Mine is the Lost in Space Robot. Funny and deadly, he had it all (except he couldn'r run really fast...).
Interestingly, the re-designed LIS Robot for the movie version would be my 2nd choice.

"Destroy Robinson family!" always sends chills up my spine

Other than him, my 3 fave roboty things are:

Originally, (when I was younger) it was probably a tough choice between R2D2 or one of those hovering robots from Disney's Black Hole (I only have vague memories of them now though, it all seems so long ago...)

Now I'd have to say R2D2, though I also liked Kolob from an old TV series called "Children of the Dog Star" though he was more of a space probe....(does anyone else remember him?)

- Shiny. Let's be bad guys.

GLOBLABSURDITY

I'm mostly partial to those robots from the Mystery Science Theatre. Just because they make me laugh--so I'll also have to go with Marvin from Douglas Adams' Hitchiker's Guide novels & movie--for the same reason.
When I was a kid--I loved Lost in Space too, Chrisisall. Sometimes (rarely) I'll start slinging my arms around & shout "danger,danger"--& my husband will laugh--but the kids just look at me like their mom has truly lost her mind. I get the same look from them when I tell them "out damn spots, out I say!"--as we are leaving to go out somewhere.Ha!
Cheers.

I became very fond of Naomi Armitage from Armitage III. The scene where she rings the church bell for her dead friend still makes me teary.

Other than that, it would have to be Bender!

Fry: Why do robots need to drink alcohol?
Bender: (slurring) I don't need to drink! I can quit any time I wanna!

Please do not turn this into spoilerama.

I am only 7 episodes into the second season of Battlestar Gallatica (I do not have the cable)but my favorite "robot" if an evolved Cylon counts, would be whichever one is the best hidden ultimate betrayer on that show. I already have several suspects - and I so want to be surprised.

Nobody's mentioned Robby the Robot yet?! My absolute favorite! Originally in Forbidden Planet, he 'guest starred' in a whole bunch of things, including a great episode of Arc II.

After that, who can forget Huey/Luey/Duey from Silent Running? Loved the little guys!

I am assuming this does not include "mecha", right?

Oh, and I actually liked AI -- so the kid, his teddy bear and the gigolo robot are runners up for me.

I love my captain

HK-47 for the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He is a sarcastic asassin droid whose favorite way to describe humans is the word "meatbag".

R2D2 (more SW) cause I'm convinced that those fart noises he makes are swears or similar rude comments. He's a smarta**.

Even though it's not really one of my favorites, this is annoying me. What did they call that wierd little robot thing on Power Rangers?

Also, on a related subject, go here http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/tests/giantrobot/ for a fun little test to see which colossal death robot you would be. The title is a bit missleading since Bender is one of the possibilities.
Here's my result:
Scowling wilfully towards Autobot City, you're Megatron!
Look in a mirror and feel the evil. Then eat the mirror. You eat mirrors for breakfast. You are a badass death robot. You busted on Optimus Prime. You. Are. Megatron. Go outside and burn some animals, because you're worth it.

Op: You're fighting a war you've already lost.

The first Power Rangers robot was Alpha 5. I have no clue where Alpha's 1 through 4 might be. Nor do I particularly care.

I don't really have a favourite, being such a huge Transfan (seriously; Transformers is about as big to me as Firefly). It tends to be whatever TF I last laid eyes on.

If we're discounting mecha, then my vote goes for the ultimate machine, the king of droids, and one of the greatest characters ever devised by human mind:

Bishop "Yeah man, right. Bishop should go. Good idea!!"

Sonny "I DID NOT MURDER HIM!"

These are good, but the best EVER is...

Roy Batty: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die." (This was Ad-Libbed by Hauer, how cool is that for an actor?)

'Ted' from Btvs was a pretty scary robot. Excellent villain too.

What about Johnny 5, from the 'Short circuit' movies? Especially when he turned evil!

Sonny from 'I robot'? Our very own Alan Tudyk!

I liked 'April' from Btvs. She was a tragic character. Loved it when she threw Spike through the window.

Um.. What about Robocop? Great character! The first movie was excellent.

There are the Cybermen from Doctor Who, and I can't forget the Daleks. Uh.. Can the Daleks be classed as robots? (The updated versions are kinda robotic.) Every kid and adult in the U.K hid behind the sofa whenever they came on screen. They're both classic!

I'd say HK-47 (meatbags, heheh, "shall I kill something for you, master?")

And most definitely Optimus Prime. Go Transformers.

And, now that I think about it, general Grievous was kind of a badass. I mean, FOUR LIGHTSABERS!?!?!?

And, if anyone out there is familiar with Megatokyo ( www.megatokyo.com, check it out) I'd put Ping in there too. "it has a secret program of ultimate destruction. All Sonys do."

1) R2-D2 (gotta share the astromech love)

2) The T-800 Terminator (Arnie's a doink, but still...he'll be back!)

3) Data (androids are just interesting to watch, especially ones portrayed by Brent Spiner)

4) Rommie (Andromeda is one of the weakest Roddenberry shows but.....look at her! She could give a toaster a hard-on)

5) Major Katsuragi from Ghost in the Shell (would have had her higher, but her status is still unclear....android or cybord?)

FWIW, S.A.C.'s version of Kusanagi's described as a cyborg, even though she has no organic parts left. The only thing "real" is her Ghost, which is probably why she's so dismissive of Turing-capable machines (if the Tachikomas are developing Ghosts, then there'll be nothing that makes her "human").

Oh, it has to be *useful*! Can't go past Kryten from Red Dwarf - thanks to his groinal socket.

Kryten comes into Lister's room, plugs a vacuum cleaner hose into his groin, and starts to vacuum.......

LISTER: I didn't know you could do that!
KRYTEN: Oh yes, I can plug a number of add-ons into my groinal socket, allowing me to perform virtually any household task imaginable.
LISTER: Like what?
KRYTEN: Oh, you name it: buzz saw, power drill, hedge trimmer ... even an egg whisk.
LISTER: What, so you just, like, stick the egg whisk attachment on the end and you can, like, whip up a Spanish omelette?
KRYTEN: I certainly can, sir, but it's amazing how few people are prepared to eat them.

Cheers,
Johnboy
