You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I know, I know, it's been done, but I wanted to do it again since access to the archives in General is still all messed up. And it should be here anyway.
Here's my top five:
Number 5

Number 4

Number 3

Number 2

Number 1

(I dearly love whoever did that photoshop...)

As for actresses being talked about which I think should absolutely not have the role (because I can)
Lindsay Lohan (I actually think she's an okay actress, but not a badass)
Katherine McPhee (If a American Idol is cast I'm just not seeing the movie)
Sarah Michelle Gellar (She's 5'2")
Angelina Jolie (I like her well enough, I just can't see it.)
Jennifer Garner (I don't think she has the right look.)

So, everyone else's top and bottom picks?

Oh yes, and fun fact; Wonder Woman's sister Nubia has some very dark skin. If they're actually sisters an argument could be made that Wonder Woman should also be dark skinned but originally wasn't. Why? Well, let's not go into the fact that basically all super heroes have light skin, with very very rare exceptions...

Remember the Nathan Fillion facts thread a few months ago? I do believe Nathan will be starring as WW.

No really, I love the idea of Gina playing her.She would be perfect. And Morena would be a good choice too. There was some talk about an actress from Bollywood playing her & she was soooo beautiful.Don't know if she can act though.

I love the Gina as WW pic, although the body looks kinda fake.Y'know I still have all my WW comics. I think she helped inspire my becoming a pagan. All that Goddess mythology .

WHITEFALL

I just dont know what to think on the issue of WW's look. I know Joss was pro-original costumes when he did astonishing X-men, but I just cannot see him making a movie about a woman who embraces a different culture for the sake of her people, and then dons a bathing suit to walk around in. Joss does embrace the sexy often times, but... well this is why I'm so curious, I'm interested to see what he'll do.

As for who should play it, I'm afraid I've never seen morena in anything else, so i'm not sure how she'd fare. But I gotta admit, Gina Torres, best idea. Seriously. To hell with the 50's writers who wouldnt have been able to sell a black woman superhero, this is now and that was then, and for all the nostalgia value, I don't think it's worth requiring a white woman. But unfortunately the studio will probably require that the star be badass, white, female (rules out Nathan), and end up with black hair for the film. They can't afford to lose the people who'll go see it for its nostalgia.

As for lows? Ugh, any well known actress that I've seen in the news or whatever.... I really hope not. None of that lindsey lohan, preferably not Garner, please no Jessica Alba (no offence meant to DA fans, she's just played too many frail helpless damsels).

My best hope, really, is for Joss to go for a virtual unknown who vaguely looks the part (to make the marketers happy) and can absolutely act her tail off, to make us and Joss happy.

*shudder* I saw that photoshop of Nathan. Eurgh.
And I looked up the actress that was being talked about, the "bollywood" actress, and she was indeed beautiful, but she didn't look like Wonder Woman to me. She wouldn't be a bad choice, but I don't think she'd be the right choice. She looked too soft and girly.
Yeah, the body looks weird because it's photoshop. But still...
Wonder Woman was my hero when I was little, just because she was a Goddess-worshipping super-powered woman. I thought that was the coolest thing ever! (I still do, despite how often she gets tied up)
Jessica Alba and Shanon Elizabeth have both been talked about, but they also look a little too... girly to me. The idea doesn't make me cringe, but it doesn't make me jump for joy either.

Halle Berry didn't exactly have that whole "shiong-tsan sha-sho" thing like Gina!

Or the acting talent, or the screen presence, or the willingness to not have it be a "star vehicle."

To wit, she (and her people) probably wouldn't be telling Joss what to write, as Halle Berry's handlers were apparently doing to John Rogers.

See, I thought cat woman was black, it was catwoman (from batman) who was white, and this was a different cat woman from a different comic. But I'm not a huge comic fan, really, so I'm probably wrong about that.
And most people seemed more upset by the story and/or attitude of the character than her skin color. But that's just from what I saw.

I didn't think you were but the movie is about Wonder Woman, not her sister. I don't know if William Moulton Marston was a bigot but that's not the issue and it doesn't change the image fans have of his creation, in either case. The argument that she should be black because her sister was doesn't hold water - one might as well claim the opposite.

Not really considering that dark skin is dominant. Same with dark eyes; it just comes out in the genes. I should know; everyone in my family has light skin, hair and eyes except my half-brother, because his father had very dark eyes and hair. So the opposite could not be argued if you're going to be logical about it. Sorry.
Also being logical about it, an "Amazon" would be from the Amazon area. Duh. And those who live by the Amazon tend to have what? Dark skin, that's right. Let's use our brains instead of our knee-jerk and/or nostalgia. I love Wonder Woman growning up and yet I have no objection to her being black, even if most of my picks are white.
If you don't think Gina has the chops to do it, that's fine, but don't discount her simply because of her skin.

WW wasn't conceived in the usual way. She was sculpted out of clay and given life by the (Greek) gods. Genes don't play into it.

"The Amazon area?" If you're thinking of the Amazon region in South America, you're way off. That name comes from the Portuguese, who thought they had discovered the mythological (is-)land figuring in the legends of the ancient Greeks. The Greek people have been composed of various ethnicities through the ages but none of them were black. In fact, the hellenistic Greeks were apparently more caucasian than modern ones. For someone who grew up with the character, you don't seem to know much about her origin, since you have the most common misconception about her. Which doesn't invalidate your opinion but you can drop the "I'll-explain-this-to-you-dear-child" routine.

Well, apologies, obviously my conception of where the Amazon got its name was incorrect. Also the origin myth was likely way, way before my time, considering she was first seen in 1941, and it was not rehashed over and over the way Batman and Superman have been. I never saw it.
Oddly enough, the image of her on wikipedia, which claims to be the cover art for #3, shows her with brownish hair, kind of fading to black. That's the only time I've seen her portrayed with lighter hair. Interesting.

Might be a lighting effect, but it still seems strange.

Damn she's beautiful.
PR- I saw a history channel show where they actually proved that the Amazons existed. But they were from eastern Europe, with blonde hair & blue eyes.A modern ancestor was found in Mongolia & a dna test ( from a corpse believed to be one of the warrior women )confirmed the lineage. If they were really the Amazons or just an obscure tribe of female warriors Goddess only knows.Cool though.

I still love WW & can't wait to see what Joss does for her.

I think some people have seen so much Star Trek they can't see anything else. I have known him a long time and once he gets an opinion you can't bend him. So I never press any issue with him.

And Lopes will never get the part. So I can't really defend something that will never be proven. I just get gut feelings sometimes. You see Phoenrose agrees with you. I'm out numbered.

I actually got the idea of her a doing a more dramatic role while watching her in "Wedding Planner". How romantic can you get. But I saw something in her. I can never put these things in words.

Its like Bill Murray. I saw him in several comedy roles and then he did "The Razor's Edge", and surprized me with a great performance. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.

Even before there was thought of a WW movie there was one woman who everytime I saw her thought (she'd make a good WW) Terry Farrel from Deep Space Nine. I once placed her picture next to Linda Carter's and wow, they could have been sisters. Course she's far too old now, and I doubt she'd have the stamina to do the work but she has proven she can be badass, remember she took on Worf, and won him.

And just Google her to see her in that red Wedding dress. Nearly there already. Too bad she's not even considered in the running. This movie came too late.

And as much as I love them both I can't see either Morena or Gina in the roll. Sorry.

Terry Farrell:

Quite gorgeous.
She does bear a resemblance to Linda Carter, though I must reiterate that I don't think that makes or breaks anything; I don't think Linda Carter is the end-all be-all of Wonder Woman at all, in fact. She's beautiful and filled out the costume well, but I think there should be more to it. Like looking like an Amazon who can kick your ass and look good doing it.

Thus my reasoning for Farrel, she's already proven she can be a badass, anyone who watched the show saw the epi's where she interacted with the Klingons. In Blood Oath she helped Kor, Koloth and Kang (ST:TOS Klingons) fulfill a blood oath to kill an albino Klingon, only she and Kor survived. Barely.

When she married Worf she had a catfight with Martoks wife, and finally got the female Klingons respect. Not to mention the fights between the Jem Hadarr. God I'm such a Geek knowing this stuff.

All I'm saying is that out of all the candidates that are out there, she can hold her own with them. Plus she's tall, statuesque, has the Amazonian look, and she is damn pretty.

You must have the hickups, it's T R A V E L E R.
Or maybe Tristan is also sticking to his guns too.

I'd like to keep her warm.
Not sure if this better. I think the first picture I posted is the best.
