades. I loved JoAT, of course I am a sucker for anything w/ Bruce Campbell in it.

Of course I liked Cleopatra 2525 for Victoria Pratt:

I too loved Jack of All Trades!!!
And in the words of Bruce Campbell, Cleo 2525 was "porn for twelve year olds."

Not that that's a bad thing....

Thanks Chris!

The theme song was NOT based on any Disco song...it was based on Zager & Evan's cult pop hit from circa 1967 called In The Year 2525.

Here's a question: Did Gina look better in Cleo or the BDM?

I say BDM Chrisisall

BDM by a landslide! She looked somewhat ridiculous in Cleo...

Cisall, to this day I am mystified and stymied as to how it is that you didn't buy the Cleo boxset the day it came out.

Hey Chrisall:

Do you know you can see most but not all the episodes of Cleopatra 2525 at 'fancast.com'

They have several series you can watch for free.
Scifi, Westerns, Sitcoms.

They even have some Lost in Space episodes that will last until the end of May.

After years of silence to hear Dr. Smith say "Oh the pain! The Pain!", once again.

When I discovered Cleopatra 2525 on fancast.com I watched all the episodes they had. Of course they were not in proper sequence. Had to look the sequence up after I figured out that certain episodes didn't fit the time line of events.

I thought it was fitting to add Gina Torres to my sig. So I figured I'd include the fact she can be seen in Cleopatra 2525 as well as Firefly.

Fancast has its flaws, but as I said on another post, "It is for free." So you can not beat the price.

I am watching "Picket Fences" episodes now. It was one of favorites. I felt it went off the air to soon. The plot lines pushed the envelope on just about every subject. Good to see them again.

I love campy shows like Cleopatra 2525 and Lost In Space.

They make me laugh even in the hardest of times.

I'm laughing right now thinking about Dr. Smith.

To this day I still have serious love for this show. Other than Gina Torres and Victoria Pratt, I don't know why.

And that song! I don't think I will ever forget it. Props to Miss Gina for her vocals!

In the year 2525
Three women with the will to survive
Fighting for a brand new day
Nothing is going to get in their way

And in the year 2525
Three women keep hope alive
Joing forces to reclaim the Earth
Looking ahead to humankind's rebirth

That's the best most accurate description of the show I've ever read.
