Did you enjoy?

The main impression I had was the allusion to CSI was a bit unfortunate - it seemed to have adopted a lot of CSI Miami's bad habits (sweeping ariel shots of Cardiff, catalogue shot posing from the lead.

Whatever, I liked it, for all its miss beats, even after watching the second ep. with my mum in the room (how long has it been since you blushed so hard your ears went pink?)

But i think its going to be one of those that divides the audience,

what do y'all think?

Episode 1 was ok, but cool/unique moments were pretty thin on the ground.

Episode 2...all I can say is that particular 'concept' is so consistently lame it shouldn't even be considered as a possibility for a season 5 filler ep.

yes, It is a lame concept really isn't it (not to mention the fact that it gives the lead - previously seen tough guy posing on a big white building - his first real fight/action sequence against a fifteen year old girl.

I think what its problem is is some of the writers are still writing for Dr Who, which is a kiddies series really, in terms of concept and story, and when it came to the post water shed possibilities of sex and strong language they just got excitable as to choice.

But i've got high hope that its going to find its feet and a more grown up approach to story telling and turn out to be bloody good.

Or is that just wishful thinkin cause Cpt. Jack's damn hot?

Pretty good... ep 1 the better. Flawed, but could develop nicely.

Select to view spoiler:

The piles of powdered remains of the victims in ep 2 were a bit too neat if you ask me!

"I'm so 'avin' you!"
"Taxi!"

Really enjoyed this. Lots of great stuff in it. That, and i didn't expect the ending in episode 1. Also the "pop" effect in episode 2 was funny. Can't wait for next week

Also: did anyone get the "kind of" firefly refrence in Episode 2? Went along the lines of "nobody dies alone" i think

That and doesn't Torchwood 4 disappearing sound like a certain Babylon station

so much pop culture refrencing, so little time

Can't wait for christmas and easter though. So much good Who!!!

That's how I'd sum it up. The 'adult themes' were not dealt with in a particularly adult manner and they didn't really add anything to the episodes anyway. You have to wonder why they thought doing a (supposedly) grown-up Who was a good idea when a sizeable portion of its audience is not grown-up! It's like punishing that part of the audience because they're young... Having said that, I'm sure plenty of them will go ahead and watch it anyway.

but reading through the lists of episode and writers and what is coming up (teasers in the article in SFX) it looks so interesting - especially the Noel Clark penned ep - after seeing Kidulthood, he can do grown up issues in a fresh way.

I'm staying tuned.

RELFEXIVE

I've got to say I really liked it. Not the super-strongest of starting episodes but not every show gets those. But a lot of promise, and a lot of interesting ideas bubbling under. Also, a lot of links to Doctor Who; some obvious, some, ah, underhanded.

Plus, swearing and other rude words in Welsh accents, what's not to love?

My only question: how do they get to those "posing points" high up on buildings? It's all very dramatic, like Batman and that, but how?

"My God - you're like a trained ape. Without the training."
"Come a day there won't be room for naughty men like us to slip about at all..."
"SUMMER!!"

I don't get this. Torchwood is a Dr. Who spinoff with Captain Jack?

yep, the premise is that Torchwood was set up by Queen Vicky all those years ago (remember the werewolf ep?) to find and hoard alien technology to defend against aliens.

Captain Jack (though its a slow reveal on the how and why) is heading up the Cardiff branch.

It mean to be a more adult, post watershed show, but sadly so far that only means they've wedged in a load of sex and swearing (though the swearing in welsh accents is funny) but i've hopes for the future.

I didn't read those, mainly because I assumed they'd be spoilerific.

Personally, I really enjoyed it. It was lightly humourous, bit of action, reasonable plotlines. I mean - it's no Firefly, but it was good fun for a Sunday night's entertainment.

Oh, and FWIW (for those that don't already know) Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who.

PURPLEBELLY

I thought the joke Matrix reference was risky too. Ill-fitting leather and enough water to ruin the coiffure looks dangerously like no-one cares.

Someone in Costume should speak up. They must know that the Hero in the Big Coat needs broad shoulders and narrow hips - not the other way round. John Barrowman is making a decent attempt at the difficult task of turning a guest role into a leading man, tho.

Someone in Fight Arrangement should speak up. They must know that if you haven't got the budget, you shouldn't even try.

Like they say, the first six episodes are a pilot. Lots of time to decide.

on the contrary, they just tease enough to make you want to see them.

I did know that, the anagram thing, its what they labelled the early scripts and stuff to throw would be leaks off the scent or somthing.

John barrowman looked good in the costume - he looks everyman and very attractive - theres this tendency to make the enitrie cast of everything super gorgeous, and i think this cast, though very attractive, looks normal enough, i thought he did a good job - the question i would ask about the costume is why is he in millitary stuff? Wasn't his appreaence in the blizt part of a scam of his - i thought he was a traveller like the doctor and it was just a disguise, so why have they put him in it now?

But yes, it was fun, and entertaining, and it does look like they're going to get some great writers in.
