There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

For anyone who likes Robert A. Heinlein or Spider Robinson, or both, I can recommend Variable Star, which Spider completed from notes and an outline found in the Heinlein archives. I am positive Spider contributed quite a bit to the plot since his afterword says there were just seven pages of notes, and no ending specified by Heinlein.

Here's my review - http://templetongate.net/variable-star.htm

You've mentioned two of my fave authors ever in just your subject line. I'm in. Where do I sign up?

Heinlein's my all-time favorite, and I like Spider a lot too, although if it had been up to me I would have asked John Varley to complete it.

As for signing up, you could use the links to amazon or the Science Fiction Book Club on my page, or use Haken's link to amazon on the mainpage here. Or check B&N or Borders or pester your library into getting it for you. It's worth it.

When I first read the subject line, I thought you meant that Spider Robinson had finished reading a Heinlein novel... which would be pretty hilarious news.

Anyway, this sounds awesome. Thanks for the heads-up!

Sorry to disagree but I personally think Heinlein is dull and his themes/politics simplistic and jingoistic. I think Spider Robinson is kinda fun and his themes/politics usually the opposite of Heinlein's, though also often naive. I've always found it odd that SR is such a RAH fan. (In fact, the best thing I ever read concerning Heinlein was Spider's fannish essay "Rah Rah RAH." I started to think I may have misjudged him, until I tried to read him again.)

Good luck to those who enjoy this but I wouldn't read it, even if I was given it. Now if you could tell me when we're next likely to see Miles Vorkosigan again...

Hell, I don't agree with Heinlein's politics at least 75% of the time, and yet I love his characters and the stories he puts them in. This new book reads very much like what I would have expected from RAH except for the strong language, but I guess that means you wouldn't like it either. To each his own.
