O.o There is no thread for Torchwood on this site yet.

The new spin off to Doctor Who started last Sunday at 9pm on BBC Three, and is repeated on BBC2 every Wednesday.

Having watched episodes one and two,I have to say that it is a really cool show! I look forward to seeing the rest of the first season. The tone is much darker than Who and more adult. The writing is funny, action packed and John Barrowman (Captain Jack) has some great lines. The man has screen presence too.

Are there any Woodies out there?

Sure rub it in, you all get real t.v. and we here across the pond get shafted. I have no opinion of Torchwood because I haven't seen it and I likely won't get to unless SciFi picks it up...argh!!

I choose to rise instead of fall- U2

Saw the first two episodes on Wednesday - bloody brilliant! I like that fact that it's darker in tone than Dr Who (not that I got anything against the good Doctor, of course). Looking to be a blinding series.

Woodies?????

From what we have seen so far it looks very promising. If the rest of the series is as good as the first two then the BBC will have another hit on their hands.
Judging by the credits, the BBC has made this in partnership with a Canadian network so it probably wont be to long before it crosses the Atlantic.

Ooh, really? Do you recall which one? I'm assuming it's the CBC, our government-funded national channel (similar to the BBC, I think?). I believe they were involved in some way with Doctor Who, of which they started showing the second season a few weeks ago. It would be nice if it was SPACE though (our version of SciFi channel), I think it would get better exposure. And there'd be no chance of it being pre-empted by hockey.

To be perfectly honest I am not too sure about this show yet.

There are some good things but it certainly aint no Firefly. I was the same with BSG when it first came around though so maybe it will grow on me.

No spoilers in this post.. Just excitement..

The third episode rocked! If this is the weekly standard of the series, sign me up now.

It was dark, gritty and tense stuff, and stayed true to its mission statement. I hate to say it, but I love this show more than Who.

It was great to see certain things happen (with the characters) so early in its run.

End of excited rant.

This series is going from strength to strength!

Select to view spoiler:

The cyberwoman storyline seemed a little cheesy when I first saw the promo, but it turned out really well. It was pure sci-fi horror. Lots of blood, danger, emotion and action!

I love how each actor is getting their own character arc early on this series.

There is a definite Buffy/Angel vibe to the series. Russel T Davies has said in interview that his family love both shows, and it shows through the ensemble acting on screen.

The adult nature of the show is so refreshing!

I loved the battle with the pterodactyl and the cyber woman. It was a great concept piece that looked very realistic on screen.

First 2 episodes, not bad.

Third one. Very good.

Cyberwoman. Crashed and burned. The old doc pawing Robochick was a bit creepy. But what I objected to was that if we are to have any defence against alien hordes, our Last Best Hope should not be a whiney snivelling prat.

Pull yourself together man!

I'm a huge Doctor Who fan (look at my username for proof) but Torchwood is only okay, sometimes hitting good.

It is definitely trying to hit Buffy/Angel heights but it just does not have the budgets and talent available to it that those two shows had. The two central characters of Jack and Gwen are interesting but the others are basically cyphers. Ianto switches from being the "gets it done" man to whimpering crying wet blanket as suits the plot. The scientist (whose name I can't even remember) feels poorly realised and acted and the other guy jumped from rapist to rape avenger without any attempt at explaining this character shift.

It's not bad; quite enjoyable really and there's precious few UK sci-fi shows but I think the mainstream audience won't stick with it.

I thought exactly the same.

I love Torchwood, OK so It's not the best sci-fi ever (Who, Trek and FireFly are miles above it), It's still great.

Character development is great, all the plots are well-written, too. (The "ghost machine" one I my favourite so far). It's definitely the best new thing on TV at the moment.
