I dunno, but I adored the soundtrack for the '86 Transformers movie, although I can't remember if the theme music played in that.

The '85 movie had a redone (i.e., longer) version of the theme, performed by Lion.

Including a Decepticon Police car (?!?), a tank that may or may not be Megatron, Megatron's delivery truck (not a character), a camera helicopter (probably not a character, though it was rumoured earlier that Soundwave would be a copter), a couple of Ospreys (don't know what's up with them), a. . . thing that calls itself Bonecrusher, and a yellow Camaro that is said to be Bumblebee (if they don't end up renaming him to Hot Shot). Further down, there's some blown-up Humvees and that Osprey again.

(Cool-ly, some of these shots may be from White Sands New Mexico, just a stone's throw from Area 51 of UFO fame --if anyone would know how to do shape-shifting alien robots. . .)

Bonecrusher is a TF name: he was a Constructicon (one of the green guys that formed Devastator) in G1. Soundwave was the cool-voiced tape-deck character ("Soundwave superior. Constructicons inferior."). G1 Bumblebee was the yellow Beetle, but Volkswagon refused to be involved, because of their policy against "war" toys, so he had to be redesigned.

Personally, I kinda prefer the upcoming Classics Bumblebee:

(Yes, these are pictures, this is the only way I can bypass Geocities' no-image-link policy.)

That said however, that Camaro is too hot to not be a TF. That toy will eventually be my Tigertrack. Or Hot Shot. (Yes, I rename my toys. It's the only way to avoid having seven or eight versions of the same character these days.)

About the movie: I'm cautiously optimistic.

I've been impressed by Rogers, Orci, and Roberto (the writers), but Michael Bay is. . . not what I'd choose.

I'm having nightmares now of fight sequences being obscured by the shakeycam, extreeeeeeeeeeeme close-ups, and split-second cuts.

*Optimus and Megatron face off*

*flash*whoosh*crunch*whoosh*whoosh*crunch*flash*whoosh*flash*blur*flash*

*Megatron laughs as Optimus pulls himself to his feet*

*flash*blur*wobble*blinding flash*crash*explosion*

*Optimus dusts himself off, Starscream swoops in and recovers what might be Megatron's head*

Optimus Prime if going to be a fraking Fire truck. I am annoyed (like I'm not going to see it any way.) Bumblebee will not be a VW Beetle or "bug" but a fast and furious race car and Starscream will be a police car. Why? Grr Arg!!!!

Actually, TPTB have pretty much confirmed that Optimus will be a semi (not that a fire truck is unprecedented, what with RiD's Tokyo City fire truck and Cybertron's fire truck/semi hybrid).

And current rumours identify the Decepticop as Brawl (a former G1 Combaticon who turned into a tank). Starscream will likely still be an aircraft (as will Thundercracker and Skywarp, if they turn up), possibly even a Raptor JSF (which evokes his Energon body).

And I already explained about VW. They don't want to be identified with war toys (given their past).

(And if that doesn't float your giant shape-changing boat, there's always the Classics toyline, coming out this fall.)
